Cano continues strong exhibition series in Taiwan

Robinson Cano doubled in today’s fourth game of the MLB exhibition tour in Taiwan.

“They’re getting better and better with each game,” Cano said. “They’re very emotional the way they play the game. They pitched very well today and they play the game the right way. That’s what I really like. They don’t take anything for granted and they do everything the right way.”

The MLB team has won every game so far, with the fifth and final game being played tomorrow. That’s the most anticipated matchup of the series, with Chien-Ming Wang getting the start for Taiwan.

Here’s the brief Associated Press account of today’s game. Click the link above for the MLB.com story.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Washington Nationals first baseman Michael Morse hit a two-run single in the sixth inning to lead the MLB All-Star team to a 3-2 win over the Taiwan national team Saturday.

Ryan Roberts of the Arizona Diamondbacks led off the inning with a walk and went to third on a double to the right-center field by Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees.

Starting pitcher Dillon Gee of the New York Mets allowed one run and five hits in five innings.

Saturday’s game in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung was the fourth of the five-game series. The MLB squad has won all four games.

Good to see the “baby M’s” performing well in the Rising Stars Game…
Hultzen with two hit-less innings and Franklin with a homer and 2doubles and 4 RBI (so far)

I mention it because I believe there was a poster here who had some connection to Nick Franklin – I just can’t remember who.
Hopefully, whoever it is, is getting to see him play tonight :)

    pgammo Peter Gammons
    Per James Handbook: fewest times P used in back-to-back games: Balt.(9), Tor.(13), Yankees(14), Angels(15), Dodgers and Royals(16)

    per B James Handbook: back-to-back relief appearances–Venters 33, O’Flaherty 30, Kimbrel 28, Bray 28. Braves 9-18 in Sept.

I imagine bard, Papelbon and Acves rank high on the bullpen abuse meter.

GB, supposedly Ravel Santana’s rehab is going well, and they expect him to have no lingering effects from the injury. Here’s hoping.

  5. GreenBeret7 November 5th, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Thanks, YankeFem. It’s his power/speed combo that helps him to stand out.

GB, yep, and he is supposed to also have a very strong arm as well. Truly 5-tool. If he isn’t ready in time, maybe I’ll get a look at him in SI, but for his sake, I hope he can start with Charleston.

I imagine that Santana gets some extended SR time and then reports to SI, unless he’s all the way back and they need an outfielder in Charleston. Same with Bichette. should be an interesting time in A ball next year.

    ****extended ST time****

Happy Sunday to all. Sherman reporting that the Mets may be looking to movehim David Wright…..looking for a defensive CF and pitching in return.

    Blake-

    Good morning.

He’s young enough that he needs to play every day @ 3rd.

Doesn’t sem like a fit for us.

I could see the Angels going after Wright.

  12. MTU November 6th, 2011 at 8:32 am

    Hey Tom

    How ya’ been ?

Angels had Beltre didn’t they ?

    Shoulda’ held onto him.

    He’s better than Wright.

    ;)

    MTU,

    Yea….he’s a K machine also.

    Tom,

    That’s the rumor….Wright for Bourjos

  14. austinmac November 6th, 2011 at 8:37 am

The Red Sox could use him, but I don’t think that they have the trade parts. No place on the Yankees.

Their are a couple articles in the NY papers about Darvish. They sense, I believe the Yankees have a big interest. I hope that is so. I believe the Nationals and Jays are the main competition as I see Wilson staying with the Rangers.

  15. blake November 6th, 2011 at 8:38 am

The Angels never had Beltre…..but they should have went after him last winter.

  16. MTU November 6th, 2011 at 8:42 am

    Blake-

My mistake. Somehow I thought they did. I’m old I get confused easily.

    :)

    Mac-

The Nats seem to like to make a splash.

Heard the Jays were in on him too.

  17. blake November 6th, 2011 at 8:46 am

I think the Yankees will window the posting on Darvish…..just a hunch. I also think Cashman is subtlety trying to drive up the price on Wilson…..Cashman never offers info without a motive behind it.

  18. blake November 6th, 2011 at 8:47 am

    MTU,

Right city….it was thefirst Dodgers ;)

  19. MTU November 6th, 2011 at 8:48 am

    Blake-

A number of people here feel that Cashman is already in stealth-mode and out hunting for a pitcher.

Do you get that impression ?

  20. blake November 6th, 2011 at 8:54 am

    MTU,

I don’t think Cash will walk away without adding a starter this winter.

Sorry for not responding yesterday. I fell asleep and by the time i got back on, you were gone. The Phillies have a lot of lower level talent in high A and AA this past year, they may not all pan out but they all will impact their future somehow. There’s Jiwan James who is an excellent outfielder, Trevor May, Jon Pettibone and Brody Colvin, 3 pitchers who were in High A this year. I’m sure there is someone I am missing.
