TIME/TV: 10:05 p.m., YES Network

WEATHER: A little bit chilly, but in a nice and comfortable way.

UMPIRES: HP Mike Winters, 1B Bill Miller, 2B Wally Bell, 3B Brian Knight

FIRST TIMER: The Yankees will face RHP A.J. Griffin for the first time tonight. According to Elias, the Yankees are 26-11 over the past two years (2011-12) in games in which they are opposed by a starting pitcher who they were facing for the first time. That?includes a 9-6 mark this season. They?have lost their last two such games after winning their previous six.

WELCOME TO OAKLAND: The Yankees have won nine straight games at Oakland’s Coliseum dating back to July 5, 2010, their longest such streak since the opening of the Coliseum in 1968. According to Elias, it marks the Yankees’ longest road winning streak against the Athletics since winning 10 in a row at Kansas City’s Municipal Stadium from August 31, 1955 through September 11, 1956, and it equals the Majors’ longest current winning streak in road games against one opponent. San Diego has won its past nine games at Pittsburgh.

GOING DEEP: Hiroki Kuroda’s win on Wednesday was his fifth start this season in which he pitched at least seven scoreless innings. He?is tied with the Mets’ R.A. Dickey and Milwaukee’s Zack Greinke for the most such starts in the Majors this season.?Only one Yankee has compiled more scoreless starts of at least seven innings in a season since 1981. It was Mike Mussina who had seven in 2001.

UPDATE, 10:20 p.m.: OK, so that first inning included a 7-1 putout. It’s already a weird game.

UPDATE, 10:28 p.m.: Long home run for Cespedes makes it 2-0 A’s in the bottom of the first.

UPDATE, 11:12 p.m.: Two-run single by Seth Smith and it’s 4-0 A’s. Yankees bats aren’t making any noise against Griffin.

UPDATE, 11:55 p.m.: Hey look! The Yankees scored! Sac fly by Teixeira and an RBI single by Swisher have made it a 4-2 game. Garcia is still out there for the bottom of the sixth, but Phelps has been getting loose for what seems like four innings.
