Saved! Yankees close out win, even without Rivera

Mariano Rivera couldn’t help the Yankees tonight. Instead, it was Dave Robertson who pitched out of a bases-loaded ninth inning and picked up the save in a 5-3 win against the division-leading Rays. It was the Yankees first save opportunity since Rivera’s season-ending injury, and it preserved a strong start from Ivan Nova, who allowed two runs through seven innings while striking out eight. Rafael Soriano let the Rays pull within a run on a wild pitch in the eighth, but the Yankees scored one run in the bottom of the inning and Robertson kept the lead intact by getting into and out of trouble (what else is new?). Raul Ibanez hit two home runs in the win, and Curtis Granderson hit a solo shot that was his 10th of the season.
