Redeem last night’s used and unused tickets

Took a friend to the airport very early this morning, and there were so many roads closed because of flooding that it took two and a half hours for me to get back home. Of course, I really can’t complain about anything the rest of the year after missing last night’s game. Here is the press release with details on the exchange policy for last night’s tickets.

Recognizing (Tuesday’s) inclement weather conditions, the New York Yankees announced that they are rewarding all fans with tickets for (Tuesday’s) game against the Baltimore Orioles with a free ticket offer.

Fans may redeem their valid September 6, 2011, tickets — regardless of whether they were used to attend (Tuesday’s) game — for a free Grandstand Level or Terrace Level ticket at Yankee Stadium for a game for the 2012 season, subject to availability.

Alternatively, fans may choose to use (Tuesday’s) valid tickets as a coupon for 50 percent off the purchase price of a ticket in any other non-Suite seating location to a game for the 2012 season, subject to availability.

This free ticket and coupon offer is not valid for and cannot be redeemed for premium games (such as the Opening Day game, the Old-Timers’ Day game and all home games played against the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets).

Please note that the Yankees can only accept tickets with valid bar codes for the September 6, 2011, game.

Tickets can be redeemed or presented as a coupon at Yankee Stadium Ticket Windows only starting April 2, 2012.

    That’s cool re: tickets

It must have been miserable playing on that field last night.

It’s about time Chad returned. Child services will be all over him for leaving us in the care of strangers.

    GB,

Tex has 5 years left on his deal……Montero could play 1B at age 26

  10. upstate kate September 7th, 2011 at 10:21 am

I guess it has been awhile since I looked at the standings. I didn’t realize so many teams were eliminated already.

Blake, that would make it about right. That would put Sanchez around 23-24 years old.

  13. jankees27 September 7th, 2011 at 10:25 am

My guess is they put the B lineup out there today

    C Martin
    1B Swisher
    2B Nunez
    3B Rodriguez
    SS Pena
    LF Jones
    CF Granderson
    RF Dickerson
    DH Montero

maybe Chad’s not “officially” back yet:

bheyman99 Breaking news: I’m back at Yankee Stadium after 3 1/2 hours of sleep. Little tired but still planning to go nine if the weather cooperates.

  15. Erin September 7th, 2011 at 10:29 am

YankeesWeather Gates are expected to open on time at 11am. Updated information about the game will be posted when available.

Laird can play 1B right? And Golson for Grandy

If that team can win W/ AJ on the mound the Orioles should be sent down to the Mexican League.

    C) Cervelli
    1B) Posada
    2B) Pena
    3B) Laird
    SS) Nunez
    LF) Jones
    CF) Golson
    RF) Dickerson
    DH) Montero

DRob30 I totally get what Yogi was saying… This is like deja vu all over again. Back to Yankee Stadium!

  21. Yankee Trader September 7th, 2011 at 10:34 am

Am out of town and didn’t see the game last night. Just saw the highlights on ESPN-500 people were left at the Stadium!!!!

Time to put some ditance between us and the RS. RS have Wakefield and Miller going against Morrow and Romero, and then Lackey and Wieland and the infamous TBD against the Rays Wade, Hellickson and Shields.

If the Yankees are able to add Montero to the post-season roster while keeping Posada and Cervelli, are they more likely to go with 11 rather than 12 pitchers for the 1st round?

  22. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 10:35 am

hey now! this is beginning to look suspiciously like a little game we use to play around here a long time ago….

with beckett on the shelf this time around and bedard shelved (now THERE’S a shocker…) the socks end up going the next 9 games with only 1 lester start and the rest by lackey, wake, and down the list from there.

  26. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 10:40 am

For those that jumped ll ove Posada last night on the tagout at first, the umpires screwed it up. In order for Posada to be determined to be making an ayyempt to go to 2nd base, he would have had to cross the foul line first. He didn’t. He could have turned cartwheels and done backflips if he wanted to as long as he was in foul territory.

  27. Shame Spencer September 7th, 2011 at 10:41 am

Do we need to do our rain dance again? IIRC, it worked last time. ;)

  30. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 10:44 am

thanks gb, i was wondering about that but i accepted what kenny and flash were saying that any attempt is all it takes. posada was obviously making your point, actually running over and pointing to the spot in foul ground.

btw, the highlight of this morning’s game for me was po steaming around third base and scoring on cervellie’s double….good stuff jorge!

  31. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 10:45 am

an ***ayyempt*** to go to 2nd base,

    attempt

  32. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 10:49 am

Ys, players turn to the foul line all the time, or basically run a loop pattern, the only reason Posada was so far in foul territory to begin with was that the pitcher ran into him. Makes no difference now, but, the umpires were letting a few things go just to get the game over with. I guess they don’t get overtime pay.

  33. JM September 7th, 2011 at 10:49 am

Actually not raining and doesn’t look quite as menacing this morning on the Jersey Shore, about 40 miles south of the city….They will get this game in for sure and probably won’t have to play in a monsoon like last night.

The Red Sox are going to have to slug their way to victories with that bunch pitching. Here’s to hoping the greatest offense in history gets shut down a few more times.

its september and very likely the last few weeks in the yankees career of jorge posada.

to date: 4 rings 6 al championships 274 homers and over a thousand ribbies.

product of the system, lifetime yankee and another in the long line of great catchers to wear the pinstripes.

i’d like to see the ride go on for another 8 weeks or so…

  43. blake September 7th, 2011 at 10:57 am

    GB,

Have you seen Sanchez play much? I know be struggled defensively this year but Im assuming the struggles are correctable things …..most reports I’ve read suggest that’s he’s got a chance to.catch long term….what you think?

  44. blake September 7th, 2011 at 10:59 am

“its september and very likely the last few weeks in the yankees career of jorge posada.”

HoF career in my book…..been a pleasure watching him.

  45. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 10:59 am

    Rule 7.08(j)
He fails to return at once to first base after overrunning or oversliding that base. If
he attempts to run to second he is out when tagged. If, after overrunning or
oversliding first base he starts toward the dugout, or toward his position, and fails to
    return to first base at once, he is out, on appeal, when he or the base is tagged;

    Posada was out.

    ————————————————————————————————————————-

I saw quite a few games of his, but, he needs a lot of work. Great arm but not all that accurate and 25 passed balls is not acceptable. That’s where he really needs the work.

  49. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 11:04 am

ok there it is, nothing about fair or foul. and he certainly didn’t return to first base at once.

  50. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:06 am

It amazes me how easily accessible the rules are yet no one bothers to look.

Strike that… it doesn’t amaze me at all.

  51. Shame Spencer September 7th, 2011 at 11:06 am

“You women are just scary. No wonder men are losing the war for supremacy.”

I thought it had already been established that until women stop dancing on poles for “exercise” men have won the war of supremacy ;)

What about that JR Murphy kid? Where does he fall on the depth chart?

  52. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 11:07 am

If he had turned towards foul territory or his dugout, he would have been out? If he turns the other way, he’s out? What’s he supposed to do? Put it in reverse and hope his back-up lights are working? If he crosses the foul line, that’s considered attempting to advance.

  53. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 11:08 am

when 2 guys with a combined 25 or so major league seasons between them say what the rule is, i dont feel the need to go look it up.

  54. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 11:11 am

Shame, I don’t think Murphy will stay as a catcher. The bat is real and he has the speed, arm and agility to play other spots. A better defensive version of Jim Leyritz. He’s taking grounders at 1st and 3rd and was supposed to get in some outfield time. They love the bat.

  55. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:12 am

If he crosses the foul line, that’s considered attempting to advance.

    False.

Look it’s right there in the rules. Don’t try to fudge it and pretend like you know better than the rulebook.

You have to return immediately to the bag. If you turn towards second (which posada took 2 step towards) you can be tagged out. If you turn to leave the playing field, you can be tagged out. it’s not a great mystery and there is no “fudge factor”.

Posada was clearly out. Being in foul territory has absolutely nothing to do with it. That’s why it’s not written in the rules.

  56. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:16 am

Well… I guess that’s not technically false… because if you cross the foul line you are clearly trying to advance. The point is that crossing the foul line does not determine your intent. Turning towards second does. Doesn’t matter where you are standing when you do it.

  57. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 11:17 am

    Read rule 7.08c

  58. Villa Nova-Ya September 7th, 2011 at 11:18 am

Just saw the play you guys are talking about. clearly Posada saw the ball get loose and thought about (made a slight move) to second base. It took a fraction of a second, but a smart fielder who knows the rules took advantage of that spit second series of thoughts/moves by Posada. It was the right call.

  59. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 11:18 am

you can turn left or right.

  60. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:19 am

GB7 – Maybe YOU shoudl read rule 7.08(c)

    (c) He is tagged, when the ball is alive, while off his base. EXCEPTION: A
batter-runner cannot be tagged out after overrunning or oversliding first base if he
    returns immediately to the base;
APPROVED RULING: (1) If the impact of a runner breaks a base loose from its
position, no play can be made on that runner at that base if he had reached the base
    safely.
APPROVED RULING: (2) If a base is dislodged from its position during a play,
any following runner on the same play shall be considered as touching or occupying
the base if, in the umpire’s judgment, he touches or occupies the point marked by
    the dislodged bag.

Still nothing about the foul line.

  61. blake September 7th, 2011 at 11:19 am

The rule is ambiguous but I think Umpires consider the foul line when making those calls…..they look at whether the player crossed the line and whether they clearly comitt to going to 2B……the rule may not mention the foul line…..but I think umpires consider it.

    GB,

With Sanchez…..would you say its an ability thing or just an inexperience and lack of polish thing?

  62. Erin September 7th, 2011 at 11:19 am

AnthonyMcCarron NYY lineup: nunez, martin, swisher, arod, jones, montero, laird, golson, pena, aj. No foolin’

  63. Villa Nova-Ya September 7th, 2011 at 11:20 am

Amazing. 10 fans in the stadium and Cervelli’s HR ball gets interfered with!

Glad they called it in his favor.

  64. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:21 am

Nothing in (c) supercedes (j) where it cearly states If he attempts to run to second he is out when tagged. it also clearly does not mention the word “foul” or “line” once in either rule.

You are only wrong GB7. it’s not the end of the world, but it certainly says alot about your stubborn attitude.

  65. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 11:21 am

he can turn toward the dugout unless he has first ‘attempted’ to advance (based on his turn toward second base).

but the rulebook is strangely worded. i wonder where the language comes from. it reads kind of like the constitution does, with phrases that can be interpreted in many different ways.

is that the original language ol’ alexander wrote?

  66. blake September 7th, 2011 at 11:21 am

If you’re in foul territory…..you can be sure turning left isn’t an attempt to go back to the bag…..it depends on where you are. Its a judgement call by the umpires as to the intent of what the runner is doing.

  67. upstate kate September 7th, 2011 at 11:21 am

“Unlike many other sports, the Official Baseball Rules have remained largely static during the modern era of the game. This is evidenced in much esoteric or awkward language in the rulebook; also, rules experts such as Chris Jaksa and Rick Roder have identified over 50 outright errors in the book, mostly concerning rare or subtle differences.”

    Shame,

a month or so with Pena and Girardi in Florida with correct Sanchez’ flaws. He has a lot of them, but’ pretty easily correctable. They really do need to fix the minor league coaching issues. Much of the problems with Montero and Romine could have been fixed years ago if they had more than one catching instructor for the system. Butch Wynegar is the first real full time coach that Montero has had. Romine gets him next year.

It really is not that bad of a lineup. It just seems terrible compared to the Yankee regular beastly lineup.

Golson and Pena are the only 2 really weak bats in there and now that I have said that one if not both will go deep today.

this lineup is better than alot they have faced this season.
