The Rangers had the best record in baseball. They’d won nine of their last 10 and had shown such a potent offense and deep pitching staff that even Joe Girardi acknowledged this series would be a test to “see how good you are.” The Yankees looked pretty good in a 7-4 win that featured four more hits from Derek Jeter, a three-run home run by Alex Rodriguez and eight strong innings from CC Sabathia. Finally looking like his old self, Sabathia struck out eight and walked one, and when he seemed to get into trouble with two runs in the seventh, he stayed in to retire the next five hitters (who just happend to be the top five hitters in the Rangers lineup). Mariano Rivera closed out the win with his fourth save of the season.
