WEATHER: Temperatures dropping into the lower 70s by the end of the game, which almost qualifies as chilly down here.

SOX PEN: Boston traveled with relievers Vicente Padilla, Brandon Duckworth, Junichi Tazawa, Michael Bowden, Tony Pena Jr., Will Inman, Sean White, Caleb Clay and William Latimer.

HOME AND AWAY: This is the first of two spring training games between the Yankees and the Red Sox. The next is March 22 in Fort Myers. Depending on what the Yankees do with Monday’s off day, that game lines up to be either Hiroki Kuroda, CC Sabathia or Phil Hughes getting the start.

TUNE IN: After tonight’s game, YES Network with commemorate its 10th anniversary with a two-hour special highlighting memorable on-air moments and events.

NEW PLAN: With Doug Bernier inserted into the lineup for Eduardo Nunez, Corban Joseph will now come off the bench to play third base.

UPDATE, 7:14 p.m.: Nova pitches around an Ellsbury double to toss a scoreless first inning.

UPDATE, 7:28 p.m.: The Yankees left runners at second and third in the bottom of the first when both Mark Teixeira and Raul Ibanez grounded out. Here’s Nova back out for this second inning.

UPDATE, 7:53 p.m.: Three scoreless for Nova who looks much better than in his previous two outings.

UPDATE, 8:15 p.m.: Four innings, two hits for Nova. He had three strikeouts, including Jacoby Ellsbury and Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the fourth inning. Much better outing for him.

UPDATE, 8:27 p.m.: Here comes Mariano with the game tied in the fifth. That’s the last time I’ll ever write that sentence.

UPDATE, 8:28 p.m.: Nova threw 55 pitches, 35 for strikes.

UPDATE, 8:30 p.m.: Broken bat No. 1 for the closer, and a 1-3 putout for the first out of the inning.

UPDATE, 8:32 p.m.: E-4 on the bad throw by Hall.

UPDATE, 8:34 p.m.: Called strike three. Rivera’s ready.
