Because he had already responded, and because he was conversing with another poster, I seriously don’t think he had you on ignore or used multitasking as a cop out.
That said, I guess I’m not so great a peace broker. That makes me sad but it is what it is.
Jacob, part of staying out of the fray is also not laughing at someone else’s expense (7:54 p.m.) You’re either only going to comment on baseball or you’re going to chime in when someone’s being degraded. It is obviously your choice, but I think if you are going to remove yourself from the drama you need an entirely clean break.

The hurricane has already been downgraded and by dawn it could be nothing more then a tropical storm. Unless you live near water there is nothing to worry about. People are preparing like this is Katrina part 2.

Betsy, I’ve been watching the coverage on the weather channel only to try to get a sense of when they expect it to hit here. It’s all pretty vague expect for the fact that it will hit and I keep hearing them say not to be lulled into a false sense of security because it is classified as a category 1. I guess she is a very expansive sucker!

triple, read what I just wrote to Betsy. Plus they’ve already declared a federal state of emergency in all of the states that are going to get hit. I think the worry is that it is such an enormous storm in width that it isn’t just going to do a fly by!
Anyway, I am absolutely not worried, just curious to know when the fun is going to start. I actually go in the other direction and think these things are exciting. Of course if it was a category 5 I don’t think I’d be very excited…

Anyway, this will be my last word on what is going on because it is apparently a lot bigger than I (am big). And I’m being totally sincere when I say this, and it coming from my own perspective so feel free to factor that in. I had a situation go on here for a little while when I was pretty new at lohud, where two male posters decided to make me the butt of their jokes and so played team tag and used me for their pingpong ball. I find that kind of behavior so reprehensible because it is bullying in its most virulent form. I have never asked anyone here to go along with me if I am at odds with another poster; I feel I have the ability to stand up for myself, and I am willing to own my opinions. When I see posters gang up on another poster it really bothers me to distraction. I think it’s mean and I think it’s juvenile. WCSF is thrilled to have you go along on his distorted ride. He of course feels enhanced by any cheap agreement he can get with his whacked out and nasty nasty behavior. So he’s struts like the king while you are thrust into the role of court jester. Not a real even exchange.
So you asking Jacob to “stay the course” is tantamount to asking him to continue to gang up on Tar and/or anyone else you don’t like. What I will say for Tar is that he is out there swinging by himself and does not have a Greek chorus, nor does he solicit one.

Good luck to all of u up north. I live in eastern nc, and this storm has produced more rain than any category one I can remember. It is not the worst we have seen, but it has lingered way too long because of its size. Be prepared for flooding. Good luck.

Yes we sure can, Having been through hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes, I can say that the human death, pain and tragedy is hard to come to grips with. Nine people have lost their lives and more than a million people are without power and there are thousands of the elderly and infirm that are in harms way. It’s a really serious storm and I share with you best wishes for everyone to take care.
There are four tornado warnings that were just issued including Tom’s River, NJ and a watch for NYC.

tomingeorgia, thankfully I’m far enough away from the ocean that I don’t have to worry and with our hurricane barrier I’m protected from overflow of the river in downtown Prov. We have a lake not too far from us that will definitely overflow but it would take a lot for it to reach me. I live on a hill, close to the top, so I’m very fortunate when it comes to flooding. Knock on wood.
I feel like WCYF is sincerely concerned with the loss of human life and thinks it is not something to laugh about.

Have you seen a movie made by HBO called “Taking Chance”? It starts Kevin Bacon who plays a military escort taking the body of a dead soldier home. It takes you along on their journey, step-by-step. It was truly one of the saddest, most uplifting, inspiring, and touching movies that I have ever seen. Ever.
I strongly recommend it, but have some tissues ready.

I didn’t notice the intent of the highlight. I agree that overreacting to potential disasters that never come to fruition is frustrating. But this storm is different. The forecast track has been 100% correct and the storm’s path northward hugging the coast is a really dangerous one. I am all for being safe rather than sorry.
The national and state governments learned from past mistakes and they have been proactive and superb in staying ahead of this. You can imagine the outcry, justifiable, if they weren’t.

It’s recent…2008, I think? It’s based on a true story that occurred in 2004. I know it’s on DVD right now.
It’s very poignant and emotional. I’d imagine that it would be too much (right now) for an Iraq War veteran to watch, as well as for anyone who has seen combat during any era.
That being said, if you do decide to give it a whirl, maybe you could just watch it in snippets. When it gets to be too much, just turn it off and come back again when you’re ready.
Based on that movie, I have no doubt in the world whatsoever that it would be the hardest detail that any military service person could ever take on.

Yowza. Not three hours ago I was trying to get people to extend their hands to him, at his behest. All of a sudden the worm has turned.
Kind of scary when someone is that unpredictable and turns on you without provocation.

I took a ration of crap from the twisted fruitcake WCSF because I said I saw the hurricane as an adventure and he felt the need to tell everyone it meant I was happy about the misfortune of others. tomingeorgia you kind of went to his defense, not that you were agreeing that I was happy people died but that there was misfortune.
Does it make the twisted fruitcake a TOTAL HYPOCRITE about the entire matter and a transparent manipulator, as he has been deemed by others here, because when I mentioned a few days ago that I was in the path of the hurricane his response was:

Really? I think you should go back and read the last six months of posts and you will see how wrong you are. I hardly ever address her. I do take umbrage sometimes at how rude and snide she is to those who don’t buy into her mindless cheer leading and how she heaps insults on those who don’t meet “her” definition of what a fan is.
If Chad starts banning people, he should start with trisha.

Been too busy gettin’ ready for some stormin’ tomorrow and drinking beer. Not going backwards. Just saying let’s be nice. Bad enough the Red Sox are picking up a game today. No need jumping ugly with fellow fans.
Yes Mell it started with me telling Triple that I considered hurricanes an adventure and the loose cannon WCSF chiming in and telling the forum it meant that I didn’t care that people were dead and having problems from the hurricane – because I see it as an adventure.
I’m sure you’re getting the picture. Any opportunity he can interject ugliness and havoc into the forum – and he knows exactly what he’s doing – he does it.

Unknown, the crazy part is that for about five minutes, it looked like a few of the forumites who were at odds with each other were actually going to shake hands and become friends. But it fell apart from there. I tried to broker peace but when that didn’t work I somehow got thrown to the dogs .
Hey I tried. That won’t happen twice!
