Robertson blows one-run lead in stunning Yankees loss

Dave Robertson couldn’t pitch out of this jam. After loading the bases with no outs in the ninth, the new Yankees closer gave up a game-tying sacrifice fly and a game-winning three-run homer in a 4-1 loss to the Rays. The Yankees scored their only run on Robinson Cano’s first-inning single, and trusted their new closer to preserve the thin lead. David Phelps pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in his second big league start. He was limited largely because of a 28-pitch first inning in which he walked two and stranded the bases loaded. Boone Logan bailed Phelps out of another bases-loaded jam in the fifth, and it was Logan who would have gotten the win had Robertson been able to get the save.
