Weaver vs. Yankees
TIME/TV: 1:05 p.m., YES Network and TBS
WEATHER: It was raining earlier, but I haven’t seen a drop in about three hours. The forecast calls for possible thunderstorms, but it looks like it may hold off until later in the afternoon. It’s around 86 degrees right now, and very humid.
UMPIRES: HP Tim Welke, 1B Laz Diaz, 2B Mike Everitt, 3B Paul Schrieber
PULLING AWAY: The Yankees enter today’s game with the best record in the majors to go along with the largest division lead in MLB. With yesterday’s 5-3 win, they tied their season-high lead of eight games.
SWEEPING SENSATION: The Yankees will be looking for their eighth series sweep of the season today, which is just one shy of last year’s total. It would also mark the first their first sweep of the Angels in a series of three games or more since 2003.
COMEBACK KIDS: The Yankees lead the majors with 29 come-from-behind wins this season, with no other team having more than 25. They are on pace to have the second-highest total in team history. The franchise record of 61 come-from-behind wins was set in 2004.
(Note: I’ll be updating the action here every so often, but I’ll be much more active on Twitter. To join the conversation, follow me @vzmercogliano.)
UPDATE, 1:16 p.m.: Nova gave up back-to-back homers to Aybar and Pujols in the first to give the Angels a 2-0 lead. Neither was a cheapie, but Nova bounced back with two straight strikeouts to end the inning.
UPDATE, 1:31 p.m.: A-Rod evens the score at 2-2 with a blast over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the first. That was a very good sign, as A-Rod stayed back on the ball and put a beautiful opposite field swing on it. The homer broke a stretch of 49 at-bats without a long ball for A-Rod (and he’s not DHing!). The Yanks hit the ball hard off of Weaver in the first, with Cano lacing a single to center to tie his career-high hitting streak of 18 games.
UPDATE, 1:44 p.m.: Jeter gives the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the second on an RBI single with two outs, but he got tagged out after taking a big turn towards second to end the inning.
UPDATE, 2:50 p.m.: The Angels have retaken the lead thanks to a sac fly from Callaspo and a two-run homer from Izturis. It’s 5-3 in the sixth, in large part thanks to some sloppy play from the Yankees on the basepaths. They’ve run themselves out of an inning or two.
UPDATE, 3:04 p.m.: Nova is done after 6+ innings. He didn’t have his best stuff today, but kept things from getting completely out of hand. Chad Qualls is coming in with runners on the corners and no outs. It’s 5-4 Angels after Granderson hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth.
UPDATE, 3:52 p.m.: The Yankees just can’t seem to stop the bleeding. After the Angels scored three runs in the eighth, Trumbo just led off the ninth with a laser over the left field wall. It’s 10-5 Angels.

“Great job Sori. BTW who is the genius who wanted to sign him
”
I think it would be I to whom you are referring?
Hey all. I did cartwheels when the Yankees signed Soriano. I wanted him so bad it hurt. And I didn’t care about the contract because I typically don’t involve myself in other peoples’ money, especially if it isn’t coming out of my pocket!
Love him, love him, love him, love him, love him.
***************
I’ve been MIA for a bit, partly because I needed a break away from my total disgust at the way Ron Washington plissed away another ASG, partly because I was almost apopletic about all the new stuff coming out about Penn State, and partly because I was out of town a few days.
mick, looks like we called it right on the money about the heroic “Joe Pa” didn’t we – despite all the crap we took for it. All I could think, from jump street, was that no matter what he was told, if his grandson was the one in the shower with Sandusky, his (in)actions would not have been the same. Now we find out he was up to his neck in it.

I love Joba. These guys are almost magic. I guess I am never surprised that they come back as quickly as they do (well some of them – still waiting for poor Gardy). Ah to be young and athletic!

Some church business today (I’m the parish attorney – not a paying position of course – benefits in heaven, if I ever get there, ha ha
) Today is their annual feast. So I get to go and bake outside in the heat and humidity. Hopefully I’ll escape in time to see some of today’s game.)
GO YANKS!!!
GO IVAN!!!
GO RAYS!!!
Go Nova/Vato/El hombre/El Guerrero!! Go Yankees!!
Weaver pitching today. Wish I could see the whole game. Should be a good one.
Later.
Let’s go, boys!
Finally someone got Trout
Austinmac,
It aids the budget by signing them this winter by locking in their cost. The yanks will know how much money they have left to build the rest of the roster. If they wait until after 2013 season there will be a lot of moving targets going into that offseason.
Damn
Welcome back Trisha. I hope all is well. Tough task today.
Ummmm wtf
I am at marlin park on a pilgrimmage to the Dinger Machine and Darth Vader threw out the first pitch, lefty and did not even make it to the dirt around home plate. Poor showing from the Dark Lord Of The Sith.
Double damn
That’s not good.
Oy vey!! When is BP over.
Right down the middle. Twice.
Ump better not give Weaver those low borderline pitches.
Good way to bounce back…He needs to pitch backwards to this guys
C’mon Nova. That’s enough.
Over? Over? Nothing is over ’til we decide it is…
Alright, so far Weaver doesn’t look impressive
I think Weaver is having control problems…We should take advantage of it before he settles down
There we go!
Arod!!! Gb7 Maybe you were right after all
Alex aint no DH.
ABOMB by AROD!!!!!!
That’s the type of homer that tells you that Arod might be getting in a roll
That Arod guy is washed up.
I agree, Luis. Power to RF…
You could see from Jeter’s AB, he was all over Weaver. It would be great to pile on early before he settles down.
Even Jeter’s out was a loud one…Come on guys
Weaver hasn’t fooled anybody yet
Every ball hit on the nose. Let’s get this guy now.
Spike Lee has an enchanted life…
I have the TBS feed…Do you guys know the pitch count on Weaver?
Arod has bailed out nova. Hope he settles down.
Hey Luis
21
Come on!! that was almost a foot outside!
Weaver currently at 20 pitches with swishers 2-0 count.
Hey Tar!
Good to see you around man! thanks!
Hi guys! Hi Trish! – I looked up Longfellow, thanks. Six feet under for all the complicit individuals at Penn state. Nothing worse than taking advantage of a young being . Looking forward to playing your team. Best!
Thanks Luis
Been real busy. I will be in and out today as well.
26 pitches for Weaver after the first.
The Speedy Eephus. That’s tough .
We are back on the game…Nova, 123 inning…We need Weaver back in the mound quick
Tar,
We need the good guys around more often than not
Great play by Grandy there….Nova, keep the ball down
Fb on the outside corner
AROD—-25 Hrs. & 80 RBI’s… Are you satisfied?
jackamir,
If you think contract wise….No….But he is 36 years old now, so I would say yes.
Atta boy Nova
There’s your quick inning, luis!
Shutdown inning on 8 pitches. Good bounce back….
Nova had a good inning…But he is leaving the ball up in the zone…I hope he adjusts
jackamir July 15th, 2012 at 1:35 pm
AROD—-25 Hrs. & 80 RBI’s… Are you satisfied?
========================
Will have to be ! LOL
Not one single pitch has been a strike on the k zone. Chavy!!
Tom,
He is a gentleman…He pleases the croud!
*crowd* that is
Glad to see Martin up there swinging ! ( and bunting ) LOL
Lousy bunt, Russell.
Love what Chavez brings to this team….
Jeter hits it hard again.
El Capitan!!
El Capitan!!!!! But he got fooled by the cutoff…..
Rare base-running blunder by Jeter. I will trade that for the run any day of the week against Weaver that’s for sure!
Ok, we got the lead….Nova keep it here
Wow, you don’t see that play everyday especially w/ Jeter..
39 straight games scoring 3 runs or more for the Yanks. Amazing.
Chavez must have gotten an excellent jump. Thought they would have a shot at him.
Weaver’s fastball is nothing to write home about…..he is all about the change up
Nice way to put up a quick run early in the game. Angels gotta be scratching their head a bit after that one.
Small ball! LOL.
Bear down Vato…Don’t walk this guy…The Ump does have a wide zone
Atta boy
Don’t give in
Fun question – what brother combination have the most HR’s? And pitching, Niekro or Perry brothers?
Wow!!!
GRANDY!!!!!! what a play!!
Willie Mays right there.
Holy smokes!
Don’t ever say Grandy can’t, cause he can !!!!!!!!
Wow. Call the Cops….Trout was robbed.
out-Trouted
Fantastic ! Just a fabulous play!!
Hi Jmills….The Niekro brothers
Fun question – what brother combination have the most HR’s? And pitching, Niekro or Perry brothers?
—————–Tommy and Hank Aaron
Proving once again that UZR is a ridiculous statistic.
I’ll take outs of any kind, buy I’d like to see Nova get more on the ground.
That was an almost guaranteed triple, possible inside the parker homer by Trout. For how shallow Granderson plays that is an unbelievable catch. Trout had to be thinking triple or more as soon as he hit it.
The Grandyman can.
nothing easy about that 3 up 3 down inning.
Good inning by Nova with an incredible assist by granderson
This ump is so bad
Quick question, is Bourjos available? If so do we want him and what would give up to get him?
This aint weavers day he’ll won’t see the 6th.
Greg and Luis,…….you win! Drive up and collect your prize
It is very hard to hit with an Ump with such a bad and moving k zone
jmills July 15th, 2012 at 1:54 pm
Greg and Luis,…….you win! Drive up and collect your prize
==================
be right there
up the middle and an oppo homer…Arod is going to get on a roll
Gotta be close with Perrys and Niekros !
39 straight games 3 runs or more is a single season franchise record.
Is the offense really that inconsistent?
Atta boy Robbie…Tex, a long fly will do
I said yesterday or earlier today the some Yankees have good numbers off Weaver
Should be 3-0
Base running ?
Great base running, guys.
Ugh, that was ugly.
OMG two baserunning blunders on the same play…i hope the baseball gods are merciful
wow only the Yankees
Eech. Is that on the base coaches?
Damn A-Rod should had gone as the defender was falling.
I like ARods play to run home, by why not sooner? He was out by a mile.
Jeter, Cano, ARod gave Weaver 3 outs. Good thing for Weaver, because the Yankees were ready to take on a few more runs.
Enough of the small ball. You can’t screw up baserunning if you hit a homer.
Utterly speechless after that just speechless
The next kangaroo court should be fun…fines galore.
Pretty obvious Weaver was going to donthe third-to-first pickoff move there. No excuses for that play, yikes.
Looked like a hit and run and Robbie just jumped too quick.
Jeter didn’t give Weaver an extra out. It was just a good play by the Angels
Don’t drop your arm slot Ivan…
Got lucky there on that Pujols foul homer
Igotid,
spot on on the foul
Kay is extra mundane when he talks about stats.
Rothschild, time to go to talk to Ivan
jmills July 15th, 2012 at 1:54 pm

==================================
What were the totals for the pitching brothers ?
He is overthrowing and his arm slot is lower than usual…Phew!!
Ibanez is a greyhound, isn’t he?
Angels channeling the Yankees there with the bases loaded
good job by nova
Nova “Houdini’d” that inning…
They need to take good a long at bats here…Nova needs a break
He is going with the CB on the outside corner
we need back Bobby Meacham at 3rd…hard to believe we’ve had so many guys struck down in the primes of their lives on the bases this season…is ther eany way to tell if we lead the league in that category too?
Swisher put together two tough at bats. He seems to be getting away from the hack at the first strike approach and instead is working the count. Good for the Yanks.
Silly rule change on the third to first move. Next year it’s a balk.
Beckett got touched for 3 in the first. 3-1 Rays
we all love Ibanez and ouldn’t have done it without him early on, but is it time to try another lefty at DH for a week?
Who was first switch hitter to have 30 Hr’s and 50 doubles in a season?
Hint : He’s still active.
The 5th is an important inning for Nova.
Texeira
4 NYY,
Could it be our stalwart first baseman?
We have Fukudome, Cust, & Branyan all at AAA ???
Nova doesn’t have the CB today and his Fb command is off…I think it is mechanical ( arm slot to low), but still manages to compete…Amazing
Bear down Ivan

Could it be our stalwart first baseman?
======================
No, sorry.
Ibanez flashing the speed!! Good inning Nova
The greyhound, again!
Ibanez may not be fast, but he goes hard.
Carlos Beltran?
Larry jones?
Lance Berkman
Raul just told Girardi , I thought I was brought here to DH?
luis July 15th, 2012 at 2:20 pm
Texeira
===========================
No, sorry. Another hint : We once had him here with Yanks.
Nova goes right after Pujols after he stings the ball each of his first two at bats. Nova has no fear. It’s his best quality. I think the entire team feeds off the kid’s confidence, leading to better run support when he pitches. An ace in the making.
Bernie Williams? He hasn’t retired yet, so theoretically he is active
No, & no
Nice bloop Chavy

Did now ! CORRECT !!!
That’s 4 outs on the bases. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
It’s ironic how a .175 hitter can’t even bunt.
Bernie is on this year’s HOF ballot.
Not good.
the most creative team in the league! Gptta love it
both of these pitchers have been playing with fire
I give up….Who is it 4 NYY?

I give up….Who is it 4 NYY?
——————-
Melancon trade
Lance Berkman??!!! wow would have never guessed
I hope that the baseball gods keep on forgiving us
Please let the Martin experiment end after this season….
Isn’t Berkman close to coming back? Saw him on the bench last night. Wonder if he’ll turn back into a pumpkin this summer
Weaver went from 25 pitches in the first to 60 in the 6th
One more : Who is only player to have hit 40 HR’s and had 120 RBI in each league ?
Nope, we won’t be forgiven this time around
Big trouble here !!! Knew we needed more runs !!! Base running may be the killer today.
Frank Robinson
I remember a quote via Mickey Rivers. ” No use worrying about things you can’t do anything about, because if you can’t do anything about them, no use worrying. No use worrying about things you can do things about, ’cause if you can do things about them,…..no use worrying.” Tom Cheek ( R.I.P ), and Jerry Howarth related this radio story some time around ’83.

Sorry, more recent.
Ellsworth I don’t recall seeing you in here for quite a while. I thought you were long gone.
Welcome back.
You won’t believe the Yankee contract rule I found! I don’t know if they even use it, but it’s there for the taking:
Any Yankee fan who makes any mental error during the life of his conract will be responsible for making a public apology to all fans once the game is terminated. Any fans who are psychologically damaged by any mistake(s) made by any Yankee player are eligible for compensatory damages.* Damages shall include termination of the player’s contract, and/or life-time seasons tickets, and/or monetary damages.
* – fans who can proven to be psychologically damaged by every Yankee mistake or error, or fans who can be proven to be psychologically damaged only by a specific Yankee player’s mistakes or errors will not be eligible for compensatory damages. (example: if a fan wishes death only to a specific Yankee player but allows life to other Yankee players who make the same mistakes or errors, that fan will not be eligible for compensatory damages.)

GO IVAN!!!!!

Uncle Ellsworth!!!
Miguel Cabrera
Grandy flashing leather today!!!!!!!
A lot of hard hit balls in this game, both teams.
GRANDY CAN !!!
2 game saving catches by the Grandyman
Another awesome catch…Maybe he gets the lead back
GregD July 15th, 2012 at 2:43 pm
Miguel Cabrera
=================
No, sorry.
Grandy can’t field. Stats say so.
j mills – love the Rivers quote! It’s really brilliant when you think about it.
And thanks for looking up Longfellow. That was sweet.
******************
GRANDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cap tip to Tar and Fran, both of whom pointed out the value of Granderson’s defense when much of the forum wanted him sent to Sing Sing last season.
The yanks have sure wasted some opportunities. Angels could be ahead by 3 or 4 if not for granderson
Miguel Cabrera?
I’ve heard a number of comments that Granderson is not that good defensively…..I think this proves otherwise today
hard to sweep championship caliber teams, even at home
Jim Thome
Fricking nova.
Balls flying out of the Stadium.
Life happens.
Come on Nova, you can’t be giving up HR to Aybar and Izturis
Even Grandy couldn’t catch that one, alas.
I consider myself,” eligible.”
Well…..It figures
now is about when we wish Weaver’s pitch count was higher…it’s really gonna burn Scioscia when the Yanks walk off today
Nova giving up too many XBH’s again. Can’t win ‘em all.
“I’ve heard a number of comments that Granderson is not that good defensively”
Stupid is as stupid does.
Lucky he’s had only three balls leave the park. He’s been hit hard all day.
Saw that coming. He still won’t lose though
Why does Rothschild always wait until after the fact to warm guys up?
Mark McGwire.
Mark McGwire
Nova has struggled all day
jmills, you sure would be eligible!!! I think I could probably get a player dumped PLUS seasons tickets PLUS monetary damages.
Just a bad game for the most part so far with a few bright spots.. A-Rods HR and Grandy’s D.
The way they have hit weaker today it’s really stupid to give 4 outs away
that little league baserunning DP was one of the was actually one of the more imaginative ways we pissed oursleves into a tough spot all year…would be satisfying if the Yanks overcome even that one…scary what our record would be with better baserunning and RISP

Think Toronto- L.A.
An easy one: Who pitched no-hitters in both leagues, then served in Congress?
Grandy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn’t Kay say LEFT field ?
Guess Grandy has to do it all himself!
This is Grandy mans game!!
I knew it…He was due….Unfortunately, Nova gave up that homer..Otherwise that was the lead back
See…??
Really stupid to give him outs…. On a positive note it means he’s still on the hill!
Jim Bunning
Bunning !
Granderson must like NovaG
Ugly hack from Cano
What HOF’er had the best debut on the mound ?
THE HOUSE THAT CASHMAN AND GIRARDI BUILT!
Greg and 4,
I said it was an easy one!
remember when no one could be sure that Jered would ever be any better than Jeff? This kid is a strike throwing machine and can dominate ANY lineup, even the Yanks’ lefties
I know there has been a lot of talk about trading Granderson. But man, what a dynamic, game-changing player this team would lose who does nothing but represent the team in the right way. I say extend him.
Penn St. tear down that statue…
Speaking of stupid, anyone want to complain about Cano?
Arod and cano swinging at balls out of the zone.
“I know there has been a lot of talk about trading Granderson”
Stupid is as stupid does…
well we are staying close
4 runs in 6 inn is dominating? And they’ve been handing him outs.
mick – amazing isn’t it? Do you think there’s a special place in hell for that entire crew?
Shawn Green.
“4 runs in 6 inn is dominating? And they’ve been handing him outs.”
Only in the land of the scaredy cat boys!
BJ – maybe only in spurts today, but you know what I mean….don’t pull an exact words argument on me like I was Greg Brady
These guys are worn out back there. Why is Nova still in?
Four outs on lousy base running has helped Mr. Weaver have only a 6.00 ERA today
stunned Nova is still out there… life’s rough with no clue where your fastball is going.
“These guys are worn out back there. Why is Nova still in?”
Is anybody up?
He is going for third
Nova is toast but I guess Girardi wants to save the Bullpen.

Dat’s the ONE !
“Nova is toast but I guess Girardi wants to save the Bullpen.”
Missed the last two games. Has the pen been overused? And do we have a game tomorrow?
typical girardi, leaving the starter in too long and letting the game get out of hand.
Ecch. Bye Nova.
Talk about closing the barn door after the horses escape.
Will be lucky to be only down 2 heading into bottom 7.
Girardi tried to save the bullpen….didn’t work……..
I don’t get why they let Nova out for the 7th…It was clear that he didn’t have his best stuff today ( No CB, no FB command and IMO an arm slot to low which was causing the troubles with the CB and the FB)…He already gave you 6 innings, why push it?…
We will see some heat from the Angel’s pen today. Can we beat the heat ?

Not a stupid suggestion per se. Yanks will have to make hard decisions with the forthcoming payroll limits. This is just one I would not pursue.
This is what I don’t get about Girardi. He doesn’t let Hughes complete 2 games he’s dominating. But leaves Nova in when he doesn’t have his stuff today.
“typical girardi, leaving the starter in too long and letting the game get out of hand.”
Imagine if he managed well. The Yanks would probably be in first place, 8 games ahead of the closest team, and have the best record in the majors!
Oh wait a minute…
I am starting to come around and admit that G-man leaves guys in too long…sometimes way too long
Not a good day for Nova…
He’s still learning do get it done on days where the stuff is not there..
classic joe girardi.
No the pen isn’t tired. They just had 4 days off and only Soriano has pitched the last two games.
What HOF’er had the best debut on the mound ?
=========================
Gotta run, the answer is Juan Marichal with a 1-hitter.
tucker, absolutely stupid IMO. Unequivocally stupid, only to be trumped by the suggestion to trade Cano.
Now hopefully the Yankees won’t be stupid.
GO CHAD QUALLS!!!
lets see what Mr Qualls has

shut up turd. this is a well known folly of his.
Trout steal home here? Or a squeeze?
I guess Girardi thought that he was already playing with money on the bank, having won the two previous games
It’s always a balancing act as to how much rope to give a starter in order to get adequate length out of the rotation.
He nursed Nova thru 6 and got greedy.
Generally I think Girardi has done a great job handling the pitching staff. My biggest gripe has been carrying 12 arms, which is inane and the 6-man rotation last year which screwed up CC
Frozen Rope – no compensatory damages for you!
That was ugly by nice pitch to get that GB
well we will take that
Geesh,……I thought I was worth more than that
“I guess Girardi thought that he was already playing with money on the bank, having won the two previous games”
And you know what they say separates managers who are geniuses from managers who are idiots: the move working out.
Tough day for Nova but why would Girardi leave Nova in to start the 7th? The game is close and you would expect that Girardi would want to keep it that way. Just an inexplicable decision.
Just have to come back a little further!
Juan Marichal a perfect game into the seventh and 12 strikeouts.
Google is your friend.
Hate when Michael Kay says the “old Jeff Nelson”‘for the third-to-first pickoff move when pitchers have been doing that move for decades.
It’s never stupid to consider trading anyone if the price is right.
Even Cano.
If the Rays offer Longoria, Price and Zobrist you turning them down?
Can Trumbo go 600 feet?
jmills – your compensatory damages were’s specified. I’d say you’d easily get lifetime seasons tickets. You know how much they cost!!!
Good job by Quaills
Trumbo only 530 feet short of 600
we can still come back
Trisha, that is easy to say. How would you get the teammunder $187 million? The team is going to need to make some unpopular decisions to achieve that goal.
“It’s never stupid to consider trading anyone if the price is right.
Even Cano.
If the Rays offer Longoria, Price and Zobrist you turning them down?”
I’d have to check with the tooth fairy first.
And even then, I’d think twice about it.
I’m old school. You don’t dump gems.
Agreed! I’ll take the tickets!!!
tucker, I have faith.
jmills, they are definitely yours. I read the rule again. You’ll get them no question.
You know Trisha, with all due respect….But you can’t call those moves stupid in light of the budget limitations…The old Yankee way is over…They need to trade present for future in order to get younger and cost controlled…Unless you want to see a Yankee team that resembles more a nursing home than a baseball team…I don’t mind that you don’t agree and that’s fine…But you don’t need to brand other peoples opinions like that.
Pirates and Nats – simpy amazing.
It makes you feel great about the game of baseball.
Thanks, I’ll get my passport in order and pick ‘em up!
Chavy!
Can we please send Ibanez a fortnight to hawaii?
He looks old and tired form playing the outfield!
Chavez is having some year!
Chavy!!!…I think we have a comeback in our cards
luis I guess I could fake. But I’m not about that. Stupid to consider trading Grandeson or Cano. More stupid even to worry about 2014 when you have nothing to do with what will happen (the generic you).

LOVE THAT ROTATING DH!!!!!
I personally love our scrap heap.
Burn, Scioscia, burn!
Hassey,
I don’t like any Weaver but this guy’s definitely better than his brother. But the current offense has over a 900 OPS against him.
tomingeorgia – HUGE tip of the cap to the creator of the scrap heap – Brian Cashman!
Good afternoon everyone…I am out
How to get out of a sub-2.00 ERA: Play the Yankees.
BJ- Yep, they got him today, but he’s still top 3 in Al for the next 5 years
Russell swinging out of his shoes again….
F-bomb from Weaver.
It’s tough to vote against Jered Weaver. But this game goes to show what all games go to show. There are going to be days when even your best don’t have their best.
That’s why it’s good to be able to chill and enjoy games in spite of those days.
luis,
See Ya!
See ya luis!
Could any other Baltimore bullpen from the past 30 years have managed to win 10-straight extra inning games? Go Luis Ayala!
I liked Hughes for this start but his numbers against this team are even worse than Nova’s.
Chavez brings so much to this team offensively. When Gardner returns, Chavez gets fewer at bats. I’m not so sure that means a better offense for the Yankees.
Chavez!!!!

“Could any other Baltimore bullpen from the past 30 years have managed to win 10-straight extra inning games? Go Luis Ayala!”
Thought Hughes should had started yesterday. Especially with Stewart catching.
Trout is so annoying.
I guess I’d be scared of Weaver if I was a fan of any other team. But the Yanks handle him fairly regularly. Getting spooked must run in their family.
Sometimes I think Bronson Aroyyo is their long-lost brother.
Martins last hit probably happened in apr.He should just quit now.
Fark.
Qualls being on this team gets stranger and stranger
Oh well. Nova had a hard time keeping the yanks in it.
Girardi’s management in this game has been bizarre. Why is Qualls pitching the 8th in a 1 run game? Have we given up already?
This should have been Joba’s inning.
Guess qualls is going to eat this game.
Qualls is no Eppley.
There goes our chance.
Well
Eppley can’t pitch, Soriano and Robertson you don’t use when behind. Rapada i LOOGY and Logan has not been sharp lately…. So what’s the alternative to Qualls?
none of these guys should brag to their kids about that time 20 year ago that they hit Qualls
This is what’s happening when your starter two days in a row goes 5 and 6 innings….
Two of three, every series, the rest of the way will be lovely.
squeeze
Qualls doing his best Phillies relief pitching. Phillies are my home team and this guy was giving up the game whenever he came in. Couldnt believe Yankees picked him up. True colors showed today.
Can’t complain about taking two of three from the Angels…
Girardi gave this game away in the 8th by leaving Qualls in a one run game Logan could have come in earlier or Mitchell
I think Martin was trying to do too much to capitalize on Friday’s game
And the games just keeps getting better.
Why is qualls even on this team?
if Qualls is not DFA’d after today’s game, I’m personally going to forge the DFA letter and drop it under his hotel room door, with plane tickets home
I think Giradi manages the game dif if we didnt win the first 2, i love Giradi and his BP management, but its hard to defend Qualls in any close game…
4 runs down, 2 innings to go. Piece of cake.
should we all save Girari time and write his post game statement now?
anyone care to guess wich index card he’ll use? (same cards in wins and losses – but being in first, I guess consistency works)
That extra runs makes it tough . . . offense has done everything they could, unfortunately the bullpen erased their efforts plus interest.
dinner plans tonight
Tough game for the Jays today. Closer Jansen not available ( to be saved for you .) Darren Oliver in his second inning. Cordero warming up ( I hope not needed .) Go Ollie! 2 out, yeah Darren! Next batter. 2 and 1. Go Ollie! 3 and 1 now, runner on second. Got ‘em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jays,…….win
Not much you can do when your starter keeps handing back the lead and the the bullpen starts with qualls.
OK, really everybody, raise your hand if you thought the game was in the bag when A-Rod and Cano were on 1st and 3rd?
Game over now. Barf.
Guess DJ is doing mop up duty. Just going through the motions.
15 hits now? This one got ugly in a hurry
if he runs, plunk Wilson
it’s not losing one game, and it’s not how bad we look doing it (everyone looks bad in a loss, but it is how stupid we look after games like this…these are all very astute baseball minds managing coaching and playing but it often looks like the batteries went dead in the flashlight
Update-Sergio Santos needs surgery, thank goodness for Casey.
Hassey,
Today, the base running did it, not the coaching. Nova didn’t have anything. Why Qualls, I don’t know. We’ll get’em tomorrow.
Ron Hassey,…..it can’t be that bad?
this will leave a mark on their Runs Differential…maybe it will start raingin and we can blame the umps for calling the game and not giving us a chance to complete our comeback
no, it’s never bad when you have the top record in MLB, but isn’t it strange how high a % of our few losses seem to have been simply pissed away?
If that was a playoff game, Joe pulls Nova earlier and uses DRob in the eighth.
I’d like to see them at least put a scare into Frieiri to kill his aura of invincibility for the playoffs matchup
DFA Qualls, Mitchell and The Binder.
There you go, Hassey.
Straw,
You can’t play balls-to-the-wall everyday for 162 games. But, it sure should could have look better.
But then again, this Angels phenom just got tagged. Come from behind #30 on its way!
Completely different game if Binder Joe hadn’t used Qualls
Tom,
I know, I was trying to point it out to Hassey..
The Yankee RF porch should be inducted into the HoF

Completely different game if Binder Joe hadn’t used Qualls
Maybe, maybe not. we will never how an alternate move would have worked out!
Straw, Tom – I get it, I’m hip and I’m with you guys all the way…my only point was that they just seem to have given away too many of thei rlosses this year
comet,
If any team in baseball can pull a game like this in the 9th, it’s this one. Good to see you!
Comet
As Michael Kay would say the falisy of the pre-terdermined outcome
does joe call raul “ibby”?
Hi Comet! Yanks and Jays tomorrow!!!
Invincibility gone. Next?
This game could come down to Martin/Jones
Tying run at the plate.
“Game over now. Barf.”
It ain’t over ’til it’s over…
Hey Tom and Mr. Mills!
I’m hoping for a near miracle! It’s all up to Jones !
let the record show that we did score in 5 different innings today, which is high for us…and once again the tying run is on my TV screen, like always
Jones will go for the Downs !
Chavy’s 3-3, but the Binder dictates all.
Hello everyone again,
It is obvious that Girardi was playing with money in the bank, having won the two previous games. But Eppley was unavailable and he tried to squeezed another inning from Nova without his best stuff today. It happens, I wish we would have someone better than Quaills, but we don’t…It happens…Torre might have played it differently..I am fine with Today’s Girardi”s management.
I didn’t like Andruw to bat here
Get on base please
Pinch pls
I would pinch hit for Martin
luis July 15th, 2012 at 4:23 pm
I didn’t like Andruw to bat here
======================
I did, but don’t now !
Rusell stinks.
Way to go Binder and Andruw. Another good move from Idiot Joe.
Nice take-out, but jeez, Martin.
Martin, what a loser
Also unfair to pin it on qualls with the horrible base running by the yanks. It would have def been a different game without those.
I’m not convinced that there is little to no hope for Martin at the plate this year. I thought maybe that Friday would ignite him or his walkoff against the Mets but he just can’t keep anything going past 1 at bat.
RE: Girardi playing with house money,
you owe it to your guys to try and win every game. i don’t have a problem using DJ but leaving Qualls in the game is inexcusable. on top of him already having a track record of being terrible he didn’t look good. if we expect players to show up 162 games a year then the goal should be to win as many as possible. especially when you’re scoring 5 runs off of a pitcher like Weaver.
Way to go Russell.
Luis-
Who were you pinch hitting for Martin-Nix Stewart?
“I did, but don’t now !”
“Way to go Binder and Andruw. Another good move from Idiot Joe.”
Hey Niblick, what do you call him when the moves work out? Some must have for the Yanks to be in first place!
I am convinced**** Not I’m not convinced
Guys, take it easy on your team! You are in first.
and Martin is atrocious. hearing Giardi and Cashman say ‘Russel Martin is our catcher’ is mind blowing. hes been one of the worst players in baseball.
Chavy should have hit and Andruw could have hit for Russell. But Idiot Joe has spoken.
Setting up for a Grandy walk off??
Grandy can be a hero……
I gues Giro will now also have to pull out the Jones- Chavy index card for the presser
We are winning this game…After those expectacular plays at CF, Grandy is hitting one out of the park
wow can’t ask for any more fight from the Yanks. Don’t try to do too much here Grandy.
Guess Grandy gets the chance to do it all by himself. Go Curtis!
O for 12
Oy vey
Trader,
I would have let Chavez hit and then I would have pinch hit Martin with Andruw
He won’t see another FB
“Also unfair to pin it on qualls with the horrible base running by the yanks. It would have def been a different game without those.”
These Yankee fans pin it on everybody and anybody. Anything less than a win is grounds for hanging at dawn!
*************
Nobody can say – or should say – that the Yankees aren’t trying to win to the very last out.
Oh, so close…
Kay did a Sterling.
almost Grandy
Kay-Trying to induce heart failure.
That was the one! He won’t get another one like that to hit
either way we won 2 out of three that is what you want to do every series…and we are fighting in this game win or lose
That was the pitch
“either way we won 2 out of three that is what you want to do every series…and we are fighting in this game win or lose”
BINGO!
Grandy missed another one sigh
Walk him and let A-Rod win it
This is exciting, baseball at it’s best. Right down to the last pitch.
it always comes down to A-Rod.
A-bomb?
Yes!! two more
Great ab!!
Grandy is da king right now
Where’s the Angels closer from last year-Walden?
Come on A-Rod. Think right center here. If he shoots the gap out there Grandy scores.
No matter HOW this game ends up, Yankee fans should absoutely appreciate how these guys battle.
I’ll settle for a double with speedster Granderson scoring the winning run.
“Where’s the Angels closer from last year-Walden?”
I thought at one point he had gotten demoted. Not sure where he is now.
I hope u guys win even if I don’t get further ahead
A-Rod, please don’t take a FB down the middle. Get your swings !
Man, I love baseball. Doesn’t get any better than this, does it? Okay Al, show you are still the best clutch hitter in baseball. A double like last night’s would be just fine.
Happy Arod homered earlier. That way anyone who whines if he doesn’t come through looks ridiculous.
Very fitting…Regardless, this has been one hell of a game…
Trader-
He’s on the DL
Don’t try to do too much here, a single ties the game.
Shorten up that swing Arod, go oppo
Deuces wild.
Oh well…..
well – at least we’re hard to kill
jmills – you’re a sweetie.
tomingeorgia – to me it doesn’t get any better than this even if Arod fans. This is baseball at its most exciting.
somehow i had no confidence in A-rod doing anything……but we took the series so its all good
Game over.
Thanks again for arod hank
Well, we gave them a run for their money…At least they leave NYS with a feeling that no lead is safe against us.
love the lohud attitude. Good for you guys. That’s exactly how we should look at this game.
Proud of you all.
And A-roid comes through in the clutch.
Chalk this loss up to brain dead managing in the last 3 innings.
at least Qualls got his work in.
He got his swings ( one bad ) Excitement was in the air !
“And A-roid comes through in the clutch.
Chalk this loss up to brain dead managing in the last 3 innings.”
Oops. Didn’t see this beauty of a post!
Very fitting…Regardless, this has been one hell of a game…
———————————-
Yanks have had some very exciting losses this season. Seriously.
Uh, the Angels scored 10 runs. I’m not sure I’d blame Arod for the loss.
Too bad we couldn’t close the deal. Still gotta love the fight though
Glad you liked it, Trisha. My whole purpose in life is to affirm your opinions, didn’t you know?
This team never surrenders….Gotta love the fight they showed here
For anyone talking smack about Arod, I’d like to see what you would do with bases loaded , two outs, facing 98 mph Heat in Yankee stadium.
That was close
trisha,
Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, bases loaded. Didn’t quite make it, but did anyone look away? Fantastic ballgame. We’ll get the Jays tomorrow. These guys have no quit in them.
Chalk this loss up to brain dead managing in the last 3 innings.
==============================
what was brain dead was arod and cano on 1st and 3rd, both getting picked off.
Drat,….I was hoping for a better night for you dudes. I am going to have my daughter say a prayer for me Jays upon the morrow. Great health to all!
jmills,
Say that prayer yourself. They need it.
Thanks Tom,……I geuss
Hope the weather is fair down there.
jmills – thanks for that, and I know you mean it. I really want your guys to put in a great season but you know I have to stop a little short when they’re playing my Yanks! Of course I’m always pleased when the Yanks take a series, so I’m sure I’d get through the night if the Jays walked away with a win.
Yup Trish,……and if u people win,……..I can take that! Have a gentle nuit mon ami.
Vous aussi, mon ami!
