lol, funny how my Darvish nude post got out of hand (no pun intended!).

For the record, I read that Darvish was not 100% nude (visible), he had his “bits” strategically covered. So I don’t think it’s a big deal. At least he was not kissing himself in a mirror, ha ha.

And I only posted that as one example of how I don’t think he’s some shy guy who would be devastated by the American press.

  2. Benny Blanco December 8th, 2011 at 9:29 pm

    Blake,

Jordan won six titles with Cartgwright, Will perdue and Luc Longley as his center. He also had Armstrong/kerr and paxon as his PG. ‘s

  3. blake December 8th, 2011 at 9:31 pm

    Benny,

    That was Jordan though…..

  4. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Hahaha. Mark Cuban was one of the most vocal owners in getting Stern to block the trade. Guy is nothing if not committed.

  5. Pat M. December 8th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Owners are pissed that The LA Lakers announced their 5 billion 25 year local tv deal a few days after the lockout ended……

  6. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 9:37 pm

Roethlisberger out of the game in the 2nd quarter with an ankle injury. helped to the dressing room.

  7. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 9:39 pm

This is seriously f’d up and I’m not even a Lakers fan How do you let the trade progress like this and then step in at the last minute? They had months during the lockout to discuss how to handle when Paul inevitably asked to be traded from the league owned Hornets.

I was actually getting excited to see the black mamba and CP3 play together.

  8. Melk Man December 8th, 2011 at 9:39 pm

So how can the league now justify trading Paul ANYWHERE? The offer from the Lakers was decent, probably about as good as possible for a guy who isn’t going to sign an extension officially.

There is already talk that the Celtics are back in play… the league can’t nix the Lakers deal and then turn around and give him to the Celtics, can they? Certainly not the Knicks unfortunately.

And if he’s stuck in NO for the year, he is certainly reaching FA which means the Knicks now have to decide if they want to back out of Chandler. Fascinating stuff.

  9. ET December 8th, 2011 at 9:43 pm

The owners had to be fuming though, the second that the CBA was reached, all the talk was about all the big market teams going for Deron, Dwight, CP3, Chandler, all the role players, etc. Why did the owners even lock the players out for 6 months if things would just be status quo when the lockout ended and there was still the pronounced big vs. small market divide?

Stern is in a tough spot. He wants the big markets to succeed for the ratings, revenue, overall popularity, etc. but he has to look out for the small markets and he owners who he works for.

  10. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 9:50 pm

There are going to be some unhappy players headed to training camp tomorrow.

  11. blake December 8th, 2011 at 9:53 pm

“Stern is in a tough spot. He wants the big markets to succeed for the ratings, revenue, overall popularity, etc. but he has to look out for the small markets and he owners who he works for.”

thus is life in a sport with no real minor leagues and no real player development process…….everyone knows who the good players are and it’s just a musical chairs situation to get them together on teams.

  12. Melkmanisinhotlanta December 8th, 2011 at 10:09 pm

Yanks win AL East in 2012. None of the other teams has improved to take the AL East Champs down. The key is Jesus. He is a game changer imo. If he’s hot in October, WS here we come!

  13. Melkmanisinhotlanta December 8th, 2011 at 10:10 pm

Sox are done without Paps. Good luck with that bull pen lol.

  14. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 10:14 pm

Sox will be fine. Aceves can start and close. This is his moment.

  15. DocTodd December 8th, 2011 at 10:21 pm

Aceves can start, close and sell beer and hot dogs too!

  16. J. Alfred Prufrock December 8th, 2011 at 10:21 pm

  18. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

The hot dogs will probably disintegrate in Ace’s hands with the way that guy sweats.

    @RealLamarOdom LAMAR ODOM
When a team trades u and it doesn’t go down? Now what?

  20. blake December 8th, 2011 at 10:35 pm

Mariner nation not feeling so great right now.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.c.....marin.html

And if you believe Fielder brings you closer to a winning team, then that has to be factored in to any analysis. And if you don’t believe this team can contend within the next two years, that’s OK. Doesn’t make you “dumb”. You may even be “smarter” than the rest of us. But then, you have to tell us what your plan is for Felix Hernandez, who will be nearly a $20-million pitcher this coming season.

You can’t have it both ways. That isn’t “smart”. That’s just being overly conservative. To the point where it may harm your team.

Because having a staff ace making $20 million for an 80-win team is not “smart” when you can deal him for four or five players this second and watch them grow until they can help you whenever that window arrives.

But whichever way you go, the time for skittishness is done.

This Pujols signing has to be a wakeup call.

The Mariners are not the Orioles or Blue Jays just yet. But “staying the course” right now could lead to an eight-or-10-year, Toronto-style rebuilding plan just as easily as it could bring any success.

  21. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 10:38 pm

“When a team trades u and it doesn’t go down? Now what?”

It’s kind of like when things don’t work out with a Kardashian. Move on to the next one.

Rumblings here that Kuroda may be signed by the Yankees. Not confirmed.

  23. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 10:41 pm

“Mariner nation not feeling so great right now.”

Have all 30 of the Jack Z entourage gotten back to Seattle yet?

Did they do anything at the meetings? Must have been an intense Rule 5 War Room.

Sushi and sapporo parties in the clubhouse?

At least it’s more classy than fried chicken and bud light.

  26. blake December 8th, 2011 at 10:44 pm

If the Yankees sign Kuroda it suggests 2 things……1)Cashman hates the trade market and doesn’t see it changing 2) AJ is getting traded.

  27. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 10:46 pm

    @YankeeSource
I literally laughed out loud when I heard about Joel Sherman’s theory on Nakajima’s urge to play for Boston. #madenosense

  28. blake December 8th, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Everybody wants to play for Boston….who doesn’t like fried chicken and beer?

  29. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 10:48 pm

That was just a rally sake.

  30. Pat M. December 8th, 2011 at 10:55 pm

If The Mariners were to listen to trade offers for Felix, what kind of package do you think Cashman would open up with to start the conversation ??? The price tag would be sticker shock I have to think…..

  31. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 10:57 pm

    Montero, Betances, Nunez?

  32. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 10:58 pm

    Build a package around Nakajima.

  33. m December 8th, 2011 at 10:58 pm

I go out for a couple of hours, and I get home to some shocking news. Gotta tell you, Pat M., I feel relief.

This is not a protect the Hornets kind of decision. If anything, it was good for them knowing that CP3 was good as gone.

So, he can only go to the Mavs or a sucky team?

Pat M, gotta say I feel relief.

  34. blake December 8th, 2011 at 10:58 pm

“If The Mariners were to listen to trade offers for Felix, what kind of package do you think Cashman would open up with to start the conversation ??? ”

Probably more than some Lohudders would approve of…..maybe more than I would approve of. Probably would take Montero, Betances, Banuelos and more given the competition there would be for him.

  35. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 11:00 pm

That rumbling is nothing more than gas. Just like Loser and his “inside info”, nobody has come close to hearing those rumblings.

  36. ron December 8th, 2011 at 11:04 pm

I would not trade montero, betances, and banuelos for king felix now.

  37. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:07 pm

That’s because he’s a scout in Japan. He usually has good info about stuff going on over there. Don’t get why you get so worked up everytime someone shares some info.

  38. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:09 pm

“I would not trade montero, betances, and banuelos for king felix now.”

I would trade any 4 not named Montero for Felix…….I just really don’t want to trade him at all.

  39. RadioKev December 8th, 2011 at 11:11 pm

Man, it would be painful to give up Montero for Felix at this point. Thank God I’m not the GM.

  40. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:12 pm

I would think if Cashman had a realistic shot at Felix his primary goal would be to keep Banuelos out of it b/c it would have to include Montero.

  46. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:17 pm

    @YankeeSource
@nyybrandonc Honestly it could be one of those rumors, a few baseball people here (from Carp) said it so that’s why I took it seriously.

    @YankeeSource
@nyybrandonc The Hiroshima Carp scouts said the Yankees were negotiating with his agent (made a good offer). Carp also like Kuroda a lot.

    @YankeeSource
@nyybrandonc Somewhat, they usually don’t talk unless there is something to talk about. So it’s probably true Yankees made an offer.

  47. Pat M. December 8th, 2011 at 11:19 pm

I would want to keep Manny B also…..GB, who is this person who has you so ticked off ????

  48. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:21 pm

Oh I’d want to keep Manny B too….but you aint getting Felix without it hurtin a lot…..maybe hurtin more than it’s worth

  49. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 11:22 pm

Pat, not ticked off. just don’t have any use for bogus info being spread.

  50. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:24 pm

Reynolds did a projected lineup for the Angels next year…..it’s still kinda eh even with Albert…..he’s unreal but the rest still isn’t all that great……however they won’t need to score a ton most nights with that rotation depth.

  51. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:24 pm

Yankees first homestand of 2012 is against……the LA Pujols’s !

  52. Pat M. December 8th, 2011 at 11:25 pm

    blake…..CC & Felix , think Johnson & Schillling

  53. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:27 pm

    “blake…..CC & Felix , think Johnson & Schillling”

yea I know I know…..if they do shop him at some point (and they really should because they aren’t winning in that division anytime soon) I’m glad I don’t have to make the decision of how far to go for him.

  54. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:27 pm

If the Yankees got Nakajima, Darvish, and Kuroda all in one offseason would Face’s head explode?

  55. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 11:28 pm

Angels would have been a lot better using that Pujols money on a third baseman and a better closer than what they have and still had a few bushels of dollars left over. Until they get over those two corner outfield contracts, they’re going to be hamstrung.

  56. Jerkface December 8th, 2011 at 11:28 pm

I’d pop a bottle of plum wine.

  57. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:32 pm

without the Wells trade the Angels would still have Napoli and would have more than enough cash to pursue Aramis and whatever else they needed…….Dipoto probably wishes he had gotten the job a year sooner.

  58. Nick in SF December 8th, 2011 at 11:33 pm

I will have a ramen dinner for each Japanese player we sign.

    Maybe two for Yu.

  59. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:35 pm

    Pat

What do you think of the Knicks signing Tyson Chandler?

  60. Yankee Trader December 8th, 2011 at 11:36 pm

Giving some gas to the Kuroda rumor from a favorite Japanese rumor site:

12/9/2011: Hideki Matsui, Hiroki Kuroda, Koji Uehara

by Gen on Dec.09, 2011 @ 11:21 am, under MLB

Nikkan Sports mentions that the Baltimore Orioles may be interested in Hideki Matsui.

    ===

Sponichi mentions that the New York Yankees offered Hiroki Kuroda an offer said to be worth around US$12M year.

    http://yakyubaka.com/tag/hiroki-kuroda/

  61. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:37 pm

if the marlins had given Albert the no trade you have to wonder if he would have gone there? I’m still kinda surprised he didn’t given the 20 million more dollars, the tax situation, and the geography………27.5 million a year is pretty much all the no trade clause you need.

  62. randy l. December 8th, 2011 at 11:37 pm

“.GB, who is this person who has you so ticked off ????”

    pat m-

how can you tell when gb7 is ticked off?
    he’s always ticked off.

of course anyone who spells as bad as he does probably gets frustrated with all this typing.

  63. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:40 pm

    KURODA!

    Thanks for the info Trader.

  64. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:40 pm

how do you find this stuff Trader? ;)

  65. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 11:42 pm

The Yankees don’t need another costly, aging right hander. They didn’t do much this winter (so far) because there was nothing worth the cost. Wilson is shooting his mouth off because the Yankees and other big moneied teams didn’t chase him. The only reason he wanted the Yanks involved was to keep driving the price. If he wanted NY so bad, he and his agent wouldn’t have spewed out the terms they wanted from NY. He isn’t a $15-$18 mil a year pitcher.

  66. randy l. December 8th, 2011 at 11:42 pm

    ????????????????????????????????????????????

  67. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:44 pm

    But Burnett and Lackey are?

If CJ pitches like he did the last two years he is well worth that AAV. The problem with him was always the years.

  71. Yankee Trader December 8th, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Last I read the Diamondbacks were actively pursuing Kuroda and were planning to fly him out to Phoenix. There was a rumor of Kuroda wanting a player option on a 2nd year.

I’ll have to call P or whatever that psansts name was to verify :)

    Blake-
    I’m the Prophet, remember.
Try to google yakyubakaYu Darvish when you want the latest on him, or Hiroki Kuroda for his latest, etc

  72. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:48 pm

I still think the Rangers are playing possum on Fielder…..

  73. GreenBeret7 December 8th, 2011 at 11:48 pm

Hey Stupid…I never said they were $15-18 Mil a year pitchers. NY has Burnett for two years at the most. Why get back into the same situation with Wilson?

  77. m December 8th, 2011 at 11:54 pm

Maybe the Yankees delay their super-secret bid until the last possible moment, hoping to get something done with Kuroda? He would be the perfect stop-gap.

  78. LGY December 8th, 2011 at 11:55 pm

    Pat

Yeah. They need to get a PG. I assume they have something lined up to obtain one once the Chandler deal goes through. If it’s a trade, I just hope they hold onto Fields.

    Blake-
I think Pujols took the Angels offer so that he could spend the latter years as a DH. Any word on the exact breakdown of the contract?

Fielder if guaranteed to play 1B might come to AL, but my guess is the Cubs or surprisingly the Cardinals

  81. blake December 8th, 2011 at 11:57 pm

“I think Pujols took the Angels offer so that he could spend the latter years as a DH. Any word on the exact breakdown of the contract?”

maybe….I don’t think the details of the contract have been released yet. I think Fielder makes a ton of sense for the Rangers……he’d be a 50 homer threat in that ballpark and he’d also give them leverage against Hamilton next winter…..

    night

  83. Yankee Trader December 9th, 2011 at 12:00 am

Night all and yu too Blake.

  84. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 12:01 am

    Pat,

don’t see the reason to be drooling over every hooker in spikes walking down the street. It’s time to let the kids play and see what they do. They won the division by a lot and nobody improved to top them. NYY starts next year with a healthy Rodriguez and Hughes and only lost Colon (so far) as a significant piece. Boston gets back a healthy Youkilis and Buchholz. They lose the “heart and soul” of the team in Veritek and Wakefield. Maybe unloading them will make up the 8 game difference.

The Yanks don’t need every team’s star. they have some impressive players on the way. Keep in mind that the Yanks didn’t start getting serious about the farm until about 4 years ago. They’re just no getting ready to start producing. Not all of them, but, the ones that are going to be important down the road. Pitching, catchers. The next wave includes strength up the middle.

  85. randy l. December 9th, 2011 at 12:07 am

    i agree with gb7
the league is so diluted the yankees don’t need to do much to stay ahead of everyone else.
why not go with their own players until some team proves to them that they need to spend big ?

lay in the weeds with a whole lot of cash.

  86. jacksquat December 9th, 2011 at 12:11 am

Signing Kuroda would make me suspect they aren’t going after Yu (not because they are both Japanese). And I think Kuroda becomes a 4+ ERA pitcher in the AL East.

  87. LGY December 9th, 2011 at 12:16 am

Kuroda’s stats were pretty similar to Matt Cain’s last year pitching in the same division…

  88. Bo knows December 9th, 2011 at 12:16 am

Kuroda makes a lot of sense for a one year contract. What the Yankees need is a time frame to sort out what they have in the young pitching. The TD is there as a backup. There’s the old axiom – Use em or lose em.

  89. LGY December 9th, 2011 at 12:18 am

And it’s not like Kuroda is so old soft tosser.

His average fastball was 92 MPH. He’s old but he still has a lot of juice in that arm.

  90. Bo knows December 9th, 2011 at 12:21 am

I’m not saying he sucks, but I’ll stick with my prediction. I’d rather have him than AJ, and for 1 or 2 years it’s not a big deal, I’m just not that excited about him. I don’t think he’s a clear “#2″ on the Yankees if that’s what you are looking for.

  92. Pat M. December 9th, 2011 at 12:24 am

jacksquat…….I must have seen Kuroda pitch at least 12 games last season and the guy has above average stuff and knows how to pitch…..If this proves to be true about him coming to The Bronx it seems to me that either Burnett is gone or they have no intention of laying out 100 = plus million for Yu…..GB, I think Cashman is looking to buy a year until the 2 B boys are that much closer……Now it’s time to upgrade the outfield…..

  93. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 12:24 am

verducci is an idiot. Sucking up to Wilson and talking about his “long, great history” with the Rangers. The guy was a 23rd or 24th man on the team as a bullpenner for 5 years. He’s been a starter for 2 years. That’s not exactly long and great.

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert called the Lakers’ trade for Chris Paul a “travesty” in email to David Stern. Complete email: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/ne.....ade_120811

  98. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 12:33 am

Pat, it’s the outfield that’s really thin and that’s where the money needs to go. There are two Cuban outfielders that, if one hits, it settles a spot in one of the corners for a few years until they find out whether Mason Williams is ready (if he is), along with a couple of others. again, not all are going to stick, but at least a couple should. It’s also time to start repositioning some of these excess catchers like Murphy or moving either Joseph or adams to the outfield. 2nd base is occupied right now and neither plays shortstop and are not that good at third. Move ‘em or trade ‘em. Third base has 2 young kids in Bichette and Tyler Austin. Like Rob Segedin’s bat, but, ugly defense at 1st and 3rd. Playing pretty well in left field with a strong accurate arm, but, most likely trade fodder.

  99. m December 9th, 2011 at 12:38 am

An executive who knows Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine says he’s very high on Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman’s source expects Nakajima to reject the Yankees’ attempts to sign him, play in Japan for 2012, and sign with the Red Sox as a free agent.

If the Sox wanted him so badly (do they?), they couldn’t outbid $2M? That’s a strange rumor to be floating around, 1 day after the bid was accepted.

I’ll take your word for it, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if his ERA is 4ish. That’s not bad and I’m not opposed to 1 year 12m other than it probably means no Yu. Maybe they are positioning themselves to go large on Hamels next year.

GB, when all this started about allocating money to buy itnernational players I posted how I rather the Yanks grab both of the Cuban outfielders…….I think the Yu kid has some great possibilities but I still think it’s going to cost much more that Dice K did and for me that’s just too much for a unproven pitcher who has never pitched ve the best hitters and lineups……It seems that only 1 in 20 here see it that way though……

  107. jacksquat December 9th, 2011 at 12:52 am

Well, the Cuban outfielders are largely unproven also, I’d say much more than Darvish. And Cespedes apparently wants 50 or 60+ mil to sign. I’d stay away from that. Perhaps the other one if he costs a lot less.

  108. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 12:52 am

    Pat,

Carig agrees that Darvish will cost north of $100 mil to sign. That’s too steep. Could he be good? Possibly or even probably. Young, good arms is not a real need right now. Outfield bats that can chase flies is.

  109. Patrick December 9th, 2011 at 12:53 am

Good. Sign Kuroda, sign Darvish. Trade Burnett (or cut him who cares), put Hughes in the bullpen.

Sabathia, Darvish, Kuroda, Nova, Garcia is a pretty sweet rotation.

Young good arms which can throw 200 IP are not bountiful in our system.

They aren’t bountiful in any system which is why Darvish is such a unique opportunity. You could potentially be getting a ready made ace in the prime of his career.

  113. Pat M. December 9th, 2011 at 12:58 am

Wouldn’t mind Kuroda for 1 year, though I am concerned about the switch from NL to AL. Probably adds 1 point to his ERA.

But can Cashman actually find a taker for AJ or is he serious that he really wants Noesi in the rotation? Big change from the Hughes/Joba rotation/bullpen saga.

  115. Nick in SF December 9th, 2011 at 1:03 am

Selig shouldn’t let the Darvish posting continue while Dr. Buss is in the hospital.

  116. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 1:03 am

At least with Cespedes, the Yanks would know up front how much he’ll cost before buying in. If the Yanks make a winning bid, then they have to agree on a contract. $60 mil and $15-$20 mil for the other outfielder, Jorge Soler for real needs are a lot better than $100+ mil for something they could have already.

Article on Japanese Yahoo re: Darvish

    http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/h.....annex-base

Darvish doesn’t like that the posting system restricts player salaries as MLB teams will consider the posting fee part of the cost of the player. Executive expects the negotiations to open around 8 million per year. Mentions iwakuma going back to Japan because there is a view that american baseball salaries measure the worth of a player and the Athletics did not give a sufficient offer to Iwakuma. Darvish camp might seek 20 million total per year (including bid? 5/100?)

  122. m December 9th, 2011 at 1:14 am

    So…about $150M?

  123. jacksquat December 9th, 2011 at 1:15 am

No, the 20m/yr is including the posting fee.

  124. m December 9th, 2011 at 1:19 am

    20×5=$100M already.

    Unless it’s (20×3)+40 Which I doubt.

  125. Pat M. December 9th, 2011 at 1:20 am

Don’t be naive Yu is going to expect to get 12-15 million per season, if not more……

  126. jacksquat December 9th, 2011 at 1:21 am

No, it’s 20 mil /year total. So something like 50 mil posting fee + 50 mil contract for 5 years.

  127. m December 9th, 2011 at 1:23 am

OHHHH. I get it. $10M per. Sounds a little low…for a potential ace

  128. DaSaint007 December 9th, 2011 at 1:23 am

I’d be surprised if the Yankees bid more than $30-$40M for Darvish. And even then, if they win he posting, they’ll probably offer a 5/50 contract, which he’ll probably turn down.

No harm, no foul. Yankees get their money back, and go out and spend a $12M on Kuroda for a year, and maybe add one of the Cuban outfielders, maybe trade Swisher to Atlanta for JJ, ship Noesi to AAA to get his innings up or trade him to Atlanta in the package.

    CC, AJ, Kuroda, Hughes, Nova

I don’t think so. But if he does while the posting fee was around 50 mil then I think he pitches in Japan next year.

  130. Nick in SF December 9th, 2011 at 1:28 am

  131. Jerkface December 9th, 2011 at 1:30 am

Yu made $6 million this season? What will he make next year if he stays in Japan?

    6 to 8 million

  132. jacksquat December 9th, 2011 at 1:30 am

Probably only 7-8 next year. Which is why I don’t know what these recent posters are thinking. $10m/yr would be a significant raise from what he got in Japan. Japanese players understand that a large posting fee lowers their potential contract, that’s why they don’t like the posting system.

  133. DaSaint007 December 9th, 2011 at 1:32 am

I’m thinking of too many possibilities…let me just allow Cashman to do his job.
As of now, I’m ok going to battle in ST with CC and AJ, followed by Garcia, Nova, Hughes and Noesi fighting over the remaining 3 spots. And I’m ok with this because…

    1. boston got no better.
    2. Tampa Bay thus far hasn’t changed much.
    3. Toronto hasn’t improved.
    4. Buck is pitching and managing in Baltimore.
    5. We have starting pitching depth in AAA: Mitchell, Warren, Phelps, Banuelos, and Betances.
    6. We have the best bullpen in Mariano, Robertson, Soriano, Wade, and Joba (midseason)

  134. m December 9th, 2011 at 1:33 am

$10M would be a nice little raise. I understand the luxury tax exemption, but that’s still about $20M a year for the guy. Puts into into a different frame of reference.

unless the yankees are selling Vazquez to a Japanese team, he’s still under contract to the Yankees.

  138. Nick in SF December 9th, 2011 at 1:41 am

Yu has the whole winter to develop of Gyro Ball. He’ll be worth more than Daisuke.

  139. Pat M. December 9th, 2011 at 2:13 am

Nick in SF…..And he’ll cost way more and there lies the rub…..

  140. Nick in SF December 9th, 2011 at 2:25 am

How much more??? If he’s better, he’s worth more, no?

I do not pretend to know what the Yanks will do about this, but if they decide they want Yu, it makes sense to think that they’ll be methodical, just as they’ve been in other recent cases, and identify a number that makes sense for them and bid that amount. If they get outbid, oh well. If they win, they can talk to Yu and again they’ll have a salary limit in mind.

This is a fascinating topic for me. High risk, high reward, so many tricky variables. Yu could be a young dynamo. Yu could be a huge bust. Or something in between.

We do know that Cashman likes to bag the big game from time to time. Here’s a chance to do so without paying big game luxyry tax. Exciting stuff.

  141. Nick in SF December 9th, 2011 at 2:26 am

I’m very surprised by Cashman’s comments. Talk about the credit crunch, we’re that worried about our payroll flexibility?

I really think the Igawa-Darvish comparisons are superfluous. Darvish is much better than Igawa and our scouting and evaluation of Japanese talent has improvement. You can’t be gun shy because of one guy when you’re the Yankees.

  147. MTU December 9th, 2011 at 7:22 am

    Good Morning

I don’t really care what the Yankees do on Yu-turn.

If they think he is worth Dice-bb money (or more) that’s their call.

They make their bed they lie in it either way.

I do not know much about Kuroded but at his age and coming over from the NL I really can’t get too excited about it.

I still prefer a lefty for our rotation. Even if it has to be thru trade.

It also makes sense to add one or both of the Cuban OF’er’s. Soler will be cheaper but the other one is near ML ready.

As GB points out we are thin at OF. Not so thin at P.

Do we get the Japanese SS or does he return to Nippon ?

So many questions so few answers.

    ;)

  148. RadioKev December 9th, 2011 at 7:26 am

I’m also not inspired by Kuroda. Seems like a depth move. Would you be that confident in his powers to trade away AJ? That confident that Noesi can handle the majors this season?

I mean, in all likelihood, probably. They did get that good post season start out of AJ. Maybe there was a break thru.

    What do you mean?

  151. MTU December 9th, 2011 at 7:34 am

    Kev-

For me AJ is a separate matter. He is not even a replacement level pitcher.

The only breakthrough that is going to happen for AJ is when he falls thru the thin ice he has been on for a while.

I want a lefty to fill out our rotation. One that is proven and is at least #3 level.

Buerhle would have been a great fill in at the right price but the Fish overpaid to get him.

That leaves guys like Danks and GG. Of the 2 I prefer Danks because I think KW will be more reasonable to trade with and I like the fact that Danks throws harder.

If the Yankees think they have a real shot at Hamels next year they need to prepare for that now.

I also think we should beef up our stable of OF prospects by signing at least one of the Cubans.

  152. MTU December 9th, 2011 at 7:36 am

And if Naky can be had at a reasonable price I favor that too because it might free up Nunez for trade.

I believe a number of teams are interested in Nunez.

  153. RadioKev December 9th, 2011 at 7:42 am

Well all I’m saying is signing Kuroda(if that report is true) seems more like a depth move. I’m not sure how much we can rely on him in the AL East.

That would give us 7 pitchers for the rotation. I’ll bet we’ll have to wait and see with the Darvish bid before we make some trades.

  154. jskwrite December 9th, 2011 at 7:42 am

The pitching still scares me a bit – a lot “broke right” with Colon in the first half being a #2, Garcia being solid. I don’t think you can expect Nova to win this many games in 2012. We can’t just say “boston and tampa did nothing” – tampa still has a couple more in the pipeline that are going to have more experience and be better this year (Moore?) – they will be better next year – rotation is getting “scary”. As for Boston, I don’t think they are done with that roster. They can’t afford a third straight year out of the playoffs. Improvements will be made. I know their upper level minors are bad but they’ve been legendary in getting teams to take lesser prospects in trades. If Boston doesn’t improve, I still think the wild card may not be coming out of the East this year. Angels pitching plus all those extra games vs. subpar oakland and seattle could have a better record than second place in east (assuming Texas wins).

  155. MTU December 9th, 2011 at 7:42 am

We have lots of potential trade pieces.

The only guys I really do not want to trade are Montero and Banuelos.

I’d even consider trading GGBG and Hughes.

    ==========================

I’d guess without a regular job waiting for him, he returns to Japan.

  158. RadioKev December 9th, 2011 at 7:51 am

I think trading Hughes is pretty unhelpful. Right now this rotation is depending quite a bit on him. If you trade him you need a reliably better starter. I don’t think Danks of Gonzalez qualify as reliably better than Hughes.

  159. Gary December 9th, 2011 at 7:53 am

Morning guys, I got my 4 tickets yesterday for the March 25th game vrs Detroit at Steinbrenner Field. Took the better part of the afternoon and about 5 mail notes with Ticketmaster to get it done.

Taking a day or more off of the this and that. Until we get some clarity that Cashman is either postering for the benefit of other clubs, or that he truely is dug in on the staying pat notion all of this stuff is academic. I guess we get our next data point on the Yu posting derby.

Pittsburg looked good last night, Big Ben is a warrior. Guy probably didn’t get any sleep as that ankle must have been really uncomfortable.

  160. MTU December 9th, 2011 at 7:58 am

    Kev-

I do not agree. Danks is way more reliable. He has thrown 200 innings quite a bit over the last several years. he throws hard. i would not underestimate what he could do on the Yanks. If Hughes
falters again this year (I don’t think he will) his trade value goes into minus territory.

Don’t get me wrong. I still like Phil. I could see a lateral swap of Hughes + for Danks so that we get a
    decent young lefty.

I’d love to pry away Prado and one of their young lefty relievers from the Braves.

If Nunez became expendable that might facilitate things in that direction.

Nova has shown to be a tough kid who has improved since the first day he stepped on the mound for the Yankees.

Don’t get me wrong. I still like Phil. I could see a lateral swap of Hughes + for Danks so that we get a
    decent young lefty.

I wouldn’t declare Danks undeniably better than Phil Hughes. They’re both coming off of down years. Hughes is a year younger. Hughes has two more years of control, and Danks only has one. If it’s an upgrade, it’s not significant enough in my opinion. I also imagine the Yankees would rather just stick with the guy they know.

Now gaining Danks and not trading Hughes is another issue.

There’s also no Twitter account under the name “YankeeSource”.

Yes, I made him up and provided an imaginary link for m leading directly to his account last night. Diabolical!

    Kev-

It was jsut an idea that I was not that storngly behind because I do believe Phil will bounce back in a big way.

I just think another solid lefty would also be an improvement.

I agree. I would like to have both ideally. I’m kind of hoping that’s how it works out.

    ;)

Of course I prefer Kershaw, Price, or Moore.

    But I can’t have them.

Didnt Heyman Tweet on Wednesday night that Burnett was going to be traded soon – possibly to a team out west?

I thought it was weird watching the YES broadcast of Yankees Baseball Daily last night where Heyman was on the show for the entire hour and made no mention of this “inside information” he previously reported when the subject was on what potential moves the Yankees might make now that the Winter Meetings were ending.

of course I want(ed) Garza and Buehrle, but no one listens to me either MTU :)

Guess we are on Darvish watch until further notice.

I wish Erica was here to provide us with an accurate countdown.

But. She is either in atlantic City, playing scrabble with her Dad, working herself to death, or chasing down a cabana boy somewhere in the Caribbean.

Personally, for her sake, I hope it’s the last one.

    :)

    Kate-

That seems to be our fate.

In your case you don’t deserve it. In my mine I undersatnd.

Think I’ll take the UNDER on that one.

  186. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 8:56 am

The Burnett remarks were supplied by Loser. Strange that there’s not a peep from anybody about it.

  187. GreenBeret7 December 9th, 2011 at 8:59 am

Bonds has already been found guilty of Obstruction Of Justice. If he only gets 90-180 days, I’m satisfied.

  188. dogface December 9th, 2011 at 9:00 am

Isn’t true that Burnett has always favored the east coast? Probably not unreasonable to think that the teams listed on his limted no-trade would include most of those west of the Mississippi.
