Kuroda-san, appropriate considering mlb opened in Japan.

Cito and Tyler Austin to get in!!!

  2. Erin March 28th, 2012 at 9:07 am

eboland11 Girardi said rotation decision likely to come in next “three or four days.” Said he knows “somebody’s going to be disappointed.”

    Pruf-

Thanks for the update on Montero’s ab’s. Darn Ichiro. If not thrown out there’s a chance I could have seen Montero’s 5th ab! :)

  4. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:08 am

It feels strange to have to leave our game thread behind with the new post.

    Seattle two outs away.

  5. blake March 28th, 2012 at 9:09 am

Smoak cost Montero another AB :(

  6. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:09 am

    Too bad for Freddy.

    :(

  7. blake March 28th, 2012 at 9:10 am

Its remarkable how bad the As are…..Coco Crisp in the 3 hole?

  8. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:10 am

But he’ll enjoy Pitching in the NL.

    It’s way easier.

    :)

  9. Triple Short of a Cycle March 28th, 2012 at 9:10 am

Does anyone know if tomorrows game is televised live?

  10. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:11 am

Replay on on mlb net, anti-climatically…

  11. blake March 28th, 2012 at 9:12 am

Yea Freddy is probably gonna be the odd man out unless they go bold and start Pineda at AAA. I really get the feeling that if Girardi were making the decision then Freddy would get the nod.

  12. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:12 am

Game’s on YES tom. Delayed on mlbn.

YIKES!! Montero 0-4 with 3 LOB! Panic time in Seattle???????????

  15. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:16 am

    Blake-

I like and respect Garcia but I don’t see how you deny the young guys in favor of him.

If he wants to work out of the pen that’s cool. Otherwise you shop him and wait for the right moment.

There’s no rush unless Freddy gets antsy.

Actually I’d prefer he was around until we see what we have out of Pettitte.

Somehow I expect the Yankees to take the path of least resistance which means one of the young guys hits AAA and Garcia goes into the Ro.

    We’ll see.

  16. blake March 28th, 2012 at 9:17 am

Aside from how good the pitchers have thrown overall this spring…..a couple of other things give me great hope for this season.
-Tex’s LH swing and approach look better than they have in two years…..he’s driven some balls to LF that I don’t think he could have last year.
-Derek looks comfortable and good at the plate….he’s letting the ball travel deep just like in the 2nd half last year.
-Alex looks healthy and explosive again….

If those three things hold and Cano is Cano….and 2011 Granderson is for real (kinda looks like it might be)…..then this team will be very very good barring injuries.

  17. Benny Blanco March 28th, 2012 at 9:17 am

    Blake,

Do you think the yankees will have the “stones” to start pineda in AAA after the all the flack they received for trading their best hitting prospect?

I could understand why they would do it but it wouldn’t make any sense. The yankees have some tough decisions to make this year regarding their rotation.

  19. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:20 am

    blake-

I agree on all 3 points.

That’s one of the reasons I figured we’re good for 100 + wins.

Better Pitching overall and a productive O.

    A dynamite combo.

    :)

    MTU,

I think they’ll make Freddy the long man and then shop him …..Im fine with that. When/if Andy is ready then you have another decision to make…

Alex has got to stay healthy and be Alex.

I’m not worried about “offense” during the season – it’s those postseason ABs I dread.

  29. Tackelberry March 28th, 2012 at 9:24 am

I’ve been very impressed with The Jays this Spring. Brett Lawrie looks like he’s gonna be some hitter!

  30. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:24 am

Congrats, Rosy. It was fun. I may go back to sleep soon myself.

  31. Yankee Trader March 28th, 2012 at 9:24 am

I’m not so sure that Garcia will be the odd man out.

Nova has not looked that good and has the worst stats so far among the 6. He induces a lot of ground ball outs. Maybe he’ll initially be the long man in the pen, brought in especially with men on base, with the Yankees needing a DP to get out of an inning.

I don’t think Garcia will be traded before the end of ST. He’s more valuable staying, then what the Yankees would likely get in return at this point in time.

  32. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:26 am

    Blake-

That’s the optimistic view with Garcia.

Not sure how the Yankees view it.

Most likely differently than we do.

I could see them starting Freddy and sending down one of the kids.

I really have no feel for what they’ll actually do.

Whatever they do I hope it meets 2 criteria :

That it gives them the best chance to win.

That it maximizes the long-term future of our Pitching.

    ;)

I think Mark Teixera is so important to the Yankees in the next 2-3 years…..part of the reason I hated losing Montero was because of how Tex has been the last two years…..if Mark can get back to where he was a couple or years ago then it lessens that blow a bit.

  35. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:29 am

    Blake-

Tex’s stroke from the left side has looked a lot better so far this Spring.

I think he has rediscovered that the field is wider than he previously thought.

And that he can use it to his advantage.

    :)

  36. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:30 am

blake, hope you get to the River Dog games. It was great to see them two days in a row at Lakewood last year. And yeah, Profar will be moved to A+.

I believe the Charleston games at Lex –4 games at end of April–will actually be televised on milb-tv, so there’s that.

I’d have Raul on a very short leash.

Jones has looked terrific so far this Spring.

  43. J. Alfred Prufrock March 28th, 2012 at 9:38 am

Villa, the Yankees missed out on a mid-order monster, but also a merch dream.

MTU, Swisher has had some encouraging lefty swings this ST. Not holding my breath, though, that they stay with him. October, with guys like him, is the worry. Hitting mechanics are one thing, but you have to experience a degree of relaxation in key ABs or you’ll just revert to bad habits. Gardner was not rising on his toes to swing in the playoffs and was successful just going with pitches. Martin was a nightmare. Looked like a guy they grabbed out of the stands and asked to try and hit ML pitching.

  44. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:38 am

Villa, he also has a free and easy way about him that translates to his swing (soft hands as we say in hockey). Used to love watching him bopping to music in the on deck circle before AB’s. He did a good job with that inside pitch today, almost got it in there; next time he’ll get a hit out of that one and won’t get under that one pitch. I wish our season were starting as well.

  45. Villa Nova-Ya March 28th, 2012 at 9:39 am

    MTU -

That is interesting. Active family. :)

I also thought this Japan series was exhibition and did not realize it was regular season opener until Rosy mentioned it.

  46. Yankee Trader March 28th, 2012 at 9:39 am

I’m going with these 12, based on performance so far

Opening 3 game series at Tampa, followed by 3 at Baltimore:

    Sabathia
Kuroda-he’ll be the home opener starter vs the Angels.
    Hughes
    Pineda
    Nova
    Garcia
    Logan
    Rapada
    Cabral
    Soriano
    Robertson
    Rivera

I believe Wade has options and will be sent down.

  47. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:41 am

    JAP-

Martin needs to up the O.

This is a critical year for GGBG IMO. He needs to turn it up a notch again.

I like Swisher but I think he is gonna be a victim of the budget crunch. To be replaced with a less expensive model.

  48. yankeefeminista March 28th, 2012 at 9:41 am

I could have outhit Martin in the playoffs. Let’s hope his brand new body pays dividends and positively affects his mechanics. ;) Also probably a good idea not to overplay him.

Tex is critical. He looks like 90 percent better. Losing Jesus though, is big, because of how good he’s going to be. You just don’t get rid of guys like that.

  50. Chip March 28th, 2012 at 9:43 am

Talk about your gross overpays – Forbes put the value of the Dodgers at $1.4 billion earlier this month – Magic Johnson and his ownership group just spent $2.15 billion to buy them from McCourt. My guess is that they will be out of money and looking to sell within 3 years.

NYPost this morning reports that the Astros and Orioles are both interested in Justin Maxwell.

  51. BD (Boston Dave) March 28th, 2012 at 9:43 am

“I could understand why they would do it but it wouldn’t make any sense.”

Sending Pineda down makes plenty of sense and the reasons have been layed out already. It also makes sense to keep him up. Both possibilities make plenty of sense, that’s why it’s a tough decision all around.

  52. MTU March 28th, 2012 at 9:45 am

    YT-

Nice list but I disagree on a few of your projections.

I think they stay with Wade.

Not sure which of Rappy or Cabby stays.

Cabby is a rule 5 guy so there is pressure there.

Not sure on Freddy either. He might just be in the Ro. Though I prefer he hits the pen.

I like Rapada better from what I’ve seen. He’s death on lefties. I like that.

  53. Yankee Trader March 28th, 2012 at 9:46 am

Jones has looked terrific so far this Spring.

    ———————
    MTU-
Andruw Jones might “look” terrific/marvelous, but he hasn’t “played” terrifically.

    BA-.200; SLG% .225; 12 strikouts-tied with Dickerson for team lead.

    However, “You look marvelous!”

    ///

I don’t mind seeing Swisher replaced. He’s a solid player, and as a RHB he’s a good hitter. But we have really good young OFers on the horizon and I don’t want to get hung up too long with Swish. I’d like to see Gardner bunt more, have a better OBP, and use his legs to drive pitches. Way too much upper body effort in his swing. I’ll take gladly a .270 BA from him. Martin isn’t a terrible hitter, but he’s not going to make anyone forget Posada. He was god awful in the postseason. The postseason is what I’m concerned with. We need to see some guys pick up their BAs. Getting Nunez a decent amount of ABs is important too, I would say.

    ______________________

No way on the Cowboys, but when you factor in YES, Yankees likely already are that month.

As I touched on last evening, the $2b is likely for the sale of the Dodgers AND the central programming for a new Regional Sports Network.

$2b could wind up being a bargain at the end of the day.

“I like Rapada better from what I’ve seen. He’s death on lefties. I like that.”

    —–

Definitely a tough call. I don’t think there’s much pressure with Cabral re: rule 5 because they’ll also lose Rapada if they can’t make an agreement.

At least Logan looks good. If they make the right choice and keep a second tough lefty in the pen, dang… than bullpen is and would be vicious.

  59. J. Alfred Prufrock March 28th, 2012 at 9:50 am

Smoak isn’t standing in the way of Montero. Gimme a break – whole different level of hitter, there.

  60. Joe from Long Island March 28th, 2012 at 9:50 am

chip – i heard that news on mlbn radio, and the interview with the ravnell, the reporter from cnbc.

i don’t know which amazes me more, that the sale price was over 2b, or that mccourt is expected to walk away with half that – 1b dollars – after he devastated that franchise.

the amount of money that the new owners will have available to invest in the team is a great question. it had been speculated that steve cohen was the smart choice to win the bid, as he’s rich enough to pay the purchase price in cash if he so desired. an owner with that much resources would have been a better bet to invest in the product on the field. off hand, i have no idea how leveraged the winning group is.

maxwell to the o’s? that would indicate a willingness of angelos to deal with nyy. but, i guess amazing things can happen.

  64. Chip March 28th, 2012 at 9:53 am

    Stuckey -

I believe that I read a while back that McCourt had divested the Dodgers and Dodgers Stadium from the parking facilities so in essence an owner who bought the Dodgers would have no place for his fans to park without reaching a second agreement on the sale of those lots.

I also think that if I’m remembering correctly – the Dodgers just signed a long term deal with Fox so a regional network is likely not in the cards.

I also think that if I’m remembering correctly – the Dodgers just signed a long term deal with Fox so a regional network is likely not in the cards.

Fox has a small exclusive bargaining window starting this fall to come to a TV deal extending past 2013. After that it’s anything goes.

Looked better that time. He prolly thinks it’s 3 a.m. and he’s having a nightmare that he went 0-for-4. :D . Woulda been better had he at least been on NY time. Better in other ways, too :(
