Jake Peavy RHP

TV/Radio: YES/WCBS 880

Umpires: Jeff Kellogg HP, Eric Cooper 1B, Marty Foster 2B, Tim Timmons 3B

Weather: Sunny

Streaking Sox: The Central-leading White Sox have won the first two games of this series, four in a row and six of seven.

Peavy v. Yankees: Jake Peavy is 0-3 with a 3.71 ERA in three career starts against the Yankees.

No June swoon: If the Yankees can win this June finale, it will become their second calendar month with at least 20 wins since 2004.

Homer happy: The Yankees have hit their most homers ever through 76 games, a major-league-leading 119.

Update, 1:21: Shaky two-single, one-walk first for Kuroda, but he comes through unscathed.

Update, 1:26: Granderson turns on a 1-0 fastball and sends it to the first row of the second deck, 1-0. No. 23 on the season.

Update, 1:49: Any offense from Wise is a bonus, and the Yankees got a bonus with that RBI double to right-center, 2-0 after two.

Update, 1:59: Kuroda has looked sharp the last two innings, good off-speed stuff, six up, six down.

Update, 2:14: Kuroda mowing down the Sox, striking out the side in the fourth, now seven Ks.

Update, 2:20: Peavy has allowed two runs and five hits after a 1-2-3 fourth.

Update, 2:27: Kuroda has retired 13 in a row, fourth straight 1-2-3 innings. Girardi talked about the improvement in his slider and splitter before the game.

Update, 2:30: Wise to the second deck in right, 3-0. He can pitch, field and occasionally hit.

Update, 2:31: Peavy must have been upset allowing that homer. He throws behind the next batter, Jeter, and hits him, looked like in the right hamstring.

Update, 2:40: Kuroda hits Youkilis in the left elbow, but he does stand practically on top of the plate.

Update, 2:44: Kuroda strands Youkilis at second, although his streak of 15 straight batters retired is over.

Update, 2:46: Cano hits No. 19, second deck in right, third homer up there this game by the Yankees.

Update, 3:00: Kuroda picks up strikeout No. 11 on pitch No. 107, no runs and three singles through seven for him.

Update, 3:05: Single, double, homer now for Wise. Three hits tie his career high.

Update, 3:07: Robertson takes the eighth.

Update, 3:15: Robertson, who really hadn’t looked like his old self after returning from the injury, just looked like his old self. He fanned two in a 1-2-3 inning. And the velocity was there, 94 mph on that last pitch.

Update, 3:23: Fast game, Logan on to start the ninth.

Update, 3:30: Logan walks Dunn with one out, Girardi walks out to bring in Soriano.

Update, 3:35: Yankees win 4-0, combined three-hitter, two hours, 25 minutes.

  6. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Hi tom! Gonna do my best. Because I know who the Yankees are, I think I’ll be able to spend more time here. (When your team is in first place, with the second-best record in the majors, and you still find reason to complain, you know it’s time for a head check.)

    ;)

  7. Nick in SF June 30th, 2012 at 1:08 pm

I didn’t like the way Martin caught Coughlin. Put him on the DL.

  8. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:09 pm

    Hi 4 NYY!!! Hi jackamir!

Sometimes you have to tip your cap. That guy is en fuego!

  11. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:10 pm

Pukey left yesterday’s game with an upset stomach? What did he do, catch his reflection in a mirror?

    :D

  12. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 1:11 pm

Already a delightful start. Cant wait to see how this White Sox team hits against the Red Sox.

  13. tomingeorgia June 30th, 2012 at 1:11 pm

    What’s the temperature in NYC?

  14. tomingeorgia June 30th, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Cancel that question, YES just said it”s 93. Cold spell, I guess.

  15. Yankee Trader June 30th, 2012 at 1:12 pm

Great throw and release by Martin.

  16. Tarheel In NYC June 30th, 2012 at 1:12 pm

I think that’s about the prettiest tag I’ve ever seen.

  17. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:12 pm

    :)

    Yes indeed!

  18. jackamir June 30th, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Right back at you Trisha & 4NYY. We haven’t done well without you. I’m feeling a bit more confident knowing your back…

  19. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:14 pm

“I think that’s about the prettiest tag I’ve ever seen.”

    Wasn’t that exciting!?

  20. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:15 pm

jackamir – well if it has anything to do with enthusiasm, we have this game!

  21. Yankee Trader June 30th, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Aardsma’s elbow discomfort could just be due to breakdown of some adhesions-hopefully nothing more.

  22. tomingeorgia June 30th, 2012 at 1:17 pm

    trisha,
In the words of Alaska’s former governor, “You betcha!”

  23. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:19 pm

    COME ON H!

  24. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Kuroda hasgood stuff, good movement, needs to control it.

  25. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 1:20 pm

How many pitches did Warren and now Kuroda get squeezed on? That 2-2 pitch was excellent and against us, its usually called a strike.

  26. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Crazy to see Ventura as the manager!

  27. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:21 pm

227? Heck that’s good! I think we were at 202.

  28. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:21 pm

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Kuroda also needs to be more economical than he has in this inning.
    Need distance.
    Great AB vs. Rios!

  30. jackamir June 30th, 2012 at 1:23 pm

    Score early & often..

  31. GreenBeret7 June 30th, 2012 at 1:23 pm

Didn’t exactly dazzle, but, Kuroda gets out of it. Just can’t have any more 26 pitch innings, if he’s going to give NYYs enough innings.

  32. ron June 30th, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Two great white sharks were spotted off the coast of Chatham on Thursday, the first documented sightings of the 2012 summer season, according to the Sandwich-based Cape Cod Shark Hunters.

“I spotted a couple yesterday,” spotter pilot George Breen said today. “One was about a quarter-mile offshore and the bigger of the two was about 50 yards off.”

Breen discovered the sharks during his routine spotting flight Thursday afternoon. He said the bigger one was 16 feet long, likely weighed more than 2,000 pounds, and was hunting seals near the shore.

  33. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:26 pm

    :)

    OH YEAH!!!!

Give me that long ball 24-7. You will not hear me complain!

  34. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Did the ump say Jeter went around on strike two?
Same pitch Kuroda threw to Konerko, so I hope it wasn’t a called strike.

    Way to go Grandy!

  35. jacksquat June 30th, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Kuroda needs to go at least 6. Logan, Robertson and Soriano can pitch the last 3 if necessary.

  36. randy l. June 30th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

“In the words of Alaska’s former governor, “You betcha!”

why would you quote a political dumb ass on a baseball blog?

  37. Yankee Trader June 30th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

    23 reasons to extend Granderson.

  38. jackamir June 30th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Grandy is back in the grooooove!!!!

  39. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:27 pm

There’s the ball three pitch to Konerko again, called a strike to ARod.

  40. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:29 pm

    Nice swing Robbie!

  41. Nick in SF June 30th, 2012 at 1:29 pm

“why would you quote a political dumb ass on a baseball blog?”

Why would introduce a political opinion on a baseball blog when you’ve been on here more than long enough to know better?

  42. randy l. June 30th, 2012 at 1:32 pm

“Two great white sharks were spotted off the coast of Chatham on Thursday, the first documented sightings of the 2012 summer season, according to the Sandwich-based Cape Cod Shark Hunters.”

there’s thousands of seals on monomoy island right off of chatham. the seals attract the sharks.

    Good afternoon everyone,

    Go Yankees and Go Hiroki!

I miss one inning and we are already up…Great

  44. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:35 pm

Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better inning for Hiro! Nice job!

  48. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:37 pm

    Dear umpire,
Can you please give Hiroki Kuroda the same strike zone you’re giving Jake Peavy?

    Good work Hiro!

  49. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:38 pm

that slider was the same one he called out on strikes Arod

  50. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Hello jackamir…Hopefully we pick the next two

  51. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:42 pm

    Good AB Swish.

  52. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:42 pm

That was a very good at bat from Swish

  53. randy l. June 30th, 2012 at 1:42 pm

no doubt. the seals swim up to the town i live in and are interesting to watch. they’ll follow you in the ocean while you walk along the surf. they curious and kind of comical.

  54. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 1:43 pm

cofuzz, it wouldnt be baseball if the Yankees werent getting cheated on the strike zone.

  55. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:44 pm

    Randy,

I wouldn’t swing along with them though ;)

  56. Nick in SF June 30th, 2012 at 1:44 pm

    Youk earns a cheer!

  57. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Terrible 3-1 swing, but thanks Youk.
    Appropriate Yankee Stadium cheer.

  58. syd_cash June 30th, 2012 at 1:45 pm

    hahaha hahaha Youk

  59. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Well if the Yankees get cheated on the strike zone, that means they are even better than their record! Absolutely NO reason anyone should ever be whining about anything the Yankee players do or don’t do.

  60. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Thank you sun!! especially for making Yikeilis look dumb

  61. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Wow. Keep popping them to Youk, I guess.

  62. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:47 pm

    Once ok but twice..not happening

  63. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:48 pm

C’mon Russell. Mendoza is just a couple hits away.

  64. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 1:48 pm

    Peavy still very good

  65. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:48 pm

    Good at bat Russ

  66. Captain Clutch June 30th, 2012 at 1:48 pm

Too bad Martin had to come back. His bat is terrible and the team was doing just fine with Stewart in the lineup.

  67. Yankee Trader June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

    Wise can do it all!

  68. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

Dewayne Wise has been a revelation over the last couple weeks, and not just as a pitcher!
    ;-)

  69. Niblick June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

Martin is clueless. And helpless. And hopeless.

  70. kd June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

dwayne wise has a pretty swing.

and he kind alooks like el duque

  71. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

The almighty Wise!! He can catch…He can pitch…He can bat too

  72. Niblick June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

It’s good to see pitchers who can also hit!

  73. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 1:49 pm

MLB TV is about 3-4 seconds ahead of MLB Network. I can hear the roar before I see it LOL

  74. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 1:50 pm

Yes, the Yankees are always better than their record. 27 World Series could probably easily be 35 if things were fair.

Youk probably having problems with the sun, despite his 9 games/year at YS because he didnt play 3B that often and also Yankees/Red Sox games in past years have rarely been at 1pm. Fox games were usually 4pm EST and Sunday was usually an ESPN game.

  75. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 1:50 pm

It’s so nice when our part time players come through.

  76. LGY June 30th, 2012 at 1:51 pm

    DeWayne Wise, 6 tool player.

  77. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:52 pm

    6 tool player?
    Nice one LGY!

  78. Captain Clutch June 30th, 2012 at 1:52 pm

I am sure that Cashman is thankful everyday that Martin and his agent turned down the Yanks insane contract offer. Next year he is lucky if he even gets a third of that offer from any team.

  79. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:53 pm

There’s that ARod strike three pitch again…ball to Beckham.

  80. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 1:53 pm

    Kuroda mixing well

  81. GreenBeret7 June 30th, 2012 at 1:54 pm

So, seals are sort of like the trolls on here, huh?

  82. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Can someone please get De Aza out?

  83. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:55 pm

Piniella actually complimented O’Neill on his hitting.
    #firsttimesince1991

  84. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Are there veteran catchers that might be available at the trade deadline?

That 2-2 pitch shouldve been a strike

  85. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:56 pm

    And there’s strike three…er…ball 3.

  86. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:56 pm

He is a very good hitter

  87. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Umpire is really making Kuroda throw extra pitches.

  88. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 1:57 pm

    Got heem !

  89. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:57 pm

    And finally he is out

  90. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Hey, he’s below .500 for the series now.

  91. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:58 pm

MLB Network crawl is calling Aardsma a LHP.

  92. luis June 30th, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    Good job Kuroda san!

  93. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 1:59 pm

    Yuk Yuk ~~~

  95. Asd June 30th, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Is it just me, or is Swish’s season starting to look like 2010 again? Not booming constantly, but just a steady climb.

  96. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Kuroda has, for about the last 8-9 starts, been the pitcher I expected.

  97. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 2:01 pm

I think Swish looks darned good, in the field as well as at the plate. Hard to complain about Swish.

  98. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I get to hear Kay twice ! But the roar of the crowd tells all.

  99. astrocityfan June 30th, 2012 at 2:02 pm

Any idea why Aardsmaa was shut down? How temporary is it?

  100. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:02 pm

    A-Rod guessing

  101. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:03 pm

    Not known yet !

Any idea why Aardsmaa was shut down? How temporary is it?

  102. Captain Clutch June 30th, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Arod has had some wild swings recently. He doesn’t even look close to the hitter he used to be. He and Tex are big concerns for the organization.

  103. luis June 30th, 2012 at 2:04 pm

    He was safe at first

  104. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Damn, he see ground balls !

  105. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

  106. Against All Odds June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Crap :(

  107. I Am Winning June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Tough call by the umpire, but he was safe. Barely.

  108. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Oh dang.

  109. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Kay you ……..

  110. Captain Clutch June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    Ouch that stinks

  111. luis June 30th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

I read in RAB that it was probably two weeks

    Cano just missed that one

  112. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:07 pm

I thought A-Rod was out by a HAIR . Could have been called either way.

  113. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:07 pm

Hope we can get a couple more off Peavy

  114. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 2:07 pm

Inches from 29 fantasy points for me, down to -2.
    Dangit.

  115. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Im David Pankin! I really cant stand this guy.

  116. We Want Mo Mo June 30th, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Yes, Lou, you can have a better combination, and the White Sox might be more than 7 games over .500 with a better combination.

  117. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:13 pm

    Again, Kuroda mixing very well.

  118. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 2:14 pm

    Great inning Hiro!

  119. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:14 pm

    Kuroda, let’s hear it !!!

  120. Captain Clutch June 30th, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Time to get some more runs against Peavy!!

  121. ron June 30th, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Without kuroda,we’d be in a lot of trouble this year.

    Very professional,and very underrated.
After this game,he could be the best pitcher for us,so far.
His numbers are almost exactly the same as cc’s.

    baa,whip,era,hits per innings,except wins.

  122. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Love this kind of game. Fast and effective.

  123. luis June 30th, 2012 at 2:23 pm

    Ron,

Unfortunately his run support hasn’t been very good, otherwise he should be right there with CC and Nova

  124. jackamir June 30th, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Its funny how players play to the back of their cards. Kuroda’s a .500 pitcher w/ a low ERA

  125. luis June 30th, 2012 at 2:25 pm

    jackamir,

If the offense shows up in his starts he would be more than a .500 pitcher

  126. luis June 30th, 2012 at 2:26 pm

This is what we needed a quick inning with few pitches

  127. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Wonder if the Mets would give us Dickey for, lets say, Warren, Wade, Wise, ( he just got a big hit ) Jones, and we could “throw” in ( if we find them ) Horace Clarke, Archie Moore, ( anyone remember him? ) and Fritz Brickell ? We could tell ‘em the the last 3 are HOT prospects !

  128. jpmatrixfan88 June 30th, 2012 at 2:28 pm

This is why I laughed my ass off at people saying Kuroda was just an NL pitcher. The guy still throws 91-93, hit 94 today, with a huge arsenal. Hes a very good pitcher.

  129. 4 NYY June 30th, 2012 at 2:28 pm

Kuroda, or any pitcher, has no control over how many runs are scored for him. Just what he allows.

Well it looks like I was onto something! I absolutely love Wise and what he brings. How lucky are we to have him!

To bad we couldn.t trade for drew storen.
He lost his closers job to clippard, for now.

I also wish we took a shot at franklin morales with the rs.
He lowered his bb rate a ton,and got pulled from the pen,for the rotation.
He matched zeros with king felix for 7 innings on thursday.

    Here is an article.

LHP Franklin Morales matched zeros for seven innings Thursday night with Mariners ace Felix Hernandez. Morales allowed three hits, struck out seven and threw 109 pitches, his highest total since April 23, 2008, when he was with the Rockies. Since the Red Sox traded for him last season, Morales has substituted a splitter for his changeup. He has improved his command, issuing only 2.7 walks per nine innings compared to 5.3 with the Rockies. And since he entered the rotation, he has a 2.00 ERA, and he has struck out 24 batters and walked only three in 18 innings against the Cubs, Braves and Mariners.

  158. astrocityfan June 30th, 2012 at 2:43 pm

The only problem with playing wise is there is 0 speed on the bench for late innings. However, I say ride the hot hand and keep him in the line up.

Nova is one more clean inning away from his era dropping in the 3′s, and hughes is not far off. The yankees could have 5 starters with ERA’s in the 3′s or lower. Hard to argue that when healthy, this is a top 3 staff in baseball.

    Trisha-

I Really do think that our staff is underrated by most. Obviously i am a bit bias, but i really feel like we can win every game because of our staff. Remember when we thought pettitte would just be a nice # 3 guy? The dude is pitching like a legit ACE. I honestly think that our staff can go toe to toe with any staff in the game. I personally have always stated that i would rather have Andy Pettitte on the mound in a must win playoff game over any other pitcher in baseball. I really think he will be the difference maker for us in october this year.

  233. Niblick June 30th, 2012 at 3:14 pm

Trisha – one throw does not a catcher make. He’s pathetic at the plate, and that is costing the team plenty. But I know – there’s nothing Binder Joe likes more than a catcher who hits as poorly as he did.

  234. Tyler June 30th, 2012 at 3:14 pm

The staff has been great and we haven’t even seen a really dominant Sabathia yet. My hope is that these 2-3 starts off can get him completely healthy and even serves as a little rest so he’s really strong into October. If CC is rolling, the Yanks definitely have the 2-3-4 to win playoff series.

    Tom,

For me, it’s like war. You leave them in bloody heap and they are not a threat and don’t want to play anymore.

  245. Tabbert June 30th, 2012 at 3:19 pm

The only thing stopping the Yankees from winning over 100 games last year was AJ Burnett. He was literally the worst pitcher in baseball for the last two seasons. God knows how many games we would have won if he had not been on our staff.

  246. jr1212 June 30th, 2012 at 3:19 pm

I agree with GB7 on this. Saying that everyone is entitled to root for whoever they want even if we thinks its crazy

  247. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 3:20 pm

Tyler – I think most fans would agree with you and GB. I’m just someone who likes spreading the wealth. It’s true about Angelos, but that’s not the fault of the players who have to go out there and play the game. And not all of the teams have the resources of Angelos.

I like competition, and I want to feel that we have as even a playing field as possible. I know the Yanks are going to win it anyway, but I never want it to be based on $$$. (I know there are examples of teams doing it with small payrolls, but hopefully you know what I mean.)

Anyway, I like close games, hate blow-outs, etc. I just don’t have that “Killer” instinct.

    :)

  249. Tyler June 30th, 2012 at 3:22 pm

    trisha-

It’s crazy as a Yanks fan to say this but I wouldn’t mind a salary cap (though I don’t know how they would implement it in baseball… it would have to be a process). I’m a big hockey fan also and the parity/success of the mid-market teams has skyrocketed since they put it in the salary cap after the lockout. It really puts a general manager/ownership’s smarts to the test.

  250. tomingeorgia June 30th, 2012 at 3:22 pm

That said, i really do like crisp, well-pitched ballgames, as long as we win them all. That takes the starch out of teams, too.

  251. trisha - true pinstriped blue June 30th, 2012 at 3:23 pm

But I’m pretty greedy and competitive when it comes to my favorite sports—baseball & tennis. I want the Yankees to go 162-0 in the regular season, win every game in the post season, and I want Kim Clijsters and Novak Djokovic to win every tournament they enter until they retire!

As for the other players’ self-esteem…meh. I feel sorry for them because they’re not Yankees. That’s the closest thing to compassion that I muster up ;)

Did you know that Bjorn Borg used to be the same way? I watched an EXCELLENT documentary on his rivalry with McEnroe recently. I was stunned to learn that Borg once threw tantrums and cursed on the court…was a horrible sport. He was actually reprimanded and suspended for 6 months as a teenager. He said that was his turning point; he was so ashamed that he became the iceman that we saw in later years.

So they can’t like any celeb that roots for the red sox? sorry, but that’s a pathetic and disrespectful attittude to baseball and sports in general. Wow. I’ve never not liked a celebrity or artist because they were a Red Sox fan. Nothing wrong with Kay going to see a movie with Seth Macfarlane in it because he’s a Boston fan. Pathetic.

  349. JM June 30th, 2012 at 4:48 pm

Greetings from the Bronx….It was a rather sultry day in the bleachers today but a very nice win……Hiro looked great and we were very grateful that he worked so fast!

  350. GreenBeret7 June 30th, 2012 at 4:49 pm

    Pat,

I was never in favor of signing Kuroda, not because of a dislike, but, didn’t see a real spot for him. My mistake. He’s turning into a fortutive signing, much like Soriano has.

  351. randy l. June 30th, 2012 at 4:50 pm

nice to see kuroda destroying the myth of the national league east pitcher being unable to pitch in the big bad american league east.

of course when a pitcher is on the yankees he’s not facing their offense anyway.

  353. ron June 30th, 2012 at 4:55 pm

The ws are not far behind the yankees in runs scored per game.

    Before today that is.

  354. njsketch June 30th, 2012 at 5:08 pm

strange to think that if robertson started the 9th on thursday and phelps started yesterday instead of warren we may be up 3-0 in the series…

  355. Pat M. June 30th, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Tin Cup…….That’s the key point when it comes to The AL East and pitching for the Bronx Bombers…….I also thought your points earlier about Hughes were right on……..I clearly remember your position about Phil being called up to soon…..I on the other hand was blinded by my enthusiasm to see him in the Bigs……Ironic that he’s just getting to where he could have been had he not come up lame in the Texas night……

  356. BX33 June 30th, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Can they afford to re-sign Kuroda for 1 yr?

  357. MG June 30th, 2012 at 5:16 pm

Kuroda put on a pitching clinic today, the White Sox never had a chance against him…

  358. Bronx Jeers June 30th, 2012 at 5:20 pm

They’ve almost spent more games facing the NL East than the AL East so far.

51 out of 85 remaining games are against division foes.

  359. Pat M. June 30th, 2012 at 5:23 pm

    GB….My July 4th package arrived yesterday….Not certain what it’s contents were however it’s there…

  360. luis June 30th, 2012 at 5:34 pm

    Randy,

Just read your posts about Hughes…I agree completely on all counts…He was rushed, he endured tough times and finally he has learned and has overcome the struggles…They should extend him right now before he gets too expensive.

One thing I agree with YF is that there is a lot of boneheaded fans that tend to have very little patience and have knee jerk reactions like they did last night.

    Pat M,

Hiroki Huroda has been quite an addition to the team.

I’m anchoring sports here in Fresno tonight.
Yankee highlights might seem out of place in a local newscast, but…

  362. yankeefeminista June 30th, 2012 at 5:38 pm

YF, would be nice to see Bleich get back to Trenton this year, even in relief.
    ________
GB, yes it would be. He still has a long way to go, but I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

    Also as per Ashmore:
“Tony Franklin told me Abe Almonte’s DL trip is more precautionary than anything else.”

    That’s good news!

  363. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 5:41 pm

I’ll be sneaking Wise shots in there with Fresno Grizzlies, Visalia Rawhide, and SF Giants highlights.

  364. luis June 30th, 2012 at 5:45 pm

Then YF is only two weeks…We might get a chance to see him in Pinstripes after all ;)

Got your message…I’ll be answering tonight or tomorrow ;)

  365. yankeefeminista June 30th, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Luis, he has been playing so well. I had hoped to see him and Zoilo again this week when I went to Betances’ start but it is still good news. It just seems like even the Trenton position players cannot stay on the field at the same time.

Sounds good. I will look for it. ;)

  366. luis June 30th, 2012 at 5:58 pm

    YF,

If you see JAP, please say hi to him…Got to go, But i’ll join later..Have a good one.

  367. Bo knows June 30th, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Most people won’t care here. That said – Justin Schultz now an Oiler. Woot, woot. Now, a true second line center and we’re gathering steam, (clash of big wheels), woot.

  368. yankeefeminista June 30th, 2012 at 6:07 pm

    luis, will do!

Bp knows, good for the Oilers! I heard Gretzky and Coffey were in on the recruitment process. :)

  372. cofuzz June 30th, 2012 at 6:28 pm

Don’t know how much Thome helps the Orioles, but he’ll be a challenge in YS3.

    ====================================

Used to live in Fresno. Brother lives there now. He’s about as north as you can get without being in Madera.

I used to go to John M. Euless Park and see “to be” Giants like Jim Ray Hart, Bobby Bonds, Randy Hundley, and a few others. Also went to Visalia park and Bakersfield a few times. They were all class A then. Even saw Murakami, the first Japanese player to appear in MLB. Good old days.

  374. randy l. June 30th, 2012 at 6:48 pm

thome has had an amazing career.

and there’s no PED performance spike in there either.

just an old fashioned country hard ball player.

  375. mick June 30th, 2012 at 6:54 pm

shook hands with Thome, he nearly broke it. such a nice guy..

  376. mick June 30th, 2012 at 6:56 pm

met him in fla when he was with cleve.
he was alone in the park hitting em out of the park from the plate off a tee.

  377. Pat M. June 30th, 2012 at 6:58 pm

Buck and his O’s are making a statement of sorts…….Can they wrestle a wild card berth from the BoSox and or Tampa ????? Texas / Angels will secure the other WC….

  378. jmills June 30th, 2012 at 10:11 pm
