Now the pitching has un-worked itself out!

  2. Irreverent Discourse March 14th, 2012 at 4:59 pm

This will annoy some Lohuddians to no end

Not as much as 2 new threads in 3 minutes. This conversation was slow enough today, now it’s dead.

  3. GreenBeret7 March 14th, 2012 at 5:02 pm

Weren’t you complaining about not having enough information just the other day? Now, it’s too much?

sorry, but, nothing worth talking about on the others besides what info was put out.

  4. Pat M. March 14th, 2012 at 5:08 pm

Phelps to the rescue ??? We were just discussing this late last night ……

  5. hardwired7 March 14th, 2012 at 5:13 pm

X-rays negative. Freddy Garcia has no right hand.

  6. GreenBeret7 March 14th, 2012 at 5:19 pm

    Pat M.,

With Carpenter down for a while, mets needing pitching, along with about 8 other teams, NYYs are sitting pretty good with 9 ready and near ready starters. Time for Cashman to stick a gun in somebody’s ribs?

  7. m March 14th, 2012 at 5:26 pm

Good news. But it just tilts the scales back in Hughes’ favor.

Hopefully, Freddy will be good to go after the swelling goes down. Mustn’t hurt like a mother.

Halladay has a 10.57 era this spring…..panic! His velo has been down though a bit

  10. ron March 14th, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Unless garcia outperforms hughes by a lot,i just can’t see hughes losing the 5th spot.
Wether it is because hughes pitches better in st,or to get hughes value up,or not waste it in the pen.
The fact that hughes was hurt, and had a huge innings increase in 2010,the yankees would have to be insane to put hughes in the pe.

Kennedy gone, and hughes, and joba in the pen just doesn’t sit right.
Now if there is a good enough reason for hughes to lose the 5th spot, fine, but i can’t see one.

I don’t see garcia sepparating him self enough in st from hughes.

  11. ron March 14th, 2012 at 5:47 pm

With the pitching debth, the yankees should trade garcia.

“This will annoy some Lohuddians to no end”

Even more annoying is that I’ll have to keep posting this on new threads, as I’m desperate for some radio baseball.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good NY radio station that talks Yankees all day (or parts) that is available via TuneIn app? I don’t expect games as I realize those are reserved for MLB At-Bat, etc, just looking for some good NY baseball talk radio.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Jerkface March 14th, 2012 at 5:50 pm

They cannot trade garcia because he signed as a free agent. Have to wait until either may or june I think.

  14. ron March 14th, 2012 at 5:57 pm

I understand that, but i think he will have no prob with a trade, instead of the pen.

    Maybe i’m wrong.

Not sure if he ok’s it if he can be traded earlier, but we have cc,kuroda, pineda, nova, hughes,in addition to warren, phelps, mitchell, and more,in wich everyone of them are cheaper than garcia.

Not sure what we’d get back, but maybe packaging him with some prospects,we get something usefull.

  15. Bronx Jeers March 14th, 2012 at 5:58 pm

WFAN 660am is the sports station here in NY but you have to able to deal with a guy who talks like this…..

    “Jobber is a startun pitchah!”.

  16. yankeefeminista March 14th, 2012 at 6:03 pm

    lol. Jeers. Damn straight!

Just a drive by–back later; hopefully to read Joe G.’s postgame comments on Manny B. and DJ. :)

I believe June 15 is the date at which the Yanks would be free to trade Freddy without his approval. He could be traded now with his agreement. Or so I understand.

Whether he has any trade value at his contract amount is another issue.

  20. J. Alfred Prufrock March 14th, 2012 at 6:13 pm

    Chad, I second YF.

Looking forward to some feedback on Manny and DJ from today. Thanks.

    Randy,

Thanks for your answers in the game thread unfortunately had a meeting i couldn’t avoid, seems i didn’t miss much. But again thank you.

    The Genius maker,

OPS of 700 for a bench player with a plus glove is very good IMO, again i think Chavez problem is health, at this point in his career you can’t ask from him to have a season similar to those he had when he was young and healthy.

  22. ron March 14th, 2012 at 6:16 pm

Though Sweaty Freddy is expected to begin the year in the bullpen I’ve thrown him in for comparison’s sake. Unsurprisingly Freddy also projects as the least-effective of the six starting candidates. Despite a horrid season, most projection systems still love Phil Hughes, with Bill James going so far as to project a 3.71 ERA/3.82 FIP (albeit in 102 innings), while the ever-pessimistic PECOTA also appears to still be a Hughes fanboy, projecting a 3.84 ERA over 135 innings.

None of the systems think Ivan Nova can reproduce his 2011, although Marcel’s non-park-adjusted 3.88 ERA/3.89 FIP is the most optimistic. On the flip side, PECOTA thinks Nova’s a joke, with 156 innings of 5.03 ERA ball.

Both Hiroki Kuroda and Michael Pineda‘s average projections seem eminently reasonable to me in the AL East; truly, if the Yanks can record a second straight season of three starters giving 100-plus innings of sub-4.00 ERAs (thanks to CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia) — something that hasn’t happened for the Yankees in back-to-back seasons since 2001-2002 — needless to say they will be in excellent shape.

For those interested in simulations, the most recent iteration of CAIRO (run over a month ago) had the 2012 Yankees as the best team in baseball, at 97-65 (five games ahead of Tampa Bay); Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA also has the Yankees with the best record in baseball, at 95-67 (five games ahead of Boston); and even THT’s get-off-my-lawn Oliver forecasting system has the Yankees with the best record in baseball, at 95-67 (three games ahead of Boston).

    From rab.

Yeah Im not sure where that “startun pitchah!” thing came from but I see it a lot in here.

The Francesca I remember was always screaming “He’s just a guy!” when discussing Joba.

    Ron,

Thanks for those numbers…Are Hughes numbers somewhat messed up because of his relief roles in 2009 and last years shortened season?

  26. luis March 14th, 2012 at 6:23 pm

    Hi Odds, JAP,

Franchesa must be one of the dumbest guys i’ve heard in my life….

  27. Jerkface March 14th, 2012 at 6:23 pm

Hughes innings look the way they do because he can’t stay healthy, which causes projection systems to assume some kind of health impact.

  28. luis March 14th, 2012 at 6:27 pm

    JAP,

I just listened to one inning of work of Banuelos, what i could gather is that he had command issues, fell behind every batter he faced and reach 3-2 count on three guys if i’m not mistaken. Also, the Jays broadcast said that he might have been squeezed a little. i didn’t listen to game after that inning had to go to a meeting.

  29. ron March 14th, 2012 at 6:27 pm

    Exactly.

  30. luis March 14th, 2012 at 6:28 pm

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  51. are speaking August 10th, 2014 at 9:50 pm

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
