Santo elected to Hall of Fame

The Golden Era committee has elected Ron Santo into baseball’s Hall of Fame. For a lot of fans, this has been a long time coming. Santo is the 12th third baseman ever elected to the Hall, and his election came in a landslide, getting 15 of 16 votes from the committee.

Of the other candidates on the Golden Era ballot, Jim Kaat was next closest to election. He got 10 votes and needed 12 for election. Former Yankees starter Allie Reynolds received fewer than three votes.

Another reminder, I’m hosting a chat at noon. Hope to see you in about a half an hour.

For those who were too young to see Ron Santo play, he was a marvelous ballplayer……..This recognition is way over due…..

    repost:

Hi comet, so nice to see you! I’m the one who hasn’t been around so much but I always like seeing you around these parts. :)

About the missing regulars. I can tell you that it was the work of the forum stalker that finally caused all of those people to leave. I and a few others have braved it back but I don’t blame them for staying away. You can never assume it’s totally safe around here since just a short while ago I noticed someone posting and once again providing personal information about me, albeit incorrect information. I can only imagine that the person in question is never going to totally retreat and that when he is going through some down period in his life will emerge and lash out. Having been the victim of that person on many many occasions, I can tell you that it is no fun. And despite promises from that person that he will never violate my privacy again, he comes back and attempts it again and again. So I can only figure that his problems are much bigger than he is. And you can never know when he is going to show up and attack. I suppose I’m being blamed for the Yankees not making it out of round 1…

Lohud can only do something about it after it happens as the person apparently uses different computers and hides his true IP address. So they don’t know until it is too late, each time.

I asked one of the former posters if she was willing to come back and she told me she had no desire to be here and didn’t miss it at all. That was totally from what she went through at the hands of the stalker.

Ron Santo finally gets in exactly 1 year after he passed away. It should never have taken that long. Jim Kaat missed by 2 votes.

Sad that Ron Santo can’t bask in the moment on earth. Should have had his due 10 years ago.

Really happy for Santo’s family……now perhaps the folks who didn’t vote for him when he was alive can explain why they think he’s a HOFer now and why they robbed him of enjoying if before he died.

hopefully Kaat gets in while he is till with us…still miss him in the broadcast booth

Hi Trisha! Good to see you as well.

I’m disappointed that the poster doesn’t miss things here at all. No doubt the rest of us miss the contribution they made here.

I’m aware of how the stalker destroyed the board!! I’m really glad that a few of the victims stuck it out.

I have a Yahoo dedicated to Baseball and Yankee baseball only and wonder if that might be an alternative. It is a closed group and by invite only. Any thoughts?

Joelsherman1 Oswalt camp waiting for CJ, Buerhle to sign to see exact market, most teams see Oswalt as fallback option. #Nationals #Marlins

eboland11 Brian Cashman scheduled to take off for Dallas in the next hour. #happyholidays

If these guys are gonna put 3B Santo in the HOF, then Yankee 3B Graig Nettles deserves a serious look. Nettles certainly played longer than Santo, but his numbers do stack up favorably with Santo’s, and the numbers say nothing about Nettles and that glove of his. Both are certainly excellent players, but if I’m in the schoolyard pickin’ teams, I choose Nettles ahead of Santo to be my 3B.

Ron Santo should have gotten in the on the writers ballot.

Comet, I think that some of the regulars who left felt so battered by the stalker’s nastiness that it’s the only thing they can think about/remember when they think about lohud. I wish that the regulars would come back, too, but I understand any skitterishness they might be feeling.

I think the Yahoo thing is a great idea. I’ve lost touch with the group but maybe anyone who has stayed in touch can mention it to them. I know that they had formed a group of their own at one point but am not sure if that is still alive and well.
