It’s been a good month so far

Andruw Jones has been around the game long enough, been interviewed at his locker often enough, that he knew the “right” thing to say after Sunday’s game. He’d just gone 2-for-5 with a home run, which came just one day after he hit three homers in a Saturday doubleheader. He was asked whether — when he’s that hot — he’d rather just keep playing and not have an All-Star break.

“Not really,” Jones said. “Not after yesterday. I barely made it today.”

A break is good for everyone, and you can bet the Yankees were happy to have a few days off, no matter how well they were playing. Truth is, so far, it’s been a good month for the Yankees. They’re 5-3 in July, which doesn’t seem like much until you realize it’s a .625 winning percentage. The pitching staff has a 3.78 ERA this month, but it’s the offense that’s stood out, hitting .287/.358/.495 as a team during the eight games leading into the break.

Here are the individual Yankees’ numbers in the month of July. A lot of these guys would love to have these numbers carry into the second half.
