Weather: Very hot, 95 on the thermometer

Homer binge by All-Star: Robinson Cano has hit a ball out in eight of his last 13 games, batting .367 over that span. He has 15 homers in his last 35 games. He started out with four homers in his first 42 games. Cano is the first Yankees second baseman to earn three straight All-Star starts from the fans.

CC All-Star: CC Sabathia was picked for the sixth time as an All-Star, but he’s on the DL.

Wise’s bat: Dewayne Wise has homered in two of his last four games with an at-bat.

Update, 2:10: Two batters and the White Sox are already up 1-0. RBI single for Youkilis.

Update, 2:12: Great diving play by Jeter to save a run, but Rios follows with the RBI single anyway, 2-0.

Update, 2:22: Bases loaded, no outs for the Yankees. Cano up.

Update, 2:24: Cano bounces into a 1-2-3 double play.

Update, 2:27: Floyd worked out of that mess nicely, Swisher goes down swinging to strand two in scoring position.

Update, 2:43: Eric Chavez hits No.6, two-run shot to second deck in right, so it’s 2-2 here in the second.

Update, 2:56: Hughes strands two in scoring position after a single and double with two outs in the third.

Update, 3:06: Cano hits the 20-homer mark, two-run shot in the third, 4-2 Yankees.

Update, 3:23: Hughes finally has a 1-2-3 inning, fanning two.

Update, 3:38: Hughes has two straight 1-2-3 innings now.

Update, 3:52: NY Post has Yankees acquiring righty reliever Chad Qualls from the Phillies for player to be named or cash. Qualls is 33. He was 1-1 with a 4.60 ERA in 35 games.

Update, 4:07: Floyd is done with Wise on second and one out in the sixth. Lefty Leyson Septimo is on.

Update, 4:10: Septimo strands Wise, 4-2 after six.

Update, 4:16: Phil Hughes has a three-hitter — since the first. Heading for last of the seventh.

Update, 4:34: Hughes has completed eight, having retired 16 of his last 17.

Update, 4:40: Yankees officially announce the move for Qualls. But another move has to be made to clear room on the 40-man roster.

Update, 4:45: Soriano is on for the ninth. Hughes allowed two runs and six hits over eight.

Update, 4:55: Yankees win 4-2, combined six-hitter to gain the split of the four-game series.
