Off the market: Pena signs with Tampa Bay

Aside from Prince Fielder, Carlos Pena was probably the best hitter left on the free agent market until today.

Pena agreed to a one-year deal worth more than $7 million to rejoin the Tampa Bay Rays. Initially considered a potential DH candidate for the Yankees, that contract leaves little doubt that Pena priced himself out of the running in the Bronx.

The free agent market still offers plenty of veterans who could be designated hitter options at the right price, but all come with considerable flaws and questions.
