Blake – here’s a Shelby Miller trade for you.

    Boston gets: Miller and Tavarez

    St. Louis gets: Jon Lester

The over/under that Chad’s gonna ban me if I keep posting as Chad’s Girls lol.

I swear I wish I knew the first person that actually did it.. upstate kate and Erin thought it was me and I thought it was one of them! The culprit is still out there..

  3. jpmatrixfan88 July 12th, 2012 at 12:14 pm

I would trade Phelps for Tavarez. Little shaky on Hughes for Miller.

Ronnier Mustelier’s an interesting case… he could be a late bloomer. Never realized he played the OF too, I just thought he was an IF guy. Thanks for the info Chad. Even though you continue to ignore my extremely subtle advances.

    Chip,

Thats interesting……but Boston would really have to want to move on from Lester to do that Id say….

Unless the Yanks acrually use Sorianos money to do something then him opting out makes them worse.

Nah, Yanks can always get a draft compensation pick.

Nah, Yanks can always get a draft compensation pick.

They would have to offer him the 1 year deal worth 12-13 million. And the Yankees never offered the less risky arbitration, so I’m not sure that is going to happen.

Blake your question about Yogi vs. Martin was hilarious. Have to say I was a liitle worried until I saw the end of your comment…

ronnier Mustelier, Corban Joseph, David Adams and Nunez gives NY a lot of depth at 2b position.Mustelier seem to be a good candidate for super U next year. despite Nix’s surprising offensive stats in the first half, I think Yanks can do better offensively than him. Question would be if any of the 4 above can play adequate D at multiple positions.

  10. blake July 12th, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Yea its a touch….I think Yogi might make more contact… Russ probably would have him in the power department :)

  11. Cashmoney July 12th, 2012 at 12:57 pm

my concern is if this team can emotionally handle de facto capt Martin’s possible departure this off season. there is no advance stats to measure that… i mean, really.

Who will fake hate the Red Sox when Martin is gone?

  13. jpmatrixfan88 July 12th, 2012 at 1:01 pm

    Shame,

Mustellier isn’t a late bloomer. We signed him out of Cuba last year. Not like he has been in the minors for 8 years and is breaking out or something.

    Blake –

It would be a bold move for Boston. Lester’s still only 28 and he’s probably been Boston’s most reliable starter over the last few years – but would getting two top prospects (and possibly another piece) make it worth their while and set them up to contend next year?

Theoretically they could get a similar package for Josh Beckett – though Beckett’s contract might hold up St. Louis from making that move.

Either way – it would certainly send a message to RSN that the team is shaking up the culture.

    Re: Russ Martin –

I still think the most likely scenario is that he returns on a 1 year deal. The Yankees love him behind the plate and given this year I don’t think there will be much of a demand for his services. And it isn’t like the Yankees have a ton of other options. Yes they can maybe, possibly, work Austin Romine in if he’s healthy, but if not they aren’t going to spend a lot of money on any of the other FA’s.

One of the dangers of having such a good record at the ASB is that it could lull Cashman into thinking the team doesn’t need to make moves. Afterall if it ain’t broke why fix it. The team is definitely built to win the regular season (talent & depth), but the post season is more about somebody getting hot (can’t plan for that) and impact, game changing players. Don’t have much confidence that ARod, Tex, or Swish can do that. Don’t think Cashman will make a move for a game changer.
