WEATHER: Bright and sunny out here in California. Really nice day with a light breeze blowing from out to right field.

UMPIRES: HP Bill Miller, 1B Wally Bell, 2B Brian Knight, 3B Mike Winters

AT THE TOP: Today marks the 38th consecutive day the Yankees will be in sole possession of first place in the AL East. It?marks their longest such stretch since a 43-day span in 2010.

MOVING UP: Derek Jeter needs one run to pass Eddie Collins for sole possession of 15th place on baseball’s all-time runs scored list. Jeter has 1,822 career runs. Frank Robinson ranks 14th with 1,830 and Craig Biggio is 13th with 1,844.

KEEPING IT GOING: Robinson Cano’s 22-game hitting streak is the longest of his career. It’s the longest by a Yankees second baseman since Joe Gordon hit safely in 29 straight games in 1942.

UPDATE, 10:43 p.m.: Strikeout gets Nova through the second inning. Still scoreless.

UPDATE, 11:01 p.m.: Leadoff triple hurt Nova in the third. A sac fly brought the run home and it’s a 1-0 A’s lead.

UPDATE, 11:07 p.m.: Reddick can really throw. Bad call trying to take third, and Teixeira is out. Runner at first with two outs instead of runners at first and second with one out.

UPDATE, 11:10 p.m.: Cano out looking and not happy with it. Seems like it’s been a wide zone most of the night.

UPDATE, 11:22 p.m.: Nova managed to limit the damage and leave two stranded, but back-to-back doubles to start the fourth have pushed the A’s lead to 2-0.

UPDATE, 12:10 a.m.: Nick Swisher came up limping on that ground out in the top of the seventh, now he’s out of the game in the bottom of the inning. No word on the injury.

UPDATE, 12:15 a.m.: Boone Logan is in to face pinch hitter Gomes. It’s still a 2-0 Athletic’s lead.

UPDATE, 12:25 a.m.: Logan walks Gomes but gets out of the inning with a strikeout, leaving the bases loaded.

UPDATE, 12:27 p.m.: There’s a solo homer by Martin to put the Yankees on the board. It’s 2-1 in the eighth.
