Yankees pregame: Chicken is the main course
Brian Heyman here for Chad tonight at Citi Field for Game 1 of this Subway Series II. Much of the pregame talk was about Frank Francisco calling the Yankees “chickens” in the New York Post, as in “I can’t wait to face those chickens.”
The reactions varied.
“What kind of chicken?” A-Rod said. “Organic?”
Derek Jeter, who made the Post cover with his head placed on top of a chicken, saw the paper. The Captain said: “I can’t be insulted by something I don’t understand.”
The Mets closer followed up today be explaining that he thinks the Yankees complain about too many calls. Maybe chicken wasn’t the right word then. But a few chicken companies called the Yankees looking to sponsor the Subway Series.
Nick Swisher tried not to say what he really felt, even walking away at the end. But he did admit about the cover display: “I didn’t think that was too funny.”
“I don’t even know that dude. I don’t think he knows us. Those are some big words.”
Joe Girardi said it only matters what happens on the field. Terry Collins said Francisco might be under more pressure if he gets in tonight.
“We’ll see if we’re chicken when he gets in the game,” Russell Martin said.
Collins didn’t appear thrilled with Francisco’s chicken comment.
“I don’t think you need to stir up the pot when you play these guys,” Collins said. “They’re good enough already.”
Update, 6:43: It just started pouring here.
Update, 7:28: They’re pulling the tarp off the field. First pitch is set for 8 p.m.

Collins better remember that he stirred the pot earlier this week
with his comments.
I like what Martin had to say and what Swisher had to say.
We all know Jeter is not going to say anything remotely close to what
those 2 said.
Sometimes I get bored with Jeter’s answers, but at this point in his career, there is nothing
else to expect from him.
So according to Francisco the Yankees are chicken huh??!!!
Let’s see who the chicken is after tonight…In Spanish is Gallina…Meaning some kind of a coward…I don’t take those comments lightly, a drilling should be in order to remind him who the chicken is…I think we sweep them
Bush league (yawn).
“I can’t be insulted by something I don’t understand,” and people say Jete never says anything, to speak of dry wits
.
This “chicken” thing is actually good for Yanks. They might have slept their way through these three games, but now, it’s a moral ought to show the Mets just how irrelevant they are.
Pitch around David Wright and you have a AAA lineup and even Wright is not very clutch…
Frank Francisco? Who’s that?
It’s unfair to characterize the Yankees as complainers. You don’t see the tantrums and histrionics you see from players on other teams. The Yankees usually have a word with the umpire on the way back to the mound, but there’s no crying.
Luis, lol. Poor sad Mets. The true gallinas. Sori owns!
primo, LMAO!
Cooked Gallina for everyone!
Frank Francisco? Who’s that?

I think this is his problem.

Speaking of…do you guys think it was bush league of Davey Johnson to squeal on the Rays pitcher that got busted for pine tar in his glove?
Collins now Francisco yet people on this site continue to root for the Mets. Mind Boggling

————————————————————————————————————–
I think Davey did the right thing. I also firmly believe if the roles were reversed, Maddon and the majority of MLB managers would have done the same.
I have no problem with what Johnson did.
The goal is to win the game. He knew of something that might have helped his team win the game and he executed the plan. Nothing wrong with that.
Peralta deserves 8 games!
What did Collins say about the Yanks?
Hi JAP and YF!
I am not laughing…That”s a very bad insult around this parts… And Francisco knows it….it wasn’t directed to me and i got mad…I don’t know what this Collins is preaching to this guys, but it isn’t good…It shows what a classless organization those Muts are….They deserve to be as irrelevant as they are.
Sorry for the rant
WTP,
I have no doubt that DB Maddon would have done the same.
But if “half the pitchers” are doing it as Maddon claims, then it was bush league.
On the other hand, I like seeing cheaters get busted. No one to blame but themselves. Maybe Peralta should have used a different glove for that series?

Q: Why did the Chicken cross the road ?
A: Because he was a Yankee and he needed to get over to Citifield to kick Met butt.

Thunderstorms passing through Queens now. Doubt this game starts on time.

Yup, but being so close to each other, I thought that something good would rub this guys. They have no clue about how to be a fair and gallant competitor. Now I understand their stupid decision of not letting Scranton play close to Citifield, only an organization with no sense of “class” and “honor” would do such a thing. I sure hope that we stomp real bad this guys in this series and the future ones for years to come.

Time to end their little streak and start ours up again.
Yankeefem, Johnson probably hurt his hamstring swinging from his heels… I didn’t even realize Farnham was stil with us. I remember he was a C that went on a power spree a few years ago, and then sort of disappeared, or got hurt, or I don’t know what. Higgie has a nice approach at the plate…

Francisco doesn’t appear to be too bright. First year with the Mets and he makes a stupid statement.
I would have a problem with the statement if Santana, Dickey or Wright said it. But, they are pros and know better.

His “under” reactions are legendary.
.
I was just watching some video of when Francisco pitched for Texas in 04 and whiffed Derek, Alex and The Giambino…..What I noticed right away was how much Alex’s body has changed since 04…….He’s huge in his upper body now…..This is the same chump who threw a folding chair from the bullpen into the Oakland crowd and started a near riot……..Chances are he won’t matter until Sunday night….Yanks take 2 of 3….
RMS,
He is as dumb as they come…Still, he should be fined for it.
7:45 projected game starting time according to Suzyn.
Rain delay
Pat M,
We must sweep them!!
I remember in 2004 when Gordon said the Red Sox strut around like they’re champions, not like the Yankees “we” behave like real champions, or something to that effect. I was just so p i s s e d. I’m sure Jeter and Po and Mo read him the riot act and asked him how many Yankee championship teams he was on and how they managed to miss him on the roster.
I’m of the “shut up and play” school, unless the situation is a special case. I also never liked that sand bagging Torre used to get into, kissing Boston b u t t and not backing up his own players. Jeter handles it best, because he’s a put up or shut up guy, always has been. Francisco isn’t going to get his attention.
Delays up and down the coast!
Gives me time to run some errands.
In case games start in the meantime -

I thought “Alien” was way better but I love Charlize.
Something about her and form-fitting Lycra agree.
MTU,
Unfortunately The movie is not even on the up coming releases in Venezuela. Saw the trailer and is directed by Riddley Scott, so it must be very good. I loved Blade Runner, Crusade and Gladiator from him. I think he directed Alien as well, one of my favorite sci fi movies ever
Any idea on a start time?
yankeefem – I didn’t expect he’d play tonight.
Luis-
He did all of those.
As I said above I thought Alien was way better.
I don’t take those comments lightly, a drilling should be in order to remind him who the chicken is…
===========================================
metsies better learn to DUCK, luis….
I made the mistake of never seeing “Alien” and seeing “Prometheus”… Needless to see I was basically confused for a nice chunk of the movie.
Tyler-
“Prometheus” was the “prequel” to “Alien”.
MTU-
Yes I was informed of that after haha. Well I knew that they were both by Scott and that they had some relation but I thought I could get away with it… I didn’t get away with as much as I thought haha.
Are the Yanks too chicken to take the field?
Tyler-
Looking at Charlize in that body-suit is worth the price of admission.
Tarp is coming off the field.
Someone said 7:45 start.
MTU-
Best part of the movie was easily her pushups at the beginning.
Tyler-
Random question, does anyone remember seeing a movie trailer during Prometheus about a man falling in love with someone he hires as a tutor?
Now they say 8.
Yes I was informed of that after haha. Well I knew that they were both by Scott and that they had some relation but I thought I could get away with it… I didn’t get away with as much as I thought haha.

As a prequel, you did not really need to see Alien to understand prometheus, and it isn’t really a direct prequel, just a ‘spiritual prequel’ that takes place in the same universe. I’d say your misunderstanding is either user error or due to some of the problems with the movie.
Though I enjoyed it overall, it wasn’t as good as Alien or Aliens. Visuals were great though.
The review fir Prometheus said it was a gorgeous film, but not to be compared to Aliens (not as good). But two if my kids loved the movie, either because it was really good or because they never saw Aliens.
That opening scene from Aliens is still one of the biggest “Oh! SHT!!” moments I’ve ever seen in a movie.
That opening scene from Aliens is still one of the biggest “Oh! SHT!!” moments I’ve ever seen in a movie.

Alien or Aliens? Which scene.
The original one with S. Weaver.
The one showing all the pods? It’s really quiet and then…!
Ive never seen any of the Alien or PRedator movies. I wanted to see Prometheus bc I had no idea it had anything to do with another movie franchise.
Of course, I was a lot younger. Tho u prolly weren’t even born yet.
But everyone else in the theater jumped out of their seats, too. Haha.
I didnt finish that thought. I guess I shouldnt bother seeing Prometheus, then?
JF-
I know that it is not a direct prequel… the way it was described to me is almost simultaneous to alien but two things going on in different universes/areas.
A lot of it I’m sure was my error. I liked the science and a lot of the visuals were really amazing but I’m not a huge science fiction guy nor have I seen a ton of science fiction movies… a little out of my element.
I agree w JF.
Really good visuals but not as good as “Alien”.
I’d give it a “B”.
Speaking of movie openings, I like the one with James Bond and Jaws sky diving.

I haven’t seen Alien so I’m sure you’re right. Like I said, I’m not a big sci-fi guy but the visuals were great and I’m always a sucker for science. Just certain scenes in the movie made me scratch my head and missed the mark in my opinion.

Yea, probably more the movies fault than you. There were some shaky reasoning behind some things.
Seeing Promethius in 3D IMAX was pretty cool for me. First time for an IMAX experience. The Audio was rocking.. But I agree about the movie being ok, and not as good.
Could be worse…we could be Marlins fans.
