Swisher back in right, Nunez back in left
Well whether the Yankees get this one in. Theres plenty of rain in the forecast and plenty of clouds overhead.
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Nick Swisher RF
Raul Ibanez DH
Russell Martin C
Eduardo Nunez LF
RHP Ivan Nova

Chance of rain bumped to 80% at 5, and 85 % at 7 p.m. Then drops to 30% at 8.
this information tells me the game won’t start on time.
They have both Wise and Jones on the roster and they put Nunez in LF?
Nunez rather than Lefty Wise–makes no sense–binder must have made this call

C’mon Blake, Wise is the 5th outfielder.
Jones is a platoon player and will get an opportunity to start in the OF or at DH when
Price starts in this series.

He will be next yr.
I can’t wait to have Brett Gardner back. When he rejoins us in left can we all promise never to mention him being traded?
He’s such a great defensive player and I love his speed.
Joba and Aardsma seem to have quite the bromance going.
Cool to see. They could both be great additions later in the season.
Anyone see that new HBO comedy Veep, with Julia Louis Dreyfuss? Its pretty funny. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.
“i love how these stats shut people up around here, hahaha!!”
I wouldn’t trust an 11 AB sample as justification for the adventure that is Nunie in LF….
“Nunez back in left” = disaster waiting to happen… sigh
What bothers me is we got Regulars yelling at Newbes to “come to the table prepared” here, and yet we got Regulars Not prepared and complaining about lineups. It ALL comes down to WHO said it. Has Nothing to do with being prepared.
“He will be next yr”
Probably….option F
Nunez may never be a strong defensive player anywhere for Yanks. And, his hitting certainly hasn’t been fantastic, by any means. JMO
Nunez could very well be our right fielder next year, so get used to it….. If they are serious about 189m, they will need to fill at least some of the positions with younger and cheaper players, starting with right field.
“i love how these stats shut people up around here, hahaha!”
Yes, I thought numbers didn’t matter. Only what we saw with our own eyes.
Like “Veep” a lot. It’s gotta help following “Game Of Thrones”. Should develop a good following\viewership.

It’s amazing the offensive drop off when Swish and Gardner went down….
I am prepared….Nunez is awful in LF and they have a plus defender who hits left handed on the bench….id rather play Wise so at least unnecessary runs wont be allowed in…..an 11 AB sample of Nunez vs Shields doesn’t change my mind……that said I hope Nunez hits 3 doubles tonight and somehow catches the balls hit to him.
I obviously Know the numbers. When push comes to shove, I go with the Baby Blues. Halladay continues to be my Exhibit A, inspite of the continued flake I have endured.
Would be nice to see Wise get a chance….
Not like he has never played baseball before.
Nunez in left feels even worse because Gardner is the best defender in the league.
They have missed Gardy…..a lot…

the overwhelming majority of MLB managers would insert Nunez into the line-up tonight
given the situation with the roster(Gardner on DL) & a right handed starter for the opponent.
5-11 is not a lot of data, but it’s something and just enough to get him in the line-up.
if Gardner was not on the DL, i’m sure he would be starting.
Plan B usually is not as good as Plan A, so let’s just support Girardi and believe he is doing
his absolute best

Wise could always be inserted into the game in the 7th, 8th or 9th inning as a defensive replacement.
WTP,
Sorry, that was meant to be shot a Donny telling us all to never trust numbers, only our eyes.
This also would be less of an issue if Nunez wasn’t strugging at the plate….
What happens when stats tell you (is it ok to use that word?) the same thing as your eyes (which is usually the case)?

You also need to consult a star chart and the waning/waxing moon to determine Uncle Joe’s line-ups.

I’ve been watching it regularly, and I think it’s fantastic. Julia Louis-Dreyfus (sp?) is a brilliant comedian, IMHO. Her timing, delivery, facial expressions, body movement, etc is spot on.
I especially like the running gag:
Selena: Sue, did the President call?
Sue: No.
Selena: ….

very true. his hitting could be better, but the kid should still be afforded opportunities in LF with Gardner on the DL.
imperfections in the line-up are bound to happen when an elite LF is out with an injury.
not very many teams have an elite OF sitting on the bench, waiting for a chance to prove
himself.
if Ibanez were starting on LF, ARod at DH and Nunez at 3rd, that would be even worse.

C’mon ac, you’re talking about Jeter’s heir here, give the guy a break
We saw the numbers for Nunez against Shields…..here is the overall slash line for Nunez this year vs RHP. .235/.333./.294. So you’re really putting a lot of stock into those 11 ABs vs Shields to put a bad defender out there in favor if a guy that can at least catch the ball.
WTP, 100% agree. Plus i really do think there is a chance Nunez is the everyday RF next year so might as well get out there now. Yankees need to assert themselves over Tampa this week after losing the first 3….
I like that Geek from the White House that drops by and Lords his position over Veep’s Staff.
C’mon ac, you’re talking about Jeter’s heir here, give the guy a break
___
Whoa whoa…. I think Jeter is becoming Jeter’s heir.
This start has everyone talking about Pete Rose now, which means 5 more years of the captain, with no other position to move him to, particularly that he would be willing to play. 3b, 1b are the only other positions i see jeter willing to play after ss)

I prefer to have Nunez and his speed out there in place of Ibanez and his lack of speed
in LF. That speed will help Nunez a lot and the lack of speed could cost Nova some runs.
Pick your poison.
Gardner is clearly the superior option but guess what, he can’t play tonight.
Pettitte is starting on Sunday!!!!

Pete Rose??? His numbers are almost unreachable. I can’t imagine a scenario where Jeter can get enough at bats in the next 5 years to catch Pete.
That would be fun to see, but I think the odds are slim to none.

LOL, ac I was just kidding. I think Nunez is a nice bench guy but the way people talk about him on here like he’s the missing piece to the puzzle!
And at the same time tell us how he has no trade value lol…
I really wonder if they might try to move Tex’s contract….
This set up pretty well for Andy. Blake Beavan, mariners’ #4 SP got beaned in the elbow last night by a Miggy line drive. They think he may miss a start. That would line up M’s long RP Hisashi Iwakuma to start vs. Andy on sunday. Iwakuma looked ok last night (3.0 ip, 5 k) but has looked pretty awful otherwise. Wedge has barely used him at all.
The binder is an idiot if it is putting much stock in such a small sample size. And the guy who uses the binder in that way is an idiot, too.
