Do games like this happen between other franchises? It was a wild one from the beginning, and it was decided when Mark Teixeira drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a seventh-inning triple that stunned Fenway Park into near silence. Even from the press box, you could hear Teixeira’s single hand clap when he reached third base having dealt the decisive blow in a 10-8 Yankees win in the opener of this four-game series against the Red Sox. Teixeira had four RBI in the game, two of them in a five-run top of the first that seemed to give the Yankees a massive advantage. The Red Sox, though, scored five runs of their own in the bottom of the first and rallied for a 7-6 lead before Teixeira big hit off his old nemesis, Vicente Padilla. There were a total of 28 hits as the Yankees overcame one of Hiroki Kuroda’s few rocky starts this season.
