Curtis Granderson returned to Comerica Park tonight to face a Tigers rookie who was pitching there for the first time. Granderson’s grand slam in the second inning spoiled Casey Crosby’s big league debut and sent the Yankees to a 9-4 win in their series opener in Detroit. Crosby walked four in that second inning, including Derek Jeter with the bases loaded. Three pitches later, Granderson had his 17th home run of the season and the fourth grand slam of his career. CC Sabathia allowed three runs through seven innings to pickup his seventh win. Granderson added a single and a stolen base in the ninth, right before Alex Rodriguez added a two-run homer to add some breathing room.
