Eduardo Nunez has been scratched from the Yankees lineup after once again feeling pain in his right hand. He asked to play through it, but the Yankees told him no.

“Well try in a couple more days,” Joe Girardi said.

Nunez was hit by a pitch last Monday and the soreness has lingered. Girardi said that, because the problem is on the back of Nunezs hand, theres still no significant concern. Even if it takes another week, the minor league spring schedule would let the Yankees give Nunez a ton of at-bats to get in regular season shape.

“I dont think were going to miss him for a lot of time,” Girardi said. “But Id like to have him back.”

Doug Bernier will start at shortstop today.
