Infielders, starting pitchers and a reliever

Just a few quick notes…

The Yankees have agreed to terms with reliever Cory Wade on a deal that will paying him a little more than $500,000. He’s not yet eligible for arbitration, so Wade wasn’t in line to make much more than the minimum. He proved a valuable pickup last year and should serve the same middle-innings role this year.

Jon Heyman took a look at the free agent infield market, including Yankees target Eric Chavez. Heyman makes note of eight infielders still one the market, and says there are at least six teams — maybe more — still looking for an infielder to play some sort of secondary role.

The free agent starting pitcher market still has low-cost options available. The New York Times takes a look at some of the names that might make sense for the Yankees, including one of last year’s surprises, Bartolo Colon.
