Getting started in Miami

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Apr 01, 2012 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Still have to see how this place plays, but my first impressions of the new Marlins stadium are mostly positive. I haven’t been around the councourse or in the seats, but things seem pretty open and I like the backdrop with the city skyline visible beyond left field. There’s a huge video board in right-center field and some sort of jumping Marlin cartoon-type sculpture in left-center. Parts of it look goofy, but it’s not as over-the-top as I was expecting.

Here’s the lineup for today. Looks like Opening Day…

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Robinson Cano 2B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Nick Swisher RF
Raul Ibanez DH
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF

LHP CC Sabathia

Regular lineup today, great to see.

  2. yankeefeminista April 1st, 2012 at 10:25 am

Thinking the same. Regular season can’t start soon enough. Stay healthy, boys.

  3. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 10:26 am

    Josh Norris ? @jnorris427

Also, Ryan Pope and Pat Venditte have switched between the Double- and Triple-A work groups. @TrentonThunder

    31m Josh Norris ? @jnorris427

I’ve been told that Walter Ibarra will be the primary (and Opening Day) SS for the @TrentonThunder. Jose Pirela will shift to a utility role

  4. Bronx Jeers April 1st, 2012 at 10:28 am

Keep those f*****g fish in the water!

That would be my “words of wisdom” for my pitcher if I was the manager for the visiting team.

  5. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 10:28 am

    Jack Curry ? @JackCurryYES

Yanks and Marlins open new Marlins Park at 1:10 on YES. Promises to be chatty broadcast since Leiter is already talking up storm off camera

  6. yankeefeminista April 1st, 2012 at 10:29 am

I expected Ibarra would start at SS; Pirela is a utility guy and not very good. Marshall will thank God that it is not Pirela. ;) At least Trenton should have a decent BP …

  7. Crawdaddy April 1st, 2012 at 10:32 am

Pope didn’t impress me the other night.

  8. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 10:32 am

If Pirela gets more time in the outfield, he’ll have more value, because he might start to hit. A shortstop, he’s not.

  9. BD (Boston Dave) April 1st, 2012 at 10:33 am

Daniel Bards been named the Sox 5th starter

    Lester
    Beckett
    Buchholz
    Felix Doubront
    Bard

    Aceves to the pen.

    He’s not alone.

Yes, Pirela has some hitting talent. A disaster of a SS, though, and not a great 2B, either.

The roof is being closed due to the heat. How long will it take to lower the temperature after they close it?

  13. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 10:38 am

Aceves will have tendonitis by June.

  14. Crawdaddy April 1st, 2012 at 10:39 am

“Aceves will have tendonitis by June.”

He didn’t last year and pitched a ton of times.

Boston appears to have issues at the back of their bullpen. Bailey hasn’t pitched in 10 days

Here’s the NYTimes article on future baseball inefficiency targets.

  21. Joe from Long Island April 1st, 2012 at 11:01 am

GB- I always thought Beane seemed a bit too eager to unload Bailey. I was surprised Boston got him for what I thought was too little.

RadioKev- that is a nice article.

  22. yankeefeminista April 1st, 2012 at 11:04 am

Trenton pitching order: Thursday, Hall; Friday, Stoneburner; Saturday, Marshall; Monday, Heyer; Tuesday, Romanski.

    Yep. Marshall on Saturday.

My thoughts, too, Joe. It’s not like they got much in return or that he was being overpaid.

  24. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:15 am

Josh Norris will put some video up later on the Campos and Ramirez game.

  25. jacksquat April 1st, 2012 at 11:17 am

DavidWaldstein Joe Girardi ran into Jeffrey Loria at the hotel last night.

Should have turned around and run into him again.

“Boston appears to have issues at the back of their bullpen. Bailey hasn’t pitched in 10 days”

since farrel left, it seems their pitching has gone in the wrong direction.

or right direction for yankee fans,

  27. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:23 am

    Randy,

Yes, but, you’ll notice that there’s not one case of shoulder tendonitis with the pitchers.

  28. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:26 am

A friend of mine received this article in the gift basket sent to her from Tampa last night and wanted me to share with you.

“Yes, but, you’ll notice that there’s not one case of shoulder tendonitis with the pitchers.”

    gb7-

i haven’t paid much attention to boston pitchers but they obviously imploded last year and their rotation is pretty suspect.

  30. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:32 am

That bullpen is going to be pretty stressed because of the #4/5 pitchers, I’d think…especially without Bailey, if he’s out for any length of time.

  31. randy l. April 1st, 2012 at 11:41 am

    gb7-

i hate to admit to listening to the red sox talk radio station WEEI because anyone who listens to that station on a regular basis has to be a dumb ass, but i was stuck in a five mile back up heading over the sagamore bridge ( cape cod) while heading to maine and i tuned in.

they were flipping out over the pitching staff. they basically said buchholtz was a total unknown because of his back problems. there was no telling what bard would do and to take aceves out of the bullpen would weaken it.

there’s some guy named doubrant they weren’t too high on. in short they were saying the red sox are kind of screwed with starting pitching.

what was mildly interesting as in watching a train wreck was curt shilling coming on live and saying that players already are tuning out bobby valentine and that shilling has personally heard from players that valentine is the same meddling controlling guy he was with the mets.

shilling said valentine was going to be a disaster for the red sox.

  32. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:42 am

    Bailey has a bad thumb

  33. vinny-b April 1st, 2012 at 11:43 am

don’t know if there’s any ‘Coast to Coast AM’ fans.

John Lear (as in Lear-Jet family) was on for all 4 hours. He revealed there are actually 2 billion living on the Moon. And that the moon as extensive networks of highways, buildings/houses, and extravagant malls which dominate the ones we have. Pointed out the Moon’s gravity is actually 70% of what Earth has. Later, he explained the Nuclear Disaster in Japan was initiated via an atomic bomb detonated in the pacific ocean. And pointed out several other discoveries.

at 5 am last line of the show, my man John B Wells, iterating the show date is April 1. And none of the info in the 4 hours is true. :) LoL’d to myself. Love John B Wells too much to even get mad

  34. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:44 am

Randy, I occassionally look in on Boston, but not often…same with the other teams.

  35. GreenBeret7 April 1st, 2012 at 11:45 am

    Josh Norris ? @jnorris427

Name to watch: Andury Acevedo. He was just hitting 95 with a filthy mid-80s slider. #Yankees

I think the Disclosure Project would dismiss the idea that ETs are a joke.
