Who needs a home run? The Yankees first win without one was a 14-inning thriller in Washington, and the big hit was Mark Teixeira’s game-winning, two-run double that gave the Yankees a 5-3 win and an eight-game winning streak. The Yankees used their entire bench, including Jayson Nix, who started the 14th with an infield single and a stolen base. Freddy Garcia got the win, Rafael Soriano got the save and Andy Pettitte allowed two runs through seven innings in a well-pitched no decision. Pettitte handed a 3-2 lead to the bullpen, but Cory Wade allowed a two-out solo homer to Ian Desmond in the eighth, tying the game at 3 forcing the game well into extras.
