    We’ll still beat em

  2. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:34 am

I feel sorry for those that have tickets to this game. Talk about being cheated and how expensive these tickets can be at Yankee Stadium.

“I feel sorry for those that have tickets to this game. Talk about being cheated and how expensive these tickets can be at Yankee Stadium.”

What about if you bought field or main level seats to last night’s game?

  4. pkyankfan69 September 7th, 2011 at 11:35 am

It really is not that bad of a lineup. It just seems terrible compared to the Yankee regular beastly lineup.

Golson and Pena are the only 2 really weak bats in there and now that I have said that one if not both will go deep today.

  5. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:35 am

They got an offer to redeem those tickets wiseguy.

  6. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:35 am

Weather is one thing, how upset can you be about bad timing? Watching the Scranton Yankees play is something else entirely…

  7. jacksquat September 7th, 2011 at 11:36 am

Montero is in there so I’m happy. :)

  8. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:36 am

If I had tickets, I would be upset.

“They got an offer to redeem those tickets wiseguy.”

    Well, not exactly.

  10. MTU September 7th, 2011 at 11:37 am

Is this one likely to go off on time ?

  11. Nick in SF September 7th, 2011 at 11:37 am

    Lineup shmineup, AJ is pitching!

  12. 108 stitches September 7th, 2011 at 11:37 am

The missing regulars will be available as needed.

  13. West Coast Yankee Fan September 7th, 2011 at 11:38 am

This will be fun to watch, probably never see anything like it again. I imagine most of these guys are going to be highly motivated to impress. Baseball is a funny game, you never know what is going to happen.

Look at last night. What odds could you have gotten on Cervelli, Gardner and Posada going yard?

  14. JK September 7th, 2011 at 11:38 am

LMAO, 1. Burnett on mound 2. that lineup 3. terrible Baltimore…… I would be pi$$ed if i had tickets

  15. jacksquat September 7th, 2011 at 11:38 am

Only the bottom 3 aren’t really major leaguers (starters). And they could still do something. These lineups once in a while are kind of fun.

  16. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:38 am

WTP – Wrong. Go back and read the rule. You can turn left or right as long as you return to first and make no attempt to go to second. You see it all the time.

I read the rule, did you? “Turning” or rotating in place? Sure you could get away with that… going either way. Unfortunately that has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

The “turning” being referred to is taking steps TOWARDS second base, like Posada did last night.

Stay on topic and don’t argue for no reason. There is literally no “other side” to this. Posada was out because the rule says he was out.

    Hey, a Yankee game’s a Yankee game. :)

  18. Villa Nova-Ya September 7th, 2011 at 11:39 am

5 of the 9 are egulars or regular-bench players. Of the other 4 – one is Montero – who can complain about that? ANd Pena – who at least was a regular-bench player in the majors last year.

  19. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:39 am

What do mean no exactly? They can redeem them for another game that isn’t a permium game which isn’t bad considering they were playing the Orioles to begin with.

  20. LGY September 7th, 2011 at 11:40 am

    Montero Day!

    The best kind of day.

  21. CountryClub September 7th, 2011 at 11:40 am

The top 6 of the lineup is actually fine. The bottom 3 will be the wild card.

  22. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:40 am

By the way, Jim Duquette keeps saying that wasn’t a homerum for Cervelli when to me it would’ve gone out if that fan didn’t try to catch the ball.

  23. CBean September 7th, 2011 at 11:41 am

    Poor AJ.

  24. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:41 am

Laird, Golson and Pena would be the problem for me if I had tickets.

  25. Wave Your Hat September 7th, 2011 at 11:42 am

“The “turning” being referred to is taking steps TOWARDS second base, like Posada did last night.”

I wasn’t talking about Posada. I was talking about the rule. You are allowed to turn toward second as long as you return to first and make no attempt to go to second. And that’s true whether you happen to be standing in fair territory or foul territory when you make the turn.

  26. Yankee Trader September 7th, 2011 at 11:43 am

On a positive note-the lineup might force Burnett to focus better, realizing that his run spport might be less.

Erin-At least Buckner is not in at 1st!

  27. sunny615 September 7th, 2011 at 11:43 am

Scranton gets to play at Yankee Stadium today. Guess everyone else is still asleep. I would be.

  28. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:43 am

WYH – that’s… fine… but “making the turn” at first is a pretty widely understood concept, and doesn’t involve spinning in place.

  29. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:43 am

At least Buckner could hit ML pitching.

  30. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:44 am

Here’s hoping if the game is close that some key substitutions are made mid-game.

  31. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:45 am

Every baseball player since little league knows to not turn left past first base under any circumstances… becuase you NEVER leave ANYTHING up to the interpretation of the umpire that you can control. That this is even a topic of debate is quite frankly… scary.

    “What do mean no exactly?”

By not exactly, I meant, well, “not exactly”. As I understand it field and main level seats can be redeemed for grandstand or terrace seats (with the dreaded proviso “subject to availability”), or for 50% off your purchase next year of a field or main level seat. So if you had field or main level seats, you are out quite a bit of $$ unless you stuck around to watch the game last night.

  34. Wave Your Hat September 7th, 2011 at 11:46 am

“Every baseball player since little league knows to not turn left past first base under any circumstances”

I’d say you see it at least once a game…

  35. RadioKev September 7th, 2011 at 11:48 am

I’d bet this line up is still better than many major league teams.

  36. Yankee Trader September 7th, 2011 at 11:48 am

    Crawdaddy-

Bill Buckner was on the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm episode-Very funny!

  37. Patrick September 7th, 2011 at 11:48 am

    Wave,

Yeah you see them make a turn but then return to the bag. Posada never got back to first before being tagged.

The rule is, if you make any move toward second you can be tagged out. Posada clearly made a move toward second.

ID is right, this is something every little leaguer is taught at the lowest level. Posada made a mistake, not the umpire

  38. Shame Spencer September 7th, 2011 at 11:49 am

GB – I agree about the coaching situation. It just makes very little sense to me. You guys know by now how much I love the NJ Devils.. I think their system is probably one of the best because it preaches the same values from the lowest levels onward. By the time guys are at the AHL level, they’re groomed to be Devils and play the Devils system. I know the sports are entirely different, but the mantra and tone should be set in these guys early. If we want our guys to be patient at the plate and sound defensively (which, IMO, are the two most important aspects of our game) we need to have a staff that can help players get there with solid instruction.

Someone get Hank on the phone and make him put this on Cashman’s honey-do list ;)

    Not a chance.

  41. Ys Guy September 7th, 2011 at 11:49 am

girardi trying to win a ring, not make sure you guys get to see your favorites every day.

you go joe! and good call starting posada last night!

  42. GreenBeret7 September 7th, 2011 at 11:50 am

Enjoy the game civil ones. To the two jackasses and trolls….read my mind.

  43. blake September 7th, 2011 at 11:50 am

Montero is playing….that’s enough for me to watch. The Orioles likely wont play all their regulars either……

  44. LGY September 7th, 2011 at 11:50 am

The only one happy about this lineup is Hughes. :???:

  46. Crawdaddy September 7th, 2011 at 11:51 am

I don’t have a problem with Girardi, but it still doesn’t hide the fact that those with tickets today are going to be disappointed with so many substitutions with minor league players.

  47. Irreverent Discourse September 7th, 2011 at 11:52 am

The only jackass here today was an old man that can’t read the rules.

  48. Wave Your Hat September 7th, 2011 at 11:53 am

    Patrick-

I was just explaining the rule. Posada’s turn was too late for my tired eyes.

  49. UnKnown September 7th, 2011 at 12:57 pm

Swish probably still hasn’t sleep so Joe threw him another red bull and said your playing again son.
