Nunez-LF
“I would still rather have Curtis Granderson than a pitcher who may or may not be an NL only guy.”
The “NL only ” guy is a myth….having a higher era doesn’t mean you’re a worse pitcher….it means you’re in a league where morein runs are scored…..but yea Im fine with the trade anyway.
Hamels is due for a bad game.
Let’s accomodate him.
“Nunez-LF”
Yep, I am shocked. Joe must have lost his binder.
“Hamels is due for a bad game.”
Hammel is….Hamels is the guy Cashman should sign this winter.
how many first inning pitches before someone hits a low, sinking liner towards Nunez?
Granderson is an MVP caliber player. I would not undue the trade but I wish they could go back and shove Hughes into that package instead of IPK. I’d take Granderson over nearly every CF in baseball aside from Matt Kemp.
I like Nunez in LF I guess….except I really have no idea how well he actually plays outfield
This nonsense of a two person bench is insane.
Put Swisher on the DL, remove Ramiro Pena from the 40 and call up Wise.
That’s what I guessed, but I forgot to post it.
Do we still play Guess the Line Up around here?
Ibanez & Nunez…. this could get interesting.
But really what is the alternative with Swish on the shelf?
The starting pitching is in flux so they have to go with 13 pitchers right now.
The three zees are playing tonight…Ibanez, Chavez and Nunez. Hopefully, are offense won’t be sending us to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, although this guy Jason Hammell has been putting a lot of big-name hitters to sleep so far.
More likely to pitch for their respective team next season: Phil Hughes or Mike Pelfrey?
Nunez is pretty fast, why can’t he play CF, then we could flank him with Ibanez and and Jones and have the most exciting outfield in recent memory.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
Chip,
Hughes. The Yankees know he can be dominant out the pen and is not coming of major surgery.
Hey Nick,
I haven’t been posting on here much at all but I seem to remember a bet we made regarding Pineda
Settle up now or wait until the season is over? If you want we can make a new bet so you can have a chance to even things up
I like the idea of Nunez in LF, but I wish we had given him more reps in the outfield generally. Do we just make it up as we go along?
Yeah, Hamels we will gladly take in FA; Hammel we will take tonight against Baltimore.
Catch you later.
Curtis is going to be doing a lot of running tonight…
I wouldn’t mind seeing an OF of Nunez, Gardner & Granderson next year. Nunez could also put on more weight out there, but they will have to have a legit power bat @ DH to make up for Swisher’s power loss.
Oops !
Obviously meant Hammel.
Sorry. Brain fart.
MTU,
Its ok….you were just subconsciously thinking that perhaps if the Yanks are going the pitching route then they should make a move for a guy that WILL improve the rotation….instead of trading prospects for guys that MIGHT improve the rotation
This OF will catch up with us.
I hioe it’s temporary.
I know we are on a budget but…
MTU – Your brain farts smell awful. Try some Beano
Hey Patrick, congrats, this win has been a long time coming. I’m happy to concede the bet and pay up now, despite suggestions from Dr. Schilling that Pineda could recover in a few weeks and be stronger and better than ever.
Pat M has also conceded his bet with me. Lots of chocolate will be flying around unless you want to eliminate the middleman (me) and just have him send the Ritter Sports to you directly.
Blake-
You’re a good friend.
Chances of that happening slim to none.
There’s plenty of history of pitchers faring better in the NL after struggling in the AL. Most every pitcher would do better there. If you’re talented enough, maybe “NL only” is a little strong of a phrase, but there’s no doubt a move to the NL in a bad hitting division with lower expectations can resurrect a career. No doubt.
By the way, I love how the Montero trade blows up in Cashman’s face & then immediately after he’s in the bleachers mugging for photos with fans. PR move you think? Lame.
I know we are on a budget but…
___
They dont need to spend more money.
They have DeWayne Wise in AAA, even Chris Dickerson (I think).
Hell, they can even give Melky Mesa a taste for 2 weeks while Swish is out (and he SHOULD go on the DL).
This is the friggin 3rd leg injury for him this season and it isnt even May.
Nick,
I think this is our fourth (maybe third?) bet and the first one I’ve won so the congrats is well taken.
If you want to settle up now, sure it makes sense for Pat to just send it to me unless there is an issue with shipping costs or something. Shoot me an email, or if you don’t have my email anymore I can send something to you – I think I still have your email hanging around somewhere.
I guess the LoHud Yankees blog community isn’t riveted by the Manchester Debry currently airing on ESPN?
I was hoping that they would announce a Smiths reunion during halftime, but no such luck.

I think Dickerson is on the AAA DL which may be part of what the Yankees are waiting for.
I am concerned about Swisher’s leg giving him trouble all season long – that’s part of the reason I put him on the DL – at this point it is better to shut him down and let him get it 100% than to have it nag him throughout the season.
I want chocolate.
I’m just not good at coming up with a bet….
I did bet a friend that I think Arod will play at least 100 games at 3B this year. I wish Joe would help me out by actually playing him there.

____
I don’t get the big deal about Dickerson.
They have Wise.
Why is he there if not to play when needed?
Like i said, I wouldn’t even be opposed to bringing up Mesa for two weeks to play EVERYDAY.
Cmon City!
Manchester Derby, that is.
Patrick, please do shoot me an email. You’ll need to pick out your 5 Ritter Sports, I’ll find an online source for you to pick from. You can find most of them if you go to chocosphere dot com and search for Ritter Sport.
I’d also be happy to send you some excellent Bay Area chocolate from http://www.scharffenberger.com if you want to upgrade, I can send 3 regular size bars if you want, that’s basically the equal of 5 Ritter Sports.
I can live with Nunez in LF. Ibanez in RF is a different story. NO WAY
I was hoping that they would announce a Smiths reunion during halftime, but no such luck.

Mozzer has too much drama with Mike & Rourke. I gave up years ago.
errm Joyce & Rourke.
Heyman just said that Napoli wants VMart money 4/$52m. Yikes.
Any situation where Ibanez, Jones, and Nunez are all expected to play a defensive position during the same innings is what will now be known as ‘The Perfect Storm.’
You’ve dodged it this time, Uncle Joe.. perhaps next time you will not be so lucky.
I know it’s unlikely, but I just enjoyed a Pulp show a couple weeks ago, but the Smiths are soooooooo much better…. sigh.
Mesa has more holes in his swing than a tennis racket
Finally we get Nunez in the OF, but not until Ibanez still has to be out there. Joe reads this blog and taunts us.
“I want chocolate.
I’m just not good at coming up with a bet….”
shame spencer-
i’ll bet that kuroda turns around and looks at his outfield and says to himself ” holy m#$%herf*cker” in japanese at least once tonight
Nunez has the speed for CF, he’s nearly or as fast as Gardner. Good arm too. Don’t know anything about his fly ball judgement though.

Pulp – nice. Well we still have Moz’s solo performances (I know not the same) & James still puts out amazing stuff.
Randy-
I don’t always agree with you but I have to say you have an interesting perspective.
Nick,
Some of us are certainly riveted…the last 30 minutes should be superb.
Is Ronan Tynon still doing Fenway, or he gave up on them also?

Incentive to keep the ball down
very surprised a roster move has not been made. i will be even more surprised if Swisher’s hammy heels up in one week. those injuries are very tricky and could lead to a much more serious injury quickly.
Nunez is LF will be an adventure. i just hope Granderson is ready to call him off and Nunez has good hearing.
I’m on board with Nuney. He can run sweep in the OF and still catch up to the ball.
Go Nuney!!!
I hope the fans around here give Nunez the benefit of the doubt tonight and later this week while he plays LF or RF.
Now if he drops a routing fly ball, I will be the first to yell at the t.v.
Besides that play, any error he makes I can’t be too hard on the guy.
I think he’s probably just as good as Ibanez in LF. That’s not saying much, but it’s a start.
Team has a need in the OF right now and if nobody is called up to help, then Nunez
is the man for the job.
Go Nuney!!!

Especially when our coaching staff hasn’t gotten him much time out there despite that he might be needed, smh….

Im sure he can catch up with the ball…..but after he catches up with it can he then actually catch it……

Hey Chip:
How about Doug Drabek for Rick Rhoden? That turned out to be really one sided as well.
5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. He actually threw 96 pitches
AP’s pitching line from today.
Update: Mark Feinsand has the entire pitching line: 5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. He actually threw 96 pitches, not 95.
Andys line today

Its gonna be an adventure tonight, that’s for sure.
I find these moments bitter sweet. On one hand, many posters on this blog with little to no professional baseball experience suggested very early that Nunez gets time in the OF for various reasons that would benefit the roster’s flexibility. On the other hand, many posters on this blog with little to no professional baseball experience were more prepared for the 162 game grind than the front office or the coaching staff.
NewKnee doesn’t have many issues catching the ball. His throwing on the other hand….
The line doesn’t really matter…..apparently the wind was blowing out pretty hard….like the 8 ks and 0 walks.
Hey comet! Good to see you around, as always!
Andy’s line is almost as ugly as Ibanez’s face. Almost.
Howdy Comet.
WTP-
I wouldn’t mind a better performance.
Hi there comet

He should have one more start to show total and complete domination.

That was well before Cashman’s time.
Blood and thunder Manchester derby ends with City winning 1-0. Destiny is back in their hands. Win the last two games and they win the Premier League title. Not a lot of skill, but a lot of passion.
“This stadium rocking out now to the “Blue Moon” anthem.”
I don’t think I’ve ever before heard those words in that particular order.
I think the Mayan’s invented soccer.
Only trouble was the winner was beheaded.
Go figure.
City are the Baltimore Orioles of the Premier League. They haven’t won the title since 1968. Mind you, their Arab owner has spent a fortune on players over the last two years.
Its partly due to injuries, but I like that Chavez is getting more at bats. He is swinging the bat decently and puts together professional at bats.
And unlike modern fans their hearts were really ripped out.
Andy must be getting bored down there

I’m a big fan of Chavez. I know he won’t play everyday, but when he does play he seems to produce and helps a lot of defense
at least Nunez can’t mess up the throw to 1st base if he’s in LF…
“Andy must be getting bored down there”
Is that why he gave up the 10 hits and 5 runs ?
Because he was bored.
Our team is gonna be really, really good.
We’re 12-9 while having one of the crappiest SP ERA’s in baseball.
Imagine how many we’ll win when that is fixed.
