TIME: 1:05 p.m.

WEATHER: Wind blowing in from right field. Temperatures getting into the mid-80s with a decent chance of rain.

UMPIRES: HP Mark Wegner, 1B Sam Holbrook, 2B Mark Lollo, 3B TBA

TIGERS PEN: Detroit is scheduled to use Joaquin Benoit, Daniel Schlereth, Octavio Dotel and Chris Bootcheck out of the bullpen.

LAST MAN STANDING: Among the Yankees pitchers on this trip is Kevin Whelan, the former Tigers prospect who’s the last player remaining in either organization who was involved in the Gary Sheffield trade. The Yankees got Whelan, Humberto Sanchez and Anthony Claggett each to the big leagues, but none of those three has played a significant role.

ON A ROLL: The Yankees are undefeated in their past five games — four wins, one tie — and they’ve lost only one of their past nine.
