The Yankees hit four home runs off Johan Santana, including back-to-back-to-back shots in the third inning of a 9-1 win over the Mets. Robinson Cano ended Santana’s 19-inning scoreless streak when he ripped a two-run homer into the seats in right with no one out in the second.
Cano, Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones all homered in the third to give the Yankees a 6-0 lead. Santana departed after five and dropped to 0-3 in three career starts at the new Stadium.
Hiroki Kuroda pitched seven innings of one-hit ball and struck out a season-best seven. He left before the eighth after taking a hard line drive off the bat of Daniel Murphy to end the seventh. X-rays were negative.
