Jesus Montero toyed with fans in his return to the Bronx, swatting a solo homer to right to give Seattle a lead in the sixth. But even with Felix Hernandez on the mound, the Yankees responded. Raul Ibanez touched up the former Cy Young winner for a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and the Yanks beat the Mariners 6-2 in the series opener.

Hiroka Kuroda improved to 3-4 after scattering six hits over seven strong innings. He allowed a pair of solo home runs.

Robinson Cano continued his torrid hitting with a 4-for-4 night. He’s now 12 for his last 20 with eight RBI and five extra-base hits.
