The Yankees have been swept in their opening series against the Rays. Today’s finale was a 3-0 shutout, with the Yankees held to just three hits while Jeremy Hellickson came one out away from a complete game. Phil Hughes allowed two runs and struck out five, but a high pitch count forced him out of the game after just 4.2 innings. The Rays added their third run on a solo homer off Boone Logan in the sixth. Doubles by Nick Swisher, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira accounted for all of the Yankees hits, and obviously all three were left stranded. Raul Ibanez misplayed the first ball hit to him, leading to an RBI triple in the first inning. He was making his first start in right field since 2005.
