Trevor Hoffman released a statement congratulating Mariano Rivera on record-setting save No. 602.

“I want to congratulate Mariano Rivera on setting the all-time saves record. It’s a great accomplishment and he is still going strong! I have tremendous respect for Mariano not just for his on-field accomplishments, but also for his service to the community.”

Like I said, another easy win for the Sucks.

What luck they have had this season, drawing the worst pitcher in the Major Leagues when they need to win the most.

And, really, Baltimore Orioles, after decades of putridity, you don’t even have one promising minor league pitcher that can be called up?

    I <3 MO :D

Vintage Lackey tonight, pitching a perfect game since the first inning. :(

Hofmann was a great player but blew a ton of big spots for the pods

Actually had to listen to it on the radio. I’m watching replay now with great anticipation :D .

Sad that Joe couldn’t find it in his heart to let Posada catch Mo in the ninth, though. He did push him out on the mound, with a little help from Jeter, was it? To soak up the love.

It’s pretty pathetic. The least Buck could have done with the expanded rosters was brought up some guy from AAA or out of the bullpen. Matuz has given up 6+ runs in 7 straight starts now. There was no indication he would be competitive tonight.

Considering they are throwing some scrub tomorrow, then face Beckett on Wednesday, it is going to take a miracle to even get a split.

I wish the Red Sox could have lost both games today. But, really, with this huge lead, if the Yanks can’t win the AL East Championship, they don’t deserve it.

The battle for the division is over. We’re up 6 in the loss column. OVAH.

Big John showing why he is lacking. ;)

Sterling today admitted he teared up, and for once, I didn’t think he was self dramatizing. Such is the effect of one Mo Rivera :D .

yankfem, I don’t know if you remember, but there were Yankee fans who wanted us to sign Lackey, and thought it was some Boston coup that they did….

Pruf, yes, indeed, I do remember. :)

Kay on his show today said he was talking to some “baseball people” on the field today who said if Rivera had been with the Braves during the Smoltz-Maddux-Glavine era, they would have won 6 championships…
