Posada doesn’t expect a Yankees return

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Nov 09, 2011 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I’ll have more when I get home, but Jorge Posada just told reporters that he does not expect to play for the Yankees next season. In fact, he’s ruled out the possibility of coming back
to the Bronx.

Speaking at an event for his foundation, Posada said he’s trying to decide between retirement and playing for another team. He said he’ll
always consider himself a Yankee and does not feel bitter toward Joe Girardi, Brian Cashman or the organization.

It’s too bad, I would have loved to see Posada retire as a Yank. He definitely has some gas left in the tank and the Yanks have better options already on the roster so it is probably inevitable that he signs with another team.

    Hip! Hip!

  3. kd November 9th, 2011 at 7:51 pm

i still doubt that he will want to wear another team’s uniform, like bernie.

he doesn’t need any money, i doubt 100 more hits will effect his hof chances.

the toughest thing for an longtime athlete is to call it quits. and that applies not only in the professional arena, but to the amateur. think of all the weekend warriors who push it to extremes, despite a slew of injuries.

i know, i’m not in that group, so whom am i to say. i prefer to think that it makes me objective….. ;)

    Patrick,

    Co-signed.

    Hip, hip Jorge!

Thanks for all the memories. You will always be a Yankee for us, too.

    Joe,

Being forced out by age is tough on anybody, regardless of the job. Nobody wants to believe he’s not immortal.

Wow….probably a ransom situation. Prayers to he and his family……hopefully nobody gets hurt.

venezuela is a brutal place. there have been stories, over the years, of ballplayers’ family members being kidnapped, for the ransom.

If you come around, what’s the deal?

  14. hardwired7 November 9th, 2011 at 8:22 pm

He went out with a live bat when they needed him. A damn near perfect ending, save the sixth ring and a proper Yankee Stadium sendoff.

The last #20 in a Yankees uniform.

  15. Bronx Jeers November 9th, 2011 at 8:25 pm

If Jorge wants to play for another team it’s absolutely fine with me.

But if he ends up in Boston he needs to realize that he could get booed at some point. Nothing personal there….booing the laundry is strictly a matter of business.

  16. J. Alfred Prufrock November 9th, 2011 at 8:29 pm

    He’ll not play for Boston.

hear, hear, hardwired. No one else wears No. 20 again.

Jorge wouldn’t play for Boston. Heyman speculated the Marlins but I really think he’s going to hang Uhm up….

  20. J. Alfred Prufrock November 9th, 2011 at 8:34 pm

If he still has fun playing, he should follow his heart.

Posada’s wife, Laura, chimed in when Jorge was asked about playing for a new team: “We live in Miami, so… We love Miami. Nice transition.”

Laura Posada: “I think after … he realizes how hard it is to stay home with the kids, he’s going to pay a team to have him play.”

Posada: “I will always be a Yankee. It would be tough to put on another uniform for real, to learn another set of rules and all that stuff.”

Despite all of Posada’s words, it sounds like he’s truly undecided about whether to play in ’12.

  22. RMS November 9th, 2011 at 8:46 pm

Love Posada, a fiery leader for the Yanks.
If he goes to another team, I wish him the best.

    Wtf? That’s wild.

Meanwhile, it’s good to see Posada is realistic. A great Yankee who somehow seems underrated.

He may never have worn a “:C” on his chest, but in my eyes he has been as big of a leader as anybody on the Yankees over the last 15 years.

  26. Bronx Jeers November 9th, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Secuestro express (express kidnapping) is a pretty frequent occurrence in many Latin American countries. I travel to Ecuador at least once a year and it’s not even really that safe to hail a cab.

  27. m November 9th, 2011 at 9:06 pm

I love the line by Laura that after staying home with the kids, he’ll want to pay a team to let him play.

Yes, they live in Miami, but they play in the NL. He’ll be the Jim Thome of South Beach. A man with no glove.

I don’t know why or how the word bitter came up. Is that your words, Chad? I don’t know why, but it bothers me.

  28. GreenBeret7 November 9th, 2011 at 9:12 pm

The words “no bitterness” was put forward by Posada.

  30. m November 9th, 2011 at 9:17 pm

    GB7,

Thanks. Sounds like someone from the Yankees has already informed Jorge that he won’t be asked back.

  31. REZ12 November 9th, 2011 at 9:23 pm

Jorge can still catch and play a good 1st base

Marlins can be a playoff team next year adding Reyes, CJ Wilson, and Posada

  32. cs in la November 9th, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Wouldn’t that be cool…Jorge goes to the Marlins and wins #6.

  33. GreenBeret7 November 9th, 2011 at 9:30 pm

    M,

Cashman says he hasn’t talked with Posada since the end of the season, but, likely Posada saw the writing on the wall. He knows that Montero will be at least the hitter and defensive catcher that Posada was back in his hey day.

  34. Ghostwriter November 9th, 2011 at 9:31 pm

I hope Jorge hangs them up. I hate the idea of seeing him in another uniform. And the man has nothing left to prove. There is a lot to be said for riding off into the sunset on your own terms with no regrets and no looking back–ask Mussina. All this having been said, I fully expect Posada to come back with another club next year, because he strikes me as being too darn stubborn to walk away now…

  35. RadioKev November 9th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Had Mussina not rode off into the sun he probably would have won a World Series. The temptations..

Translation: Posada is pissed. I’m sure that he would love nothing more than to shove it up Cashman’s and Girardi’s asses in the 2012 WS as a member of the Marlins.

I was a huge Moose fan, but that guy had the worst luck: He just missed two perfect games, a World Series, and possibly his (rightful) induction into the HoF. I’m not convince the that the Yanks would have won the 2009 WS if he had hung around–YS probably would have gotten hit by a comet in the ninth inning of game seven, or something. :)

Wow LGY. Pretty amazing. But if so it’s the right thing to do. Penn State is sh*t at this point – and I don’t mean the football team. Sad for the innocent people who are being affected by this. Not at all sad for the aholes whom I wish were the ones pinned against the wall with a bar of soa. Maybe they will be.

  54. trisha - true pinstriped blue November 9th, 2011 at 10:03 pm

I’ll tell you that the overwhelming sentiment from everything I was hearing was that he shouldn’t have been able to coach Saturday.

  55. Ghostwriter November 9th, 2011 at 10:07 pm

It was probably the right thing to do. He should have offered his resignation this morning. It’s still sad, and sad that it was necessary…

Penn St. Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno will not coach another game, according to Jim Gardner of ABC’s affiliate on the scene of Wednesday night’s board of trustees meeting. Tom Bradley will take over as Penn State’s interim coach, according to Gardner.

Joe Paterno Fired By Penn State Board Of Trustees, According To Report

  61. trisha - true pinstriped blue November 9th, 2011 at 10:16 pm

    Wow.

    Fired. Joe Paterno.

The trustees obviously feel that he totally abdicated his responsibility for them to not even let him finish out the season. Paterno is still god, so you know how phenomenally serious this all was.

News conference said they did it based on all of the information they garnered.

  62. blake November 9th, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Still would like to know how many Trustees knew as much about this as Paterno did.

  63. trisha - true pinstriped blue November 9th, 2011 at 10:19 pm

    President jettisoned also.

blake – a skeptical person could think that the trustees got rid of Paterno and Spanier as part of a smoke screen so that nobody would start asking questions about whether or not they had knowledge.

I’m seriously not positing they did, since I truly don’t know anything about their info or involvement.
