@Yankees: Derek Jeter has played in 57 ALDS games and has collected at least 2 hits in 25 of them. He has hit safely in 47 of the 57.

Oh for Pete’s sake! Girardi let the kid try to finish the game with a eight-run lead. An eight-run lead. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It didn’t work out. Big deal. Ayala has ben fine in those situations all year long, but he didn’t have it last night. So, the Yanks won by six instead of eight. Using Mo to get an out in that situation is hardly a big deal at all. If it had been a major burden for Rivera, Girardi wouldn’t have used Mo, because he had plenty of other options with a six-run lead.

Pete is gone, thankfully, and I wouldn’t do anything for his sake.

“Letting the kid finish the game” was dumb. Dumb. Absolutely no need to pitch him any more, even with his pitch count relatively low. But binder Joe looked at the 8x pitch count and thought he could go a little more. Well of course he could. But he didn’t need to. He’s the #2 pitcher on the team. He needs to pitch game 5 if necessary. You put him out there for the 9th you are taking unnecessary risk. And look what happened, he got whacked in the ass. Luckily for Joe’s sake it wasn’t somewhere worse. And then after he got hit in the ass he walked the next guy. He was seen stretching the area hit. But Binder Joe thinks he still hasn’t reached 100 pitches, let’s use him up as much as we possibly can! Then finally after the next guy gets a hit and the bases are freakin loaded he calls in Ayala. Ayala was the right call, it just might have been a little easier for him to come in at the beginning of the inning or with a guy on first after Nova got hit. And, if you had bothered to try to comprehend what I wrote, I didn’t say calling in Mo at the point he finally had to was the wrong call, it just should never have gotten there. And I’m not pointing my finger at Ayala, I’m pointing it at Girardi.

And yes, I will continue to point out when Girardi does stupid things even when I am overall enjoying the Yankees winning despite him.

Because if there is no Game 4 you don’t want CC going that long before he starts the ALCS on Saturday night. CC doesn’t want the rest and doesn’t pitch well on rest. Throw him Monday and then he is lined up for Game 1 on regular rest.

Also, maybe he can go in relief on Thursday in Game 5 if the game gets really crazy like goes 14 innings or something. CC could give you 2 or even 3 innings there.

Jeter is very important in this game. Schrezer has struggled with LHB this year.

If Jetes can get on base in front of Grandy and Cano Max is going to be in trouble.

    Pound GERBER

If the Yankees go up 2-0 they should not save CC for game 4. First, AJ vs Verlander is almost a forfeit. And even if they somehow won that matchup, in game 1 of the ALCS CC would not have made a real start for about 17 days, with nothing but a sim start and 2 inning start in that time. Not good. If they lose and CC goes game 4, he would be on 3 days rest for game 1 of the ALCS.

    * Yankees are going to smash Scherzer today

    * Fly ball pitcher Scherzer will struggle at Yankee Stadium

    * Scherzer has >5 ERA away from Detroit

    * Yankees are going to hit several homeruns against Scherzer

You know what they say about Expectation and Reality in baseball.

Ha. I was just talking about this concept in all of sports: http://adamrh.wordpress.com/20.....-the-rain/

Mo did not pitch in five days and he needed work to stay sharp.
Using him for one out with three pitches is not the end of the world.
Most likely he will not pitch more than twice in the ALDS, basically in the two wins required.
I am glad Joe G is managing instead of the whiners here.
    It is just unbeleivable….

BTW, the stadium was loud last night.

“Letting the kid finish the game” was dumb. Dumb.

    =====

You can repeat that as many times as you like, but repetition doesn’t make it so. And I understood what you wrote the first time, thank you very much.

  13. BBFan October 2nd, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Why is letting Nova pitch 9th is dumb?
Taht is the best time when the game is not in danger of losing, to let him work out of the difficult situaiton he created. It is a great learning experience.

  14. theREALkevin October 2nd, 2011 at 12:28 pm

expectation and reality, you mean like the “expectation” that the Red Sox were supposed to be a lock to win 100 games this year? the “expectation” that they were a lock to go to the World Series after that and probably win it all?

and the “reality” is that they tanked, suffered one of the worst collapses in baseball history, and missed the postseason altogether.

you mean like that? man that must’ve hurt.

    Yankeefem : Who’s J-Ram ? Jose Ramirez ?
    _____
Yes! If his slider evolves, with that FB and changeup, watch out. I would love to see him start vs. come out of pen if he only has two pitches. When I saw him in low A his FB-changeup combo were ridiculous-plus to plus plus. Fingers crossed on him.

Heading to Stadium too! Rock this joint! Go Steady Freddy! Go Yanks!

I post my opinions. And because they are different from yours, does not make them “whining”. Didn’t say it was the end of the world, and 3 wins are required to win the ALDS.

Yankeefem—I’m heading that way too in a few minutes. Have a great time!! Go Yankees!

  18. Bx is Burning October 2nd, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Of course, expectation and reality are not mutually exclusive.

For instance, one expects Ruby to be a d-bag and indeed she always is.

Nova getting the experience was nice. Not dumb.
Mo needed three pitches. Relax people. He hadn’t pitched in a while so he can use the exercise.
Some people here just dislike Giraedi, so every move he makes its a “binder Joe move”. I don’t like the guy 100% but he is getting the job done. You gomanage the game then.

    Asd-

Sure you’re talking about the “2007 ALCS” in that piece of yours?

  22. luis October 2nd, 2011 at 12:55 pm

    Hi everyone,

Had to miss the last couple of innings, here are my two cents of what happened yesterday:

    1) Being a resumed game, they had to let the kid finish that game, it would have saved the BP and give a huge advantage to the team going forward since the Tigers used their BP early.

2)Ayala didn’t have it last night, i might say that Joe overreacted a little bit by bringing Mo, but i don’t blame him, you worry about winning today.

    3) last night was text book yankee baseball at it’s best!, loved the way Cano has become the player he is.

    4) Nova is one hell of a pitcher, at the start of the season i thought he was going to be the bridge to the B’s, now…..I think he is going to be in the rotation for years to come. He has the right poise, doesn’t get rattled easy.

Anyway, what a night!! GO YANKEES!
