A few quiet mid-day notes and links
Still no word on CC Sabathia and nothing official on Brian Cashman — word is the Cashman announcement won’t come today — but some other teams are making news with names you’ll recognize.
• The Braves actually found a trade market for Derek Lowe. Details are unknown, but Atlanta has reportedly moved Lowe and his ugly contract — have to assume the Braves are paying most of that — to the Indians. It’s worth noting that this is the last year of Lowe’s contract. There are two more years on A.J. Burnett’s deal.
• Aramis Ramirez has voided his contract in order to become a free agent. As much as the Yankees could certainly use a productive corner infielder to spell Alex Rodriguez, a massive contract to Ramirez would probably be overkill.
• Grady Sizemore hasn’t been able to stay healthy, and now the Indians have declined his option. Not sure I’d put him in the same boat as Eric Chavez as a player who’s going to have to settle for a minor league deal because of his injury history. Someone will take a chance on his talent.
• Speaking of Chavez, one alternative for his spot is off the market as Eric Hinske’s option was picked up by the Braves. But Nate McClouth is available. That’s a guy who’s definitely trending the wrong way.
• All the best to Tony LaRussa, who’s going out on top, announcing his retirement just days after winning the World Series. Does that affect Albert Pujols’ free agency? Those two were apparently very close.

SI_JonHeyman 1 min #braves surely will have to pay about $10M of lowe’s $15M salary
You mean the Braves are going to eat money to trade a pitcher that isn’t any good so that one of their kids can enter the rotation……….wow what an idea.
Total speculation: If CC walks (say the Rangers give him 7 years), do the Yanks go after Pujols?
Can Pujols pitch?
“Total speculation: If CC walks (say the Rangers give him 7 years), do the Yanks go after Pujols?”
No. I think they would spread the money around. Probably sign Darvish and maybe trade for a guy like Danks if they could.
Speculation that LaRussa’s health may have played a part in the decision.
A few days of TLR and Albert in a package deal to the Cubbies could have been fun to pass the time of the off season.

CC_Sabathia Hey yall, thanks to @dino my twitter account is back up and running…what did I miss??
———————–
Nothing much a couple of Yankees fans pissed off about someone going to opt out lol
Let’s face it, offensively you have to be hot. Big AL had the 3 homer game in a blowout, but otherwise it was Berkman (who we had last year), Freese and Craig who won this series offensively. Just like with us, not one guy can simply carry the team offensively through the whole playoffs. I mean Holliday wasn’t exactly spectacular either. It was that we had so many guys come up small in big spots, that’s why you lose. Next time around they might come up big. Who knows? They did in 2009 or at least Arod did.
la russa is calling it? on the same day as kadashian opting out?
say, you don’t suppose………
erin?
Well, that’s kind of the thought. Arod helped carry the Yanks through the ALDS in 09, and some of the ALCS. Would Pujols be worth a shot?
My current feeling on the possible CC opt-out:
If it happens, let CC go and make the price high for whomever pays.
joe from LI –
And about her getting traded to the Indians, actually it was a team option that they turned down.
@Indians twitter: been there, done that.
DocGooden16 If CC goes else where which he’s not… look for the angels to be players not the philliis
isn’t all this angst a bit premature? CC hasn’t even opted out yet.
what have these kardashians ever done that they get so much publicity?
does la russa go into the hof? i think so. he’s got a boatload of ml wins, he’s won ws titles in each league, and he revolutionized baseball strategy regarding relief pitching.

Hmmm…I may have to look into this further Joe. …………………..
If CC did for some reason go elsewhere (can’t see the Yanks letting him get away though), they would be smart to spread that money around. I really wish that this was a couple of years down the road and Banuelos had proven himself at the major league level. The yanks problem is that they don’t have a guy who can step into the number 1 role without CC. Puts them in a bad position.
kate, that’s what i’m wondering? can she get a multiyear deal? is boras her agent?
maybe she’ll be at the winter meetings. that would spice things up more than scott boras walking thru the lobby with cashman.
If Lowe is tradeable, pack AJ’s bags asap.
“isn’t all this angst a bit premature? CC hasn’t even opted out yet.”
A-a-a-men, A-a-a-men, A-amen, Amen, Amen
(Sing it over)

“what have these kardashians ever done that they get so much publicity?”
head-scratcher of the year, but whatever it is, they’ve done it well!
I think CC and the Yanks get a deal done soon..I can’t imagine he and Amber would want to be in limbo well into December.
SI_JonHeyman 37 mins braves getting minor-league pitcher (but mostly getting some financial relief) in lowe deal
AJ is better than Lowe is
The Braves ate 10 million dollars to trade Lowe….AJ is movable if the Yankees will do it.
I still think AJ is a Yankee in 2012. IMO, it’s much more likely that he’s traded next fall/winter
“what have these kardashians ever done that they get so much publicity?”
Had a mother who doubles as a pimp? That woman is a mastermind. I always felt bad for the ugly Kardashian though.. I forget her name.. there’s Kim who had the sex tape, Kourtney who has the kid, and the other one who looks like she got mutated like something out of that movie “Twins.” It must be tough being the Danny DeVito of the family.
“I still think AJ is a Yankee in 2012. IMO, it’s much more likely that he’s traded next fall/winter”
Erin….I agree that’s probably what will happen. I think they should explore it this winter though.
If your Amber Sabathia.. what is your priority? Finding out where you’re going to be living or making sure your man is getting $25 mil a year? Its honestly hard for me to decide because initially I’d go straight for the cash but maybe the peace of mind of knowing the mansion you live in will be home for a while is worth forgoing some money you’d see 5 years down the road?
Me.. straws.. grasping..
you’re*
Shame- you’re thinking of Khloe
Shame-
I hate Boston sports fans but they raised themselves up a notch in my book with the “ugly sister” chant at Lamar Odom in the NBA Finals. That was genius.
BTW, raise your hand if you thought we’d be discussing the Kardashian family on the LoHud today.
I have been forced to watch the Kardashians from time to time…..the one thing I can’t figure out is why the pretty one stays with that douchbag boyfriend of hers…..ok this thread is devolving rapidly
AJ will should a Yankee in 2012, and should he pitch to capability, could fulfill his contract years.
Lot’s of conditional words there…

It beats the depression of CC possibly opting out haha. But seriously I don’t know if there is a more useless family in this country. 72 days after that huge wedding? No man should ever marry her again.
Saint
congrats on your boy’s first birthday
Lol I agree Erin, I didn’t mean to rant about the one that looks like Chyna the former wrestler but I would prefer Kardashian talk to worrying about CC. At least the outcome of her failed marriage doesn’t effect us as much as CC’s (possibly) failed marriage to the Yanks.
“72 days after that huge wedding? No man should ever marry her again.”
She made $16 million off of the whole affair… If CC wants security for his family he should get a reality show when he retires!
blake – same question, though I’ve now heard people say they belive Kourtney (the one with the d-bag boyfriend) is the most sane of the group! Maybe she doesn’t want to be a single mom, who knows. I know the obvious answer to that one, but in Hollywood, sleeping with your boyfriend on a reality show, while your mother is one hotel room away, gets you props as opposed to raised eyebrows.
Tyler and Shame- yes, I would agree with that. Much less depressing.
Thanks Kate. Now you know why I haven’t been here as much this past year.
Trisha,
Is that guy the dad? She does seem the most normal I would say….Im no expert though.
Blake
I know you want to move AJ , and under the right situation I am all for it too. But at this point talking about giving kids a chance to break into the rotation is not really fair.
AJ is the only veteran SP currently signed. When and if CC signs that will still only be two veterans ( I still dont think of Phil as one). So there are plenty of open spots for rookies to break into the rotation even with AJ.
Tar,
Well we have to see what happens and who they acquire…..if they bring back CC and Garcia….plus add someone else….then they’ll have like 7 starters counting AJ and Noesi…..
Blake
That’s a Lot of if’s though. Right now like it or not, AJ is the only veteran Yankee pitcher. I really don’t see Garcia coming back either.
Like most on here I really wish they would give Joba another chance. I also think this is a make or break year for Phil and Yankees. Anyway have a great day.
Wouldn’t it be nice for the yankees to have a player that didn’t care about the money and not opt out?
I don’t know how much having a veteran around matters if they arent any good….as ling as CC is back then I don’t see AJ as a necessity as far as that goes.
blake – that guy is the dad.
Tar – I have already told blake that AJ is not to be moved.
This opt-out could mean an additional $50MM for CC.
He’s be complete moron if he didn’t use it to his advantage.
New Post: Garcia named Type B free agent
Lowe, Jiminez, Carmona, and Masterson is not a bad front 4. Kudo’s to the Indians for seizing an opportunity. And all they had to give up was an A-pitcher. Wow.
