Damon for DH?

Now that the Yankees designated hitter job is up for grabs, Jon Heyman tweets that the team has at least discussed the role with Johnny Damon. Obviously Damon’s not what he was a few years ago, but he hit 16 home runs last season and has had success in Yankee Stadium.

Internally, the Yankees have Andruw Jones as an option at designated hitter. They could also give Jorge Vazquez a look as a big, all-or-nothing bat that doesn’t come with much of a glove.

External options, including Damon, might depend on how much the Yankees can spend. They’d obviously still like to find a corner bench player, they still have to agree to terms with their arbitration guys, and they just poured $10 million into the Hiroki Kuroda contract.
