This morning Derek Jeter joked that the Yankees might never score again. Then he hit a leadoff home run to set the stage for today’s 5-1 win in the Yankees series finale against the Tigers. The Yankees went 6-3 on this road trip, finishing it with an impressive win against Justin Verlander who allowed all five Yankees runs. The American League’s defending Cy Young winner was outpitched by Phil Hughes, who rebounded quickly from a rocky start in Anaheim to pitch a complete game, allowing one run on four hits. It was the first nine-inning complete game of his career. Jeter and Alex Rodriguez each homered off Verlander, while Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira added an RBI apiece.
