3. David Wright 3B

4. Lucas Duda RF

5. Dan Murphy 1B

6. Scott Hairston LF

7. Omar Quintanilla SS

8. Josh Thole C

9. Chris Young RHP

TV/Radio: Fox/WCBS 880, WFAN 660

Umpires: Tim McClelland HP, Brian Runge 1B, Ted Barrett 2B, Marvin Hudson 3B

Weather: Clear

Losing streak: The Yankees are on a three-game skid for the fifth time in this first half.

Homer happy: The Yankees own their most home runs in franchise history through 69 games, a major-league high 108. They are 40-15 in games in which they have homered and 1-13 in games in which they haven’t.

Update, 7:25: A-Rod and Cano strand Jeter in scoring position in the first. The Yankees keep promising their hitting in these situations is going to turn around.

Update, 7:31: Nova is coming off three straight strong starts and looked sharp in his 1-2-3 first.

Update, 7:38: Chris Young matches Nova, breezes through the second.

Update, 7:53: Excellent job by Nova to get out of the first-and-third, one-out jam caused by Jeter’s error, only his sixth of the season, although that leads the team.

Update, 7:59: Another 1-2-3 inning for Young. That’s nine in a row since Jeter’s single to lead off the game. The Mets will now search again for their first hit.

Update, 8:03: Nieuwenhuis slices a low fastball down the line in left for his seventh homer, opening the third. The Mets have their first hit, 1-0.

Update, 8:18: Young one-hitter after his first four innings.

Update, 8:25: A-Rod’s error on Scott Hairston’s hard leadoff bouncer comes back to hurt. Omar Quintanilla doubles Hairston to third and Josh Thole grounds out to make it 2-0.

Update, 8:37: Young has really been in control, allowing no runs and two hits through five. If his shoulder holds up, he’s really going to help the Mets.

Update, 8:53: Cano strands Granderson in scoring position with two outs in the sixth.

Update, 9:05: Young helps himself, RBI single to right after an intentional walk, 3-0 here in the sixth. And he knocks out Nova. Rapada coming on.

Update, 9:17: Ibanez ties it with one swing, three-run HR in the seventh, his 11th. Young is done. Jon Rauch is on.

Update, 9:23: Great inning for the Yankees, a disaster for the Mets. Eric Chavez’s pinch homer makes it 4-3.

Update, 9:28: By the way, Swisher had his 1,000 hit in this inning, and that was Chavez’s first career pinch homer.

Update, 9:36: The potential tying run is on third with one out. Cody Eppley, who gave up a double to Valdespin, is out, and Boone Logan is in.

Update, 9:55: David Robertson on for the eighth after Logan’s impressive job in the seventh, fanning Lucas Duda and Dan Murphy to end the inning.

Update, 10:23: Soriano will try to finish it up.

Update, 10:27: Russell Martin left the game with stiffness in his back. Wright just extended his hitting streak to 13 games, so the potential tying run is on with one out.

  4. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Let’s go, boys! A new winning streak starts tonight!

Sounds like Fox really screwed a bunch of Yankee fans tonight, including me. Hiya, John and Suzyn.

  5. Pat M. June 23rd, 2012 at 7:11 pm

Bummer, game is blacke dout here in So. Cal, but mlb.com is providing the radio feed…….The WFAN, no Suzie and John…..

Hi Tomingeorgia, Hi Against All Odds – nice temps up here. I can’t complain- here’s hoping all is swell for you.

  8. We Want Mo Mo June 23rd, 2012 at 7:15 pm

Pat, if you use a proxy server with a NY ip address, you wont be blacked out anymore.

  9. Against All Odds June 23rd, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Hey jmills. Not bad down here. I hope all is well with you too

  10. Triple Short of a Cycle June 23rd, 2012 at 7:18 pm

Would be nice to see Jeter actually steal a base

“I know Tricia will be upset with me however The BoSox are far from dead and will be making a run for the final wild card spot…….”

Pat M – I’ll never be upset with you for getting it wrong! I wasn’t upset with you last year when you paid misguided homage to the Suxer’s chances – as you are doing again – and they ended up as the opening act for the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic!

HOWEVER – I will be upset if you get to see the Yanks tonight and I don’t – something that I think is going to happen. It appears I am totally blacked out of tonight’s Ys win. I can’t even listen to it!!!

Instead I’m sure I get to see some network slobbering over the Suxers.

If anyone has any ideas I haven’t figured out – other than my having to watch gamecast to see what’s going on – please let me know.

    ***********

WWMM – how do you do that – proxy server, etc.?

And Pat M – can you give me a web address for t

Okay, got the sound at least!

I have a feeling the Yanks are going to dominate tonight. For real!

    GO YANKS!!!

    Oh well.

Do you do that to check if you’ve been banned?

  23. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 7:26 pm

I’m not getting the MLB.com feed here either. ( Vegas ) Am able to get Sterling & Waldman. though.

  24. We Want Mo Mo June 23rd, 2012 at 7:26 pm

Pat is right. The Red Sox are far from dead. That was the purpose of the 5th playoff spot created by MLB. It was solely created because the Red Sox missed the playoffs the last 2 years. MLB couldnt have that anymore.

Trisha, there are more advanced things but Im telling Pat to use a proxy server because its really simple for an older guy to use.

You go to this site. http://www.proxy4free.com/list/webproxy1.html

Country is the 3rd column: Anything outside the United States wont be blacked out from this game tonight. All he’s got to do is open one of those, like Germany for example, and go to mlb.tv and sign in.

  25. We Want Mo Mo June 23rd, 2012 at 7:28 pm

    Yes, Nick.

  26. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 7:29 pm

Trish – I do hope your Yanks dominate upon this evening so I can have Winfield and Molitar, Alomar, Gruber, Stieb etc. Pluck your brains :) Best team takes it all, and if you guys are so much the better,…….hats off to you!

  27. Nick in SF June 23rd, 2012 at 7:31 pm

I thought as much, but never want to assume.

  28. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 7:32 pm

Thanks guys. For some reason my computer shut shut down but came back on again. Pat M – thank you for that. I actually have an account now.

“Pat is right. The Red Sox are far from dead. ”

I’d agree with you but then we’d both be wrong. :D

Nick – didn’t you have a link for free on-line games? I think you posted it during basketball season. Maybe FOX would be blacked out though.

    GO YANKS!

  29. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Hi jmills! They’re going to win tonight. You just watch!

And wasn’t I right about your Jays turnaround? Boy are they looking good!

    :)

  30. JobaTipsHisCap June 23rd, 2012 at 7:34 pm

    Muts stink

  31. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Red Sox – never dead it ,”seams” Tom Seaver. My Jays are right with those lucky Bobby Orr winners.

  32. We Want Mo Mo June 23rd, 2012 at 7:36 pm

Trisha, youre not going to get the game either. The Red Sox are on FOX, and the Red Sox/Braves game will black you out of the Yankees game.

If the proxy server thing doesnt work, I can let you use my Slingbox account online, and you can watch whats on my TV, which is the Yankees game in HD.

I checked onhttp://www.thefirstrow.eu/sport/baseball.html which is a site for all games, and its not available.

  33. JM June 23rd, 2012 at 7:36 pm

  36. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 7:38 pm

Thanks Trish – I have to admit,….I had my doubts. Now,……I’m fighting spirit girl!

  37. GreenBeret7 June 23rd, 2012 at 7:42 pm

I see the whiners are starting a little early tonight. The trolls are about to turn it into a pig sty again.

  38. MG June 23rd, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Even for someone as patient as myself this lack of hitting with RISP is getting really old.

It’s difficult to imagine that Robbie Cano can be hitting below .150 with RISP and so many others are hitting well below their career averages.

I’m not saying they should make major changes in approach but sometimes you have to take what the other team gives you-both the 2nd baseman and 1st baseman were playing on the outfield grass when he was up and with a guy 6’10″ on the mound there was little chance of him making a good play on a bunt. I saw the Mick do it a bunch of times in the old days, you wonder why the modern players are so one dimensional in their approach sometimes.

  39. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I’m getting Angels – Dodgers on Fox. They’re always blacked out here normally. ???

  40. Nick in SF June 23rd, 2012 at 7:51 pm

    Thank you, Jim Thome.

  41. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 7:51 pm

No pig sty GreenBeret7 ! – Yanks are #1 right now unless my Jays take over :)

  48. Nick in SF June 23rd, 2012 at 8:07 pm

If you log into your mlb.com and go to the page for this game, click on audio and you should get a little drop-down box with options for Yankees and Mets feed in both English and Spanish.

I also get an option for the Cantonese feed, but that’s because I live in a heavily-Chinese neighborhood. Your mileage may vary.

2nd time through the order should be fruitful for us.

  53. RSM June 23rd, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Yankees should be hammering this guy.
    He’s throwing batting practice.

  54. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Saw Young pitch 2-3 yrs. ago in San Diego and he looked like the biggest soft thrower I’ve ever seen.

    COME ON TEX!!!!

  59. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:16 pm

Fondo Motz – how did you get WCBS?

  60. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:18 pm

Half of the Mets line-up doesn’t even sound like ball players. More like law firm names.

  61. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:18 pm

When I went to MLB.com audio,it was one of the choices. i live in NY

  62. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:19 pm

Okay, I think I have WCBS. NOW the Yanks will start winning. My fault for listening to the FAN!

    Nice play Arod

  64. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:21 pm

Trying to buy live lobsters to cook for my wife’s birthday tomorrow. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a Maine lobster in East Nowhere, GA?

C’mon guys, you have to hit this big tall soft-tosser.

  67. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:23 pm

    Error night ?

  68. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:24 pm

    :(

    I don’t get it.

I was just going to mention that the next two teams above the Yanks in terms of RISP, meaning teams near the bottom of the heap, are in first place and second place respectively in their divisions.

  69. Carlo June 23rd, 2012 at 8:24 pm

A hit and run? I’ve never seen something like that. Why do that? Isn’t the solo home run the way to go?

  70. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Settle down Ivan or it is going to be Freddy Garcia night

  71. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:25 pm

4 NYY – no, I didn’t realize I could get WCBS. I know the voices for sure.

    :)

  72. Bret The Hitman June 23rd, 2012 at 8:25 pm

    Tom,

No idea, but use Kerrygold butter from Trader Joe’s. It’s made from grass-fed pastured cows and the flavor is richer than supermarket feedlot cow butter. That will go great with your lobster if you find it.

  73. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Tomingeorgia – good luck with your lobster:) I don’t have a partner to worry about.

  74. Carlo June 23rd, 2012 at 8:26 pm

An out that produces a run? What’s that?

  75. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:27 pm

tomingeorgia – have you looked in the deep fried, frozen section of the market. That may be as close as you can get.

  76. Bret The Hitman June 23rd, 2012 at 8:28 pm

    Youkilis trade close (ESPN)

BOSTON — A trade of Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis could happen at any time now, two officials involved in trade talks told ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney. On Friday night, the Chicago White Sox were perceived to be one of the frontrunners.

  77. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 8:28 pm

    Bret,
If I could find a Trader Joe’s, I could find a lobster or two. Can’t find either within a hundred miles.

  78. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:29 pm

I also think the sux will get better when they get both their CF’er and LF’er back and maybe get something for Yuk Yuk ! What, I don’t know. Don’t see how his value would be very high at all right now.

And with the young OFer’s they’re now using, one ( packaged ) should bring a decent pitcher.

  79. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:29 pm

And both of those teams – SF and the Nats, are also down near the bottom of the heap in runs, whereas the Ys are near the top.

    Go figure.

Their pitching must be astronomical. Oops, wait, need to check something.

  80. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:29 pm

tomingeorgia – in all seriousness, I have to believe some Maine on line fish market can overnight them for the right price

  81. Nick in SF June 23rd, 2012 at 8:29 pm

“I got WCBS, but I was hoping to her the game in Yiddish.”

Your IP is probably on the wrong side of Houston Street. If you can find a proxy server for the 100 block of Ludlow Street, you’ll be in Mensch City.

  82. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 8:29 pm

Nice K, Ivan. Let’s get to this guy, now!

  83. Bret The Hitman June 23rd, 2012 at 8:30 pm

  84. Bret The Hitman June 23rd, 2012 at 8:31 pm

    Where are you located Tom?

  85. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:31 pm

It’s kinda like when I was a kid, listening to a game on the radio. ( computer radio ) LOL

  86. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:32 pm

Okay, it’s a little better than I thought. The Ys average with RISP ain’t great, but their RBI looks better. And SF is a little better while the Nats are worse.

    Oh well.

  87. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 8:32 pm

    Fondo,
Checked that, its too late now. There used to be markets up in Athens that had lobster tanks, but apparently not anymore. Thanks, though.

  88. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:33 pm

    LET’S GO YANKS!

    LET’S GO YANKS!

  89. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 8:33 pm

Chris Young topping out at like 86 MPH. Offense is really struggling. Hopefully that Swisher hit wakes them up.

  90. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 8:35 pm

Good grief. Ibanez just let an 84 mph fastball right down the middle go by on a 1-0 count. Not sound.

  91. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:35 pm

    Interesting play there.

  92. Villa Nova-Ya June 23rd, 2012 at 8:36 pm

    Sheesh.

    Got no words

  93. Jerkface June 23rd, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Chris Young topping out at like 86 MPH.

Chris Young has always had very little fastball. The thing is Young is huge and so he delivers the ball closer to home plate than normal. Same principle that makes D-rob so great. Still they should crush him :x

  94. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Villa – kind of thinking the same thing. Just waiting for good things to happen.

  95. Fondo Motz June 23rd, 2012 at 8:37 pm

    I hate these Fox guys.

  96. Carlo June 23rd, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Maybe the 3rd time through the order we’ll actually get something going. Thus far, more of the same thing they call the 2012 offense.

  97. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Can you believe that Young has a .221 lifetime batting avg against ?

  98. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 8:38 pm

    Bret,
Wilkes County, Georgia, 45 miles to Athens, 50 miles to Augusta. As I said, East Nowhere!

  99. RS June 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 pm

“I also think the sux will get better when they get both their CF’er and LF’er back”

Daniel Nava is 3rd in the AL in OPS since he got called up the second week of May. Crawford coming back will actually be a downgrade to the production they’ve been getting out of LF.

Ellsbury will be an upgrade for sure, but he’s not close to coming back.

  100. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 pm

Tomingeorgia – good luck lobster boy! I’m happy to be alone,……sort of:)

  101. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 pm

    Jerk,

You’re right. But like you said, still, they should be having better ABs than this.

  102. TheStraw June 23rd, 2012 at 8:39 pm

  103. austinmac June 23rd, 2012 at 8:41 pm

I really wish their was one bat in the minors who could help. Sometimes young blood incites a team. They just have no young player to try.

  104. tomingeorgia June 23rd, 2012 at 8:42 pm

    Straw,

tom, there are a few places west of Augusta that do a real nice live Maine lobster, but they’re not retail places, just old men and ladies who sell them when they’re ready… you can tell when they have red smoke coming out of the chimney’s on their shacks, that’s when you grab your bib and head over.

  108. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 8:44 pm

  119. Carlo June 23rd, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Look at these effing swings? Every swing has a ridiculous upper cut loop in it. Under no circumstances should Long be comfortable in that seat anymore. This team across the board has gotten into ridiculous habits that don’t break easily and have lingered for a very very long time.

  120. jmills June 23rd, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Georgia is where they have backwoods places for BBQ, not lobster.

  123. Jerkface June 23rd, 2012 at 8:53 pm

No reason to swing at that. If you have to lunge and make an awkward swing, just stop.

  124. UnKnown June 23rd, 2012 at 8:53 pm

Pat M – I just want to say that the fruit cake from the West Coast who keeps changing his name has NEVER seen a picture of me. So not to worry when he makes his ridiculous misogynistic comments. As we all know, looks are irrelevant and are nothing more than the luck of the draw.

But as far as that goes, I didn’t draw poorly. So his comments about my “haggish” looks are actually quite funny to me.

(Is being a loser freak also the luck of the draw? I’ll have to ask him or one of his multiples when they’re arournd.)

  132. 4 NYY June 23rd, 2012 at 8:57 pm

Is this what we’ll see of A-Rod the rest of the way ? Fair power, few RBI ?

  133. Villa Nova-Ya June 23rd, 2012 at 8:58 pm

I really am fighting to stay positive because this just all defies logic.

But gotta say, it’s getting more and more difficult to do.

And it’s almost impossible to watch on FOX.

  134. Jerkface June 23rd, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Here is why the Yankees RISP woes is not entirely bad luck: They are last in line drive % with RISP, 5th in ground ball rate. They might be taking a different approach with runners on, and its causing them to hit the ball weakly. Which means their BABIP (last in the majors) is not just bad luck.

They are like 5th in the majors in line drive rate with the bases empty. 5% higher than with risp!

Probably. Can’t see him getting better as he ages

  136. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Every time A-Rod hits a HR now I sorta cringe, because I think it fuels his belief that he is still a home run hitter, and then he wastes ABs after that trying to go yard again. He should just announce to the media that he is not a home run hitter anymore, he knows it, and that he’s just going to focus on getting as many line drives & hits as he can. If he hit .300, went gap to gap, home runs every now and then, that would be great. But not only is he not hitting for power, he’s not even hitting for a high average. It’s too bad because I think he could be a .300 hitter but he’s being stubborn in my opinion still trying to hit for power when it’s just not there consistently anymore.

This is why there should be no complaints about being a HR team – look how quickly we get back into games that otherwise would be pretty much over. Same thing yesterday – turned a rout into a nail biting 9th inning. Same thing on Wednesday vs. ATL when Hughes took us out of the game early but we stormed back and would have won if our pen held it. Same thing vs. ATL when we rallied from 4 down in the 8th.

The team is never out of a game with this kind of power which is why people shouldn’t complain – no pitcher wants to face a lineup where they could give up 6 HRs. The lineup is fine. Game is never over when you have this much power.

    SJ44 predicts doom because

    1) If the team fails, he can say he is right. This makes him feel good.

    2) If the team proves him wrong that means they win. This makes him feel good.

The trick SJ44 has to learn is to predict success. This way when the team wins he will feel doubly swell.

  250. We Want Mo Mo June 23rd, 2012 at 9:47 pm

I care because the guy pretends to be somebody and has a following of people that buy what he sells. I also like reading his stuff for a couple reasons, half the stuff I agree with and the other half is so ridiculous it makes me feel better about myself because Im not as crazy.

I sell far more believable, accurate, and evident things – such as leagues and referees screwing NY teams and helping boston – than he did about trades and/FA signings, and I had several people on here follow in the anti-boston sentiment, but IMO mainly because they were laughing, not with, but at me.

  251. TD213 June 23rd, 2012 at 9:47 pm

  257. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Bo thanks. Last thing I heard was that Nova was screaming at himself on the mound and the players were out there trying to calm him down. I didn’t know whether Joe took him out because he didn’t regain his composure.

  258. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 9:52 pm

    igotid,

I’m not sure. But in the end A-Rod is a legend and he will probably listen to himself more than anyone else. Any changes he makes will probably have to be on his own volition.

BryanHoch Tonight’s crowd of 42,122 is the largest crowd in Citi Field history.

    ————

I don’t understand tweets like this. When Citi Field debuted (when the Mets were still good too), they didn’t reach full capacity? I’ve seen people tweet the same thing about NYS earlier this year, that it was the largest crowd in NYS history. Did they add capacity or something? How did these stadiums not reach full capacity during their debut weeks, or even for playoff games for the Yanks?

  261. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 9:54 pm

The reason I know we’re going to take tomorrow night’s game? Because Dickey is supposed to win it.

It happens that way every time.

  262. theREALkevin June 23rd, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Good chance for D-Rob to get a meaningful inning here. I’m not sure he’s had one since he came off the DL.

  263. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 9:57 pm

I love these one-run leads. I love them even more when our pitchers haven’t just come off the DL.

    ;)

I trust DRob, by the way. Just sayin’

  265. Carlo June 23rd, 2012 at 10:00 pm

Is it me or does it look like d rob doesn’t have the fastball all the way back yet? Seems to be 90/91 for the most part with a rare 94 here and there. He looks free and easy though.

  359. RYUKINGDOM June 23rd, 2012 at 10:36 pm

I, on the other hand, love the excitment because I trust him so much. No that I want there to always be runners on base. But I know how filthy his stuff is and how unflappable he is. It gets my adrenaline going in a good way!

I like Sterling – he is the face of the team and is very charming to listen to.

  366. RYUKINGDOM June 23rd, 2012 at 10:40 pm

I wouldn’t send down Wise. Good defense man and very good runner. With Brett down, that would be Unwise…Pun intended.

Anyone who thinks Cashman didn’t know how to stack this team this season has bats in the belfry.

Ibanez has really helped propel this season. Same with Chavez AND Andruw Jones.

  369. Bo knows June 23rd, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Boy, this Yankee lineup is bad. Two through five hitters 0-fers against a soft tosser. Just a terrible mind set. Martin took such a wicked overswing, he hurt himself, went staggering across the plate.

Game tomorrow should be, fall down laughing, time.

  371. RYUKINGDOM June 23rd, 2012 at 10:43 pm

After reading that Wall Street Journal piece on Chavez, I really love this guy. Playing with so much heart and pain each and every day. A true warrior and a great pickup for Cashman.

  372. UnKnown June 23rd, 2012 at 10:44 pm

Rafael is not my Archangel. I don’t compare a closer of a baseball team to something that is so sacred. So people can speak for themselves on that instead of declaring “OUR” as in everyone on the blog. I think that is pretty disrespectful.

Great win and an electric match up scheduled for tomorrow night.

  373. Frozen Rope June 23rd, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Bo – sure it was a great win. It was great to overcome playing poorly and put together the win. Yes?

  384. bruceb June 23rd, 2012 at 10:53 pm

Any win is a “great win” as far as I’m concerned but I’m still very worried about our offense. We should be scoring 8, 9, 10 runs more often than not yet it seems even four runs requires maximum effort and a little bit of luck. That puts a huge burden on the starters each and every night.

  385. RYUKINGDOM June 23rd, 2012 at 10:53 pm

    See you all tomorrow.

  386. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 10:53 pm

brruceb – Maybe now is not the time to worry about it, meaning right now. The Mets had the second best ERA in the month of June – behind the Yanks.

It will be worth a look-see after this perhaps.

  390. Bo knows June 23rd, 2012 at 10:57 pm

It was a crips win. As bad a game of baseball as I’ve seen in some time. The only saving grace was Nova. Joe G did the right thing in pulling him, as Nova was going nova at himself. Threw a get me over FB.

  391. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 23rd, 2012 at 10:58 pm

Bo knows – a lot of us didn’t get to see the game. Maybe that’s why we’re exuberant about the win and not thinking much beyond it. It’s one thing to hear a game but totally another to watch it.

I enjoy quality at bats, good pitching, good plays in the field.

Winning is good, competing is better.

This game was futility, at it’s dullest. I think I called it slow death, by a thousand cuts during the game.

Lollypop pitch, mighty swings, pfft and over again. It was so bad, it was mesmerizing. I’d go away in disgust, come back and they were still doing it. Surely the next guy will put a good swing on the ball, not.

And then came the comedic inning before they went back to more, same as before.

All true, but it masks how bad the offense is. 52 percent of the offense is HRs. Five hits against a pedestrian pitcher. Ninety pitches into the seventh. They just keep swinging really hard, just in case something happens.

  416. Bret The Hitman June 23rd, 2012 at 11:51 pm

Jesus Montero is not gonna hit for a DH. He’d have to catch full-time to have value with that bat.

Today was a fun day for me. I went to lay out with 3 girls from work at a nearby river bend. We laid out in the sun with some music and we swam in the river. They were wearing bikinis.

Tomorrow I do stair work at the football stadium on campus. Lunges, high knees and step-skipping. Between sets, sprints down the football field, squats, jumps, squat thrusts.

Then there’s a summer beach volleyball bash on campus with games and girls. I’m lookin’ California and feeling Minnesota. Ohh yeah.

    .235 .293 .476

Nah, but he has surpassed my expectations to this point.

  418. Bret The Hitman June 24th, 2012 at 12:00 am

Not to knock on Ibanez because he has had some big hits but DH is one spot where the Yankees could use an upgrade. I’d like to keep Ibanez as a pinch hitter and spare OF but Carlos Quentin would be a real weapon for this lineup – a David Justice type acquisition to help the team go deeper in the playoffs.

  419. GreenBeret7 June 24th, 2012 at 12:02 am

There’s less to worry about the Yankees’ hitting with runners on than people think. They’ve been facing some of the best pitching staffs and in the biggest parks in baseball for more than a month and a half and they’ve been winning and scoring. That’s the trouble with reading some of those idiotic stats. NYYs have been winning WS titles since 1923 by using the home run as a principal weapon.

  420. Pat M. June 24th, 2012 at 12:04 am

Bret…..Cashman has to improve the outfield and Quentin would give them a lift……I think Gardner is not a given regarding his return and Cashman is down playing the injury so he can avoid getting fleeced in the trade market !!!

  421. Rich in NJ June 24th, 2012 at 12:06 am

The RISP thing should normalize, but the Yankees haven’t been an aging, one-dimensional. limited offense with so many throughout their history.

  422. Rich in NJ June 24th, 2012 at 12:07 am

    Butchered that:

The RISP thing should normalize, but the Yankees haven’t been an aging, one-dimensional, limited offense throughout their history.

  423. Bret The Hitman June 24th, 2012 at 12:07 am

    Pat M.

I think we’re a good match for San Diego because they need help everywhere. Quentin is a rental and although a San Diego native, he could probably be swayed by a contender in free agency. San Diego will likely lose him very soon so they have incentive to trade him to help rebuild some of that roster. I’m thinking a Xavier Nady type deal with multiple bottom rotation guys.

  424. GreenBeret7 June 24th, 2012 at 12:13 am

The Yankees were aging in the early 30s, in the late 30s through the late 40 , early 50s, in ’62.

  425. Rich in NJ June 24th, 2012 at 12:16 am

This is the age of parity. Those were the days even before the amateur draft.

  426. Rich in NJ June 24th, 2012 at 12:19 am

Just looked. Mantle was 30 in ’62 and had a 1.091 OPS. Maris was 27 and had a .840 OPS. Tresh was 23 and had a .800 OPS. Richardson was 26. Boyer was 25. Skowron was only 31.

He’s going to have to learn to hit in Safeco. His away numbers are better. He has a Yankee Stadium swing. He also has better numbers as a catcher. Unfortunately for him he won’t get all of his at bats there.
