    Hey Chad

    Do you happen to have a picture to confirm that CC’s left arm is still attached to his body?

    I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been invited.

    repost:

    Not a very exciting magic number photo but it is reality.

    http://img.alibaba.com/wsphoto.....ipping.jpg

    I squeezed a Billy Martin photo in last night before Jorge’s heroics but honestly this has been the quickest magic number countdown I can remember. It’s like they went into Fenway 3 weeks ago and just stole the Sox’ mojo.

    We always say how the Yanks are rolling and then the Sox come in and win a series and BAM! , the team starts struggling. The Yanks totally flipped that on them.

    CC is fine…..his innings are in line with where he’s been every year and he pitched on extra rest for over a month……he pitched better last night…..now to tune up for game 1.

    I feel as confident about this team as I have all season because 1) the lineup is finally healthy 2) soriano has finally started pitching like he can 3) nova is pitching like a legit 2 starter right now.

    You never know what going to happen but I like this teams depth…..I like their bullpen and I think they have a good.shot at winning this thing.

  14. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 9:24 am

    I hate the goggles.

    Here’s a link to more photos from last night.

    http://www.daylife.com/topic/N.....tos/1/grid

    One thing that I did notce from last night’s post game was that Mariano was uncharacteristically exuberant in describing how he felt over the last week. He’s usually so workmanlike in these instances especially with the finish line so far away but he was like a kid on Christmas morning last night.

  17. CountryClub September 22nd, 2011 at 9:28 am

    It’ll be interesting to see if they pitch CC this Sunday or Monday. Either way he’s only going to throw about 50 pitches. So if they throw him Monday it wont be a big deal that he’s on “short rest” for Game 1.

    “We’ve got a good team,” Cashman said. “We definitely had some surprises. We needed to have some surprises. There were some areas that were extremely questionable but then solvable, and they did, on their own. So we’re grateful for that.”

    The diversity of this team has sustained them so far this year.

    Yesterday afternoon, Noesi is on the mound , Posada was playing 1B and Jones was in the outfield. Last nigt the team clinched with Derek, Alex and Mo watching from the bench and Posada pinch hitting for Montero.

    25+ and they’ve needed contributions from every last one of them at some point this year and for the most part they have delivered.

  51. Bronx Jeers September 22nd, 2011 at 9:56 am

    Sorry Man but the Sux greased the skids when their SP imploded.

    ———————————————————————————

    You’re killing my buzz. :wink:

    But I do believe their problems go beyond SP.

  52. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 9:57 am

    Back later.

    It’s cool with me if they do. All the better.

  54. tomingeorgia September 22nd, 2011 at 9:58 am

    MTU,
    Wasn’t Abe Stark also the haberdasher who had the sign in Ebbet’s Field that said, “Hit this sign, win a suit!”?

  55. Don Vito A. Bellamo September 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 am

    Hey, the ugly munchkin has something to say about his team: ““That’s a sign of a [expletive] team. Good teams don’t go 5-16 in any month,” said second baseman Dustin Pedroia”
    .
    That is priceless. Indeed the mighty BoSux Nation has crumbled. If they fall bass-ackwards into the playoffs, the Tigers will destroy them. Yankees are set to be ALL SET for the 1st round of the playoffs, then will get by Texas & the Tigers on their way to beating WHOEVER the NL brings to the WS. Last night was just step 1. There will be LOTS more fun to follow!

  56. kd September 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 am

    Great pics and what a year for the yankees. coming in as the underdogs and the entire espn staff saying that theyy’d be a third place team. freddy and colon could have been busts. they performed better than anybody thought. jeter came off an injury and hit .330 for months. he’s not done. robbie was robbie. the grandy man was a revelation, so much so that this place never fretted about trading away a 20 game winner for him.

    and this team is poised to be better next year than they were this year.

    the post-season is about who gets hot, but they’ve got as good a shot as anybody. sit back and watch #28, hopefully….

  57. Erin September 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 am

    Yankees The 2011 AL East title gives the Yankees 12 first-place finishes since 1995. That total is the most in @MLB over that span. #YankeesFacts

  58. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 am

    The Yanks can help send the Sox into oblivion this weekend.

    That being said, don’t like that the Halos are right behind in the wild card. They are very scary in a 5-game series with that pitching. They play Texas the last three games, I think.

    Pedey is right. At the moment, at least, the Red Sox are not a good team. But they still have a very good shot of making the playoffs. They should send the Yanks a bouquet of flowers for their help this week.

  61. pkyankfan69 September 22nd, 2011 at 10:05 am

    I got a sneak peak of the Yankees lineup tonight:

    CF – Gardner
    2B – Nunez
    LF – Jones
    DH – Burnett
    1B – Posada
    RF – Dickerson
    3B – Laird
    C – Romine
    SS – Pena

    Colon has been scratched… Proctor will get the start

    GO YANKS!!!

  62. CountryClub September 22nd, 2011 at 10:06 am

    Another option for CC is to not pitch him until Tuesday or Wednesday (whatever is throw day would be). Have him get some rest between now and then and then pitch one inning on his throw day. Get him ready for Game 1.

    -~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Very true and the ball had to be hit as a lined shot to hit the sign. Carl Furillo patrolled RF in those days for the Dodgers and was later a construction foreman for the building of the World Trade Center.

  67. tomingeorgia September 22nd, 2011 at 10:20 am

    108,
    Carl Furillo had a helluvan arm, too.

    Reggie goes around with the Yankees quite a bit. Not sure if he has some official role with the team, but he is out there with them during batting practice even when they are on the road. Not sure its every game, but he is with them more often than not.

    Wish I could have been with the gang last night to celebrate. My wife broke her PC and I let her use mine in evening. Thanks to Trish for the shout out…she’s the best!

    I have to laugh at those who are still criticizing Girardi and/or Cashman. As Joni Mitchell once said, “you don’t know what you’ve got til its gone.” (They paved YS and put up a parking lot…)

    __________
    We watched the celebration on the big screen at the Stadium at midnight. Spent 12 hours there. All I have to say is Hip Hip, DP-Rob, CC with the heart of a champion, playoff bound and Division Champs …again! Don’t think I have ever seen two clinching games in one day. Oh and to quote the Stadium crowd, Boston Sux. The Stadium erupted when Boston’s final score came up. I live for this! :D

    JM, are you going tonight? I am so tempted with Matt Moore starting for the Rays, and potential appearances of some of the kids…

    Let’s get it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It was George Steinbrenner himself that said in 2000 when accepting the Commissioner’s Trophy how difficult it had become since ’95 in going through 3 tiers of playoffs to get on top of the world.
    Thinking back to that time, we may never see a 3-peat again. Things have to align just right to do so.
    It’s an extremely tough row to hoe. No doubt. But Never is a very long time.
    Our Farm is one of the best in baseball. We are reducing the # of bad contracts and getting younger, faster and more athletic as Cashman wanted.
    We are a Cash cow so we can supplement with FA’s, etc.
    Most importantly we have lot’s of pitching on the way.
    Who know’s ? I’m optimistic going forward.
    ;)
    edit: knows. sorry.
  106. BoJo September 22nd, 2011 at 11:27 am
    TG–you have a better excuse than me!
  107. Betsy September 22nd, 2011 at 11:27 am
    CC is going to have to pitch a lot better than he has….and they need a third and fourth starter to step up if they are going to play well into October. As to this Sox, if they get in they are going to be dangerous, so I’m not going to make too much fun of them
  108. 108 stitches September 22nd, 2011 at 11:28 am
    The fate of the TB Rays lie in the hands of the Yankees tonight, the Blue Jays over the weekend in St. Pete and the Yankees also in St. Pete for the final 3 games.
    With 6 games remaining, the Sux get the Yankees for 3 games at the Stadium and close out with 3 games at Camden Yards against the team that just took 3 of 4 against them.
    The possibility of a 1 game playoff in St. Pete exists between the Ray and Sux.
  110. PacoDooley September 22nd, 2011 at 11:29 am
    how great would it be to go 5-2 and win 100 games this year? It’s a meaningless number, but it is also a bit of a stamp of a high quality team. Just look at how few teams have won 100 games in the past and how some teams haven’t done it in ages…
  111. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 11:30 am
    Erin-
    They have got to be kidding. How pathetic.
    :)
  112. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 11:31 am
    Reggie Jackson currently serves as a special advisor to the New York Yankees, this is why you see him at games etc.
  113. Joe from Long Island September 22nd, 2011 at 11:32 am
    Erin – good morning, and hope you had a good night :)
    I’d be surprised, a bit, if the Mets made that deal. They need Capuano to fill the rotation next year, and, besides, they have Boston by the you know what. What is Boston going to deal them that the Mets would want? Bard? Aceves? Matt Albers? Some A-ball phenom, that Boston needs themselves? I really don’t think Sandy Alderson is going to fall for Carl Crawford, either.
    MTU :
    The game is changing. It’s now coming down to who has the best talent evaluators and development programs at all levels of the minor league system. The Yankees future is bright but I’d like to see the team have more coachesd in the system to bring the players along. Specialty coaches such as baserunning coaches would enhance the development.
  115. tomingeorgia September 22nd, 2011 at 11:36 am
    MTU,
    Capuano is better than what the have to throw against the Yanks this weekend.
  116. Erin September 22nd, 2011 at 11:37 am
    Morning Joe! I did have a good night, thank you. How could I not, right? ;)
  117. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 11:37 am
    Agree 1000%. Have said so many times. That’s an area still in need of improvement.
    ;)
  118. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 am
    yankeefem,
    Yes, I am heading up to the stadium tonight. Looking forward to seeing the kids and checking out Matt Moore, who certainly looks like the real deal.
  119. MaineYankee September 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 am
    Betsy
    If you are concerned about the Yankees pitching then you have no worries about the RS.
    Their pitching is in shambles and the main reason for their poor Sept.
  120. Erin September 22nd, 2011 at 11:38 am
    Joelsherman1 #Redsox did ask #Mets about Capuano, but 1 person involved in talks described it as while back and not ongoing now
  121. Erin September 22nd, 2011 at 11:39 am
    yankeefem-glad you had a good night. That must have been so cool to be there for both games! :)
  122. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 11:40 am
    Tom-
    I apologize for not being clearer.
    What I meant was that it is pathetic to have to be in such a position at this point in the season.
    To have to try to make a desperation trade. It is a sign of total management failure.
    Which of course makes me happy.
    :)
  123. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 11:40 am
    How badly do the Sux want a SP? Could we sell AJ to them for $15M?
    I am having fun looking at the celebration photos.
    Is it me or does Cano look like a kid who just won his 1st division title?
    Oh the youth!
    Favorite photo is of Reggie, ARod and Cano!
  127. Joe from Long Island September 22nd, 2011 at 11:41 am
    Erin – my wife got home from a business dinner late last night, in the top of the ninth. So, this morning, while having breakfast, we watched the YES replay of the end of the game.
    What a storybook ending! CC, DRob, Robbie. Swish coming off the bench and getting a clutch hit, then getting into scoring position. The managerial moves. Jorge the proud vet coming in for the young hero-in-waiting – and producing. And, finally, Soriano getting the save in a delicious bit of irony.
    Thank goodness mrs. joe puts up with me and my Yankees.
  128. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 11:42 am
    As for Reggie, he frequently travels with the team. When I went to Chicago earlier this year to see Yankees-Cubs, he was out there. Came over and talked to the fans and signed some autographs during batting practice. Got a nice photo of him and Arod and another of him with Cano.
    JM, I am so envious, but happy for you that you will be there. I have been plotting to see Matt Moore forever, and if the kids pitch, I will not like missing that. but just don’t know if I can make it back tonight… long ride… and I have weekend tickets, but…
    I hope the rain holds off. After the rain delay, we lucked out last night, the rain perfectly stayed away, even on the ride home. A magical night all around! :)
  130. MTU September 22nd, 2011 at 11:43 am
    Al-
    Hysterical isn’t it ? The anointed ones slip sliding away.
    Love to see the same happen to the Phillies (not likely).
    :)
  131. tomingeorgia September 22nd, 2011 at 11:44 am
    Somebody asked this before, but what if the Sox, Rays and Angels wind up tied for the WC? How would that playoff be arranged?
  132. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 11:45 am
    thanks kate!
    this game is a makeup of the July 8 game which was rained out. my friends and i were on our way to the stadium when we heard about the rainout that night. and of course…it’s supposed to rain tonight again. and tomorrow as well, when i also have tickets. why not, right?
    yankeefem,
    the stadium must have been rocking when jorge came up and then when he got that hit!
  135. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 11:48 am
    it looks like Friday’s game has a good chance of getting rained out. they say the NYC area could get 3-4 inches of rain over the next three days. :(
  137. yankeefeminista September 22nd, 2011 at 11:50 am
    JM, yes, Stadium was rocking in spite of a small crowd, so many no shows, but loud and passionate nevertheless. The whole day-night had a playoff vibe. Also the pitching was *so* good on both sides. Just a treat to be at in terms of both the pitching, our “clutchness” and the significance. Love day-night DH’s!
  138. Erin September 22nd, 2011 at 11:50 am
    Joe-that game definitely had a storybook feel to it. Total team effort. And I was so happy for Posada.
  139. yankeefeminista September 22nd, 2011 at 11:51 am
    JM, yes Friday, looking like a rainout. Where do we put that game though with a FOX 4PM game on Saturday? I have Sunday tickets and would love another day-night then. ;)
    JM, yes Jorge was the icing on the cake. I knew he was going to come in and I knew he would deliver. Just a lot of screaming, clapping, tears and mad celebration by the crowd after that hit. :)
  143. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 11:54 am
    MTU -
    Believe it or not, the Phillies could have a tough time getting by the Brewers.
  144. upstate kate September 22nd, 2011 at 11:56 am
    Anyone who thinks Girardi doesn’t care about Po should listen to his post game comments.
    In a year when Jeet got 3000, Mo 602+, that was Po’s magic moment.
  146. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 11:58 am
    Tom -
    If they wind up in a 3 way tie, MLB will have a draw to see which team gets the bye. The others will play at the home of the team with the best division record, or head to head. If it were that way today RS would play in tampa, or Angels in Tampa.
  147. Warning Track Power September 22nd, 2011 at 12:00 pm
    Just learned about Posada thought his hit was actually in the bottom of the 9th, not
    the bottom of 8th, LOL!!
    No wonder he was celebrating halfway down the 1st base line last night-HILARIOUS!
  148. bruceb September 22nd, 2011 at 12:00 pm
    Celebrating with the Yankees never grows old…but I feel slightly cheated by the speed with which events unfolded. Was anyone really prepared for the Yanks to clinch the AL East title yesterday (apart from the Stadium staff, who had the champagne on ice and the plastic sheeting at the ready)? I was looking forward to clinching against the Sox – that would have been so much sweeter – but I know I shouldn’t be looking a gift horse in the mouth. The captain had his moment at the Stadium, Mo had his moment. Now Po has had his. Funny how all these magic moments happen at home rather than on the road. Is it good planning By Joe Girardi (fielding a scratch team for that final team in Toronto) or just God’s way?
  149. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 12:02 pm
    Posada, thought it was the 9th inning, too bad, he might have continued and ran off the field. Hey Posada, always good to know you’re in the game! LOL :)
  150. BIG AL September 22nd, 2011 at 12:04 pm
    Perhaps that scoreboard is not large enough for a man Posada’s age to see.
  151. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 12:16 pm
    yankeefem,
    I would guess day-night doubleheader on Sunday? I hope so because if that happens will try to go to both. You are right, day-night doubleheaders are the best! reminds me of my childhood (which was, unfortunately, a long time ago, LOL).
  152. JM September 22nd, 2011 at 12:17 pm
    MTU,
    Yes, an ark is the only way to go at this point! Somehow the NYC area has developed the climate of the Pacific Northwest this summer, except a bit warmer.
    In all seriousness, I hope the rain is not as bad as predicted because the ground is still soggy around here and that much rain is going to lead to more bad flooding in places that have barely dried out since the last round.
  153. Brennan86 September 22nd, 2011 at 5:44 pm
    Thanks everyone for answering my question about Reggie. I knew he was an advisor to the team but I wasn’t aware that he was allowed into the locker room. I remember a few years back there was a piece in the Daily News or the Post about how Reggie was upset about not being allowed to a game or onto one of the floats after the team clinched the Series.
