It is impossible to figure Joe’s lineup from day to day.
Great to have the depth we have…

Granderson, Banuelos and Phelps for Justin Upton?

Can’t do it til Gardner is healthy.

    ————————-

I don’t think they would want Grandy but who knows for sure

Really, guys need to sit when the AS break begins the day after tomorrow?

  4. mick July 7th, 2012 at 10:58 am

Joe has gotten a lot out of this bench and these guys are grateful for giving them a shot to play.
Another reason I liked the McDonald pickup.

My guess is GM’s just do Not have any idea how to play the July 31 Trade Deadline, now that there is an Extra Wild Card and NO draft compensation. Current GM’s are Not gamblers, and like to steer clear of uncharted terrritory. I believe it will be a bland July, with several last minute deals on July 31. Till then, July will be filled with a lotta noise\chatter concerning Upton, Hamels, Greinke, etc, but GM’s are Not gonna pull-the-trigger till Forced to do so July 31. Offensively, the Yanks can do Nothing of note on the trade front, till they know what Gardner’s physical status is. Pitching wise, I see them adding a proven set-up guy, due to Girardi having done his own rendition of Sherman’s March To The Sea with the Yankee Bullpen.

I like the lineup… older team with four games in three days

  7. Tabbert July 7th, 2012 at 11:09 am

Trading Grandy for Upton is retarded. We would need to land upton with the hopes of having him, grandy, and Cano’s bats in the lineups. Thus, giving us a much better offense. Getting rid of grandy would actually make us worse on offense. Not to mention, Arizona would not want granderson. They would want young prospects.

  8. mick July 7th, 2012 at 11:09 am

    Depth.

  9. blake July 7th, 2012 at 11:10 am

I like it….get your offensive catcher in there in Game 1!

  10. 86w183 July 7th, 2012 at 11:12 am

I’d be surprised if the Yanks do anything major.

the trading deadline is more motivated by “buyers” than usual because teams that haven’t had many chances lately — Cleveland, Kansas city, Baltimore and Pittsburgh have real chances at the post-season.

Keep an eye on those teams that are 10+ games back. They will be the first to move in terms of making their guys available… especially the Phillies.

  11. blake July 7th, 2012 at 11:12 am

Dbacks wouldn’t want Granderson….if they trade Upton it’s to get young pieces to build around and that are controlled long term….they might take Grandy as a piece….but they’d have to be a lot to go with it I’d think…..and trading Granderson for Upton makes the Yankees worse in the short term….I want Upton and Granderson…at least for the next 2 years.

  12. Tabbert July 7th, 2012 at 11:13 am

its suppose to stop raining at 12PM then start back up again at 5PM. Not sure if they will get both of these games in.

  13. mick July 7th, 2012 at 11:15 am

So I guess Alex DH’s the 2nd game and DMac goes to LF.

By the way the Diamondbacks are not in cost-cutting mode and they are only six games back. If they move Upton it will be at least in part for guys that can contribute on the MLB level.

A-Rod is really being treated with kid gloves, which is a shame because he’s showing signs of hitting top form. My suspicion is that he is some way below 100 percent fitness and has been for some time.

  17. DONNYBROOK July 7th, 2012 at 11:17 am

You guys are just giving Granderson away with these imaginary trades for Upton. I understand the free agency\$$$ issues concerning Grandy but come on.

  18. DONNYBROOK July 7th, 2012 at 11:20 am

Agree concerning A-Rod’s physical condition, but it’s called “old age” and the residual effects of steroid use. The man is breaking down. We saw it with Giambi, and the same is Now underway with A-Rod.

  19. mick July 7th, 2012 at 11:20 am

Ray Allen turns down 9m to play in Miami.
    Wow!

    ———————–

So they would be targeting guys like Nova or Hughes?

  21. Tabbert July 7th, 2012 at 11:24 am

Its pretty much 90+ all over the country right now. Why on earth would any manager play guys that are 35+ years old in two games that would go on over 7+ hours in that kind of heat? That’s just a ridiculous notion. We don’t need any of our players to have a heat stroke today, just because you want them to play both games. Remember there is also a game tomorrow and they played late into the night last night. Yes, the all star break is coming… but these guys are human.

  22. 86w183 July 7th, 2012 at 11:26 am

Sorry but I’ve never been a fan of make believe trades in which the Yankees give up guys hitting .246 and guys with ERAs of 5 + in Trenton for All-Stars.

Upton would carry a huge price tag in either MLB talent or superb prospects or a combination thereof. I have not endorsed any particular package… just sharing thoughts.

Mick —- I wrote on the last thread that the Commissioner should investigate the Heat. That’s now EIGHT players who have taken significantly less money to sign with them. That might be half the guys in the history of the NBA to do so.

  23. Against All Odds July 7th, 2012 at 11:33 am

Guys always take less money to play for a contending team. Karlone went from making 19 mil for the Jazz to 1 mil just to play with Kobe and Shaq

  24. mick July 7th, 2012 at 11:33 am

you think Mia. is paying them under the table?

  25. RadioKev July 7th, 2012 at 11:36 am

This is probably the best bench we’ve had since the 90s.
