So CC pitches game 2 on Sunday?

  2. cs in la September 30th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

So, how do they handle the pitching?

  3. Bret The Hitman September 30th, 2011 at 10:26 pm

Should’ve taken Noesi over Ayala. Without CC, Joe’s going to be dipping into that pen more than he imagined. Rain. Plan for it.

  4. Tyler September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

    Bret-

Where do you go to school in the south?

  5. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

    Those are the big questions.

Eckersley said they wouldn’t bring a pitcher back tomorrow. Wells said he thinks it’s a possbility because CC is a horse.

We’ll have to wait to see what Joe and Leyland say.

  6. hairy lucchino September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Just pitch CC Tomorrow. If anyone can handle it, he can. Go for the jugular early

  7. DocTodd September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

They need to start these games earlier…that way if there is a rain delay or 2, they can get the game in….hard to do when you start at 8:37…..they should start at 6 PM Friday, and 4 PM Sat…Of course it’s all about the $.,,

  8. CB September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

Baseball really materially changed the potential outcome of this series through this nonsense.

Really hard to believe the men who are always talking about the “integrity” of the game are so willing to treat that integrity so casually when it suits their purposes.

The Yankees are now in a real bind. I don’t see how CC is going to be able to come back on short rest as they were anticipating for his next planned start.

This game shouldn’t have been the late game – and starting it in the rain was foolish.

All of this was driven by TV ratings.

  9. Bronx Jeers September 30th, 2011 at 10:27 pm

I left at the perfect time.

    Here comes the 4

  10. Triple Short of a Cycle September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Why was this game even started?

  11. hairy lucchino September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

Leyland is old school, he may pitch Verl tomorrow.

  12. LockDown September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

If we get a lot of rain… stop & start… a couple of these games will be bp games. We have 2 long men (AJ/Hughes) and 1 mid man (Ayala)…

I wanted Colon over Ayala. That would have given us 3 long men. I had a feeling the extra arms would be valuable. Just didn’t realize it was because of rain

  13. blake September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

This screws up the 3 man rotation deal……It’ll be interesting to see what they do. If CC could pitch Sunday then he could throw a potential Game 5 on 3 days rest. What a mess

  14. JobaTipsHisCap September 30th, 2011 at 10:28 pm

    Tomorrow night it will rain.

  15. Joe from Long Island September 30th, 2011 at 10:29 pm

CC on Sunday? For 5 innings?

  16. Sigmund September 30th, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Does this mean that, if we’re to believe Leyland when he says Verlander will not pitch on short rest, even if the series goes five games, Verlander will only pitch once? If so, this rain can be interpreted as a big win for the Yanks.

  17. Tyler September 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

    CB-

Exactly. The Yanks are ratings gold and Selig took advantage of that. This forecast likely was not some new piece of information that started today. It is ridiculous for both teams. Really cheapened these games.

  18. Bret The Hitman September 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

    Tyler,

    Asheville area.

  19. CB September 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

This may force them to have to use AJ Burnett in this series.

It’s a huge advantage for Detroit.

  20. m September 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

Hughes & AJ are contingency pitchers.

If CC can pitch on Sunday, I would pitch Nova tomorrow.

Otherwise, Hughes tomorrow and Nova on Sunday.

  21. RhapsodyInBlue September 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm

    Could be AJ

  22. blake September 30th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

unbelievable. I really liked how this game started out for the Yankees.

  23. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

“Postgame” on now. Maybe we’ll find out about who’ll be pitching for the Yanks and when CC will pitch next.

    Nova tomorrow

    Freddy Sunday

  24. yanks 27 September 30th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Was this rain not on the radar? How the hell does this happen in a playoff game?

  25. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Joe said no CC on Sunday.

  26. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Girardi addressing the media on YES

  27. Benny Blanco September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

I’m so sick of the rain. This has been nonstop all year! Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

  28. JobaTipsHisCap September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

    Weather stinks

  29. RadioKev September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

    CC out pitched Verlander!

    This series is a lock!

  30. CB September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Verlander will pitch twice. Regardless of what Leyland said before. this changes things.

    Verlander only threw one inning.

They’ll look at this as a throw day kind of situation for him.

  31. rb from LI September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

MLB should allow for weather in some fashion. At the very least monitor weather and start games earlier rather than expecting to have “windows”. Can’t be beholden to television, especially when it’s predictable given the weather the NY area has been experiencing. Stupid.

  32. EliasInNH September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

    yay bronx jeers

  33. Joe from Long Island September 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

moaning about what’s done will not help things.

girardi, pena, and rothschild have to figure out the pitching. the flexibility of having phil and aj may work out.

game tied, but yanks get one more ab than tigers. hey, look at the bright side, it’s the only way…..

  34. Bret The Hitman September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

If Girardi had planned on using AJ in the ALCS, maybe it’s better he’s staying fresh. A long layoff could be disastrous for AJ. He’s just so inconsistent.

  35. Captain Clutch September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

So the Yanks are going Nova, Garcia, CC, AJ?? What a disaster.

  36. EliasInNH September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

    @Trisha
    what is Joe saying?

  37. luis September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

    So who is pitching tomorrow??

  38. Niblick September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm

Starting this game in the face of the weather forecast is Joe Torre’s ultimate revenge against the Yankees.

  39. DocTodd September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Fans that went all the way to the Stadium tonight for an inning and a half must be pissed…I guess they can return for tomorrow’s game??? What if they lost or tossed out their ticket stub??? Anybody know how that works??

  40. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

    Girardi announced it

    Nova tomorrow

    Freddy Sunday

    and he’ll go from there.

  41. jacksquat September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

I would start/continue CC tomorrow, then he is ready for game 5 on regular rest. Otherwise, CC pitches game 2, is eligible for game 5 on 3 days rest but that’s after starting game 2 on 1 day rest from the “false start”. Both teams are forced to a 4 man rotation either way. That means AJ is starting game 4, if there is one.

  42. Tyler September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

    Bret-

Cool. My older sister went to Auburn. I didn’t know how far south you were talking about haha.

  43. blake September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

if the Tigers go with Fister tomorrow then I guess the Yanks have to counter with Nova. If you want any chance of CC pitching twice in the series though then he has to pitch Sunday. He only threw 27 pitches tonight……but you have to figure the warm up and all of that. It really stinks that this happened……but the Tigers have the same thing to deal with with Verlander so we’ll see how it goes.

Again….tomorrow will basically be a new game in which the Yankees have 1 more at bat than the Tigers do….so that should be good.

  44. JobaTipsHisCap September 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Why did they start the game anyway?
The forecast was there, and they still started the game.

  45. Triple Short of a Cycle September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

Great job MLB. But once again lets pay attention to the important things like making the all star game count and adding an extra playoff team

  46. LockDown September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

Bret The Hitman September 30th, 2011 at 10:33 pm
If Girardi had planned on using AJ in the ALCS, maybe it’s better he’s staying fresh. A long layoff could be disastrous for AJ. He’s just so inconsistent.
    —-

He would get a sim game.

  47. Red Robin September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

In 2006, Game 2, a night game, was postponed and turned into a day game. Tigres won.

In 2011, Game 2, a night game, is postponed and turned into a day game. Tigres win ?

    See the parallel ?

  48. blake September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

CC only threw 2 more pitches than Verlander even though he threw an extra inning

  49. trisha - true pinstriped blue September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

    GIRARDI HAS ANNOUNCED

    Nova pitches tomorrow

    Freddy pitches Sunday

    he’ll go from there.

    It’s a done deal.

    So we deal with it.

  50. Yankee Trader September 30th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

It’s all a joke! If it goes 5 the ALCS starts Oct 8th, the NLCS the 9th. They should still give the teams a day off for travel and if it goes 5 start the ALCS the same day as NLCS

  51. RadioKev September 30th, 2011 at 10:36 pm

“Too late to put a roof on.”

  52. CB September 30th, 2011 at 10:36 pm

This also puts a huge amount of pressure on Nova.

If they need 4 pitchers and CC only throws once then they really need to win Nova’s game over Fister.

    And CC looked great tonight.

Girardi putting the best spin on it possible to help baseball save face. “The weather around here is unpredictable.” Oh boy…

  53. Eroc September 30th, 2011 at 10:37 pm

    Selig is killing baseball.

  54. RadioKev September 30th, 2011 at 10:37 pm

So tomorrow’s starters have inherited 1 run each?

The Tigers have to pitch a half inning more?

    What a weird ruling.

  55. Triple Short of a Cycle September 30th, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Was it supposed to rain all night? Why was this game called already?

  56. Ys Guy September 30th, 2011 at 10:38 pm

    cc going in games 2 & 5?

  57. DocTodd September 30th, 2011 at 10:45 pm

    So we face Verlander once….
