Millwood vs. Yankees

TIME/TV: 10:10 p.m., YES Network

WEATHER: Weird. It’s chilly and rainy in Seattle. That almost never happens.

UMPIRES: HP Phil Cuzzi, 1B Manny Gonzalez, 2B Greg Gibson, 3B Gerry Davis

FOUR BY ONE: The Yankees have lost their last four games, each by one run. It’s the first such streak for the Yankees since 1979 (one game at Oakland, three at Seattle and one at California). According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Oakland series marked the first time the Yankees lost four straight games, each by one run, against the same opponent since four consecutive losses at Detroit from Octover 1, 1988 through June 28, 1989.

LOSE BY ONE: The Yankees are 6-9 in one-run games on the road this season.

NO MORE THAN FOUR: The Yankees became the last team in the Majors to have a four-game losing streak this season. They?are one of five teams that has yet to lose five consecutive games (also Cincinnati, Milwaukee, San Francisco and Tampa Bay). Under Joe Girardi (since 2008), the Yankees have lost more than four straight games in a season just twice (a six-game losing streak in 2011 and a five-game losing streak in 2009).

UPDATE, 10:17 p.m.: Big ovation for Ichiro as he runs out to play right field. He’s done that more than a few times at this stadium.

UPDATE, 10:46 p.m.: Ichiro bows twice. Very cool first Yankees at-bat, no matter how it ends.

UPDATE, 10:47 p.m.: Single up the middle. See, he’s a better player already.

UPDATE, 10:52 p.m.: Ichiro is really making the rest of the Yankees look bad so far.

UPDATE, 11:22 p.m.: Not a home run to be found and the Yankees have pulled ahead 3-1 in the fourth. Teixeira, Ibanez and Jones each had RBIs that inning.

Anyone here buying an Ichiro Yankees jersey?

  2. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:06 pm

Go Yanks, Go Hiro, Go Ichiro

  3. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:07 pm

It will be interesting to see how Ichiro handles batting 8th…infront of the pitcher. I can’t see him being happy batting down there.

  4. Jeff in Canada July 23rd, 2012 at 10:07 pm

    Repost from last thread:

Can anyone imagine Jeter in a Mariners jersey in Yankee Stadium the day he’s traded? Ichiro is no Jeter, but that’s probably a bit of what those fans are feeling right now.

  5. RS July 23rd, 2012 at 10:08 pm

Is it safe to say that the most successful Japanese pitcher and Japanese hitter in MLB are playing for the Yankees today?

  6. syd_cash July 23rd, 2012 at 10:08 pm

    crazy

  7. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:09 pm

    Jarrod Saltalamacchia !

  8. RS July 23rd, 2012 at 10:09 pm

this could be the first time in Ichiro’s career that he doesnt bat in the first inning

  9. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:09 pm

    crazy Jarrod Saltalamacchia indeed.

  10. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:10 pm

Pretty empty Safeco! I guess they’re all boycotting Ichiro’s departure.

    :)

  11. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:10 pm

No hat tipping to Kevin Millwood….hit him

  12. RS July 23rd, 2012 at 10:10 pm

“I can’t see him being happy batting down there.”

Did you see that shot of Ichiro in the dugout just now? Looked plenty happy to me lol

  13. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:11 pm

Don’t underestimate Millwood. He is a big game pitcher.

  14. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Ill get an Ichiro jersey if we win the World Series.

This is great from a business perspective too. Ichiro can make the Yankees a lot of money via the YES Network and jersey sales.

  15. Jeff in Canada July 23rd, 2012 at 10:13 pm

I have some family in Vancouver, big Mariners/Ichiro fans. They’re saying they’ve never seen him smile so much!

  16. yanks 27 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:14 pm

I won’t be at peace until the trade deadline passes and one of the Marlins stud players ISN’T on the Red Sox roster. Also, I am hoping Theo doesn’t send Garza there for peanuts, but I’d rather they get Garza than those idiots from the Marlins trading them Hanley, JJ, or even Stanton.

  17. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:15 pm

    ====

Agree. I can’t stand any good news out of Boston.

  18. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:15 pm

My friend bought an Ichiro T-shirt for me when she was in Seattle. I’m rockin’ that thing tomorrow.

Cashman still can trade for a long-term solution in the OF but picking Ichiro might be an indicator that the prices were too high. If OF’s are too expensive on the trade market, there’s only one last way to acquire them.

    Free agency.

It looks like Cashman is waving the white flag on a long-term solution via trade.

Melky Cabrera is your RF next year. He’s the long-term solution to replace Swisher.

Ichiro could be next years Ibanez if he likes it here and wants to stay. I think he can hit .300 and his style of hitting the ball where it’s thrown and going with a pitch is a skillset completely absent from the lineup aside from Cano and Jeter.

Unlike Ibanez though, Ichiro could spot LF and fill in for the injury-plagued Gardner.

  19. yanks 27 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:15 pm

I still can’ believe that Bob Knightengale, a “respected” baseball writer actually suggested the Marlins give away their young stud SS/3B for Carl Crawford’s $120 million contract.

  20. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:16 pm

Need to switch Ichiro and Granderson

  21. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:17 pm

    Same here yanks27.

I just want this TD to pass without them getting gifted anything for peanuts, potatoes and chicken wings.

  22. luis July 23rd, 2012 at 10:17 pm

    Go Hiroki, Go Yankees!

    Guys,

Thanks for your very thoughtful responses on my question… I hope ot all works out for the best..

    Nick,

    I hear ya! ;)

  23. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Looks like Millwood is on his game … again.

    :(

  24. sunny615 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:17 pm

Is it too early to switch it to Old-Rod?

  25. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Ichiro in a Yanks uniform is very weird to see. I hope he gets a big hit in this series.

  26. AZ88 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Ichiro in a Yanks uniform is very weird to see. I hope he gets a big hit in this series.

    ————–

He pretty much has to – no one else on this team seems capable of doing so

  27. m July 23rd, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Need a win tonight. It’s been a brutal road trip so far.

  28. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Bob Nightengale is about as respected as Peter Gammons/Jerry Sandusky.

  29. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:21 pm

    A Sandusky joke.. too soon??

  30. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:21 pm

Fans doing the Yankees roll call lol

  31. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

    come on Alex.

  32. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Arod should stick to DHing. Chavez makes that play easy.

  33. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

“Agree. I can’t stand any good news out of Boston.”

    Glass jaw much?

    :)

  34. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

What a joke. You had Jesus Montero running. Just throw him out.

  35. RS July 23rd, 2012 at 10:25 pm

once again, the Yankees cant get through a first inning behind Kuroda without making an error

  36. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:27 pm

Rangers have opened it up on Boston….Crawford just let a ball go between his legs and roll to the wall to allow 2 runs

  37. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:28 pm

    ICHIRO!!!!

  38. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:28 pm

    fortunate there…..

  39. UnKnown July 23rd, 2012 at 10:28 pm

Man he looks good in RF. Guy was born to catch fly balls.

  40. Nick in SF July 23rd, 2012 at 10:28 pm

I want to see Ichiro bat this inning.

  41. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Johnny.Rocket – if you know anything at all about the Sux, then you know you need not worry if they end up with Josh Johnson. Unless of course you suffer from lastplaceteamaphobia – the fear of teams in last place.

    :D

  42. WMD July 23rd, 2012 at 10:29 pm

banjo hitting ADud just plain out blows

  43. incident_57 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:29 pm

Can someone explain to me why Wise looked so great for a few weeks there, and yet his career has been so disappointing? Is there something about his swing or approach that leads to an inability to sustain any success? Or has he just not had consistent playing time?

When he was hot just before the All-Star Break I really was hoping he’d keep getting some time, and obviously that didn’t happen. So for those of you who have followed him — what’s his deal?

  44. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:30 pm

howard doubles home two and ruiz another and halladay gets off the hook in the phillies game.

  45. Niblick July 23rd, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Nice start for Arod – GIDP and E in one inning. And what do we have, five more years of this garbage play?

  46. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Good job by Kuroda. Arod’s hitting has been brutal this year but he really needs to be better at 3rd base. It seems like he has no range and moving around is really a problem for him. I am sure by next year he will be the full time DH.

  47. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:32 pm

Red flag. It’s obvious Ichiro is one swing away from labrum surgery. Jack Z knows it. Cashman is too desperate to unload Mitchell to realize it. Girardi was out to oust Mitchell all along. DJ was never given a fair shot from day 1. It’s all so obvious. Generational pitcher we just lost.

    #JackZdagain

  48. Benny Blanco July 23rd, 2012 at 10:32 pm

    Tex beating the shift?? Nice

  49. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Enough of these freakin DP’s against 50 year old Milwood

  50. sunny615 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:35 pm

    Two GIDPs. Awesome.

  51. ac1 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:36 pm

    __

This is why they should look into Hanley…
DH A-Rod and 3B Hanley next season.

  52. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:37 pm

“Red flag. It’s obvious Ichiro is one swing away from labrum surgery. Jack Z knows it. Cashman is too desperate to unload Mitchell to realize it. Girardi was out to oust Mitchell all along. DJ was never given a fair shot from day 1. It’s all so obvious. Generational pitcher we just lost.”

Actually I think this was about needing an outfielder, wanting to get high quality, and having to give to get high quality. I don’t think there were any spies in closest on this one.

  53. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:39 pm

Chase Headley would be a better fit than H. Ramirez because 3b is Headley’s natural position and he has more experience in the OF. Hanley Ramirez also makes too much. I highly doubt he’s a target.

  54. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:39 pm

people have been saying the past couple of years things like “at least arod still plays a good 3b” and i can’t believe it. he has good days and then other days where balls almost hit him in the foot. his overall range seems diminished to me. idk what uzr and all that say but he’s looked much diminished in the field to me.

  55. Tabbert July 23rd, 2012 at 10:40 pm

“This is why they should look into Hanley…
DH A-Rod and 3B Hanley next season.”

One general manager doesn’t know where he’d play Hanley Ramirez on defense. “He’s not a third baseman, he’s not a shortstop anymore. I wouldn’t know where to hide him,” the GM told Heyman.

Seattle broadcast is just basically a camera on #31 at all times tonight.

  57. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:40 pm

    Trisha you foiled the plot!

  58. mick July 23rd, 2012 at 10:40 pm

looks like ichiro stole monteros lohud thunder…
    how quickly they forget.

  59. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:41 pm

I think the Yankees definitely foresaw a point at which Arod would be predominatelty at DH.

Of course they could have attracted a high-power bat like Fielder, the way some posters wanted them to do, and sat Arod for the remainder of his career…

    ;)

  60. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:41 pm

having said that arod is still a better 3b than hanram who has no buisness in any major league infield.

  61. jackamir July 23rd, 2012 at 10:41 pm

I swear there are people that post that here just make things up. Very little you read here is actually factual. Its truly comical……Unsubstantiated rumors…

  62. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:42 pm

Bret, I thought you were being serious!

    :)

    Trisha,

    Never ruin a good plot.

  64. sunny615 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Can’t wait to see Ichiro bat.

  65. UnKnown July 23rd, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Tomorrow they need to be taking down those Ichiro signs everywhere around Safeco.

  66. Pat M. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:44 pm

YS Guy…..about a month ago there was a contigent here telling us that Alex can play short right now better than Derek ….. The discussion lasted about 20 minutes for me but Alex barely plays 3rd…….Love Safeco and it’s the first time sitting in their All Star Club..

  67. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:44 pm

“Cashman is too desperate to unload Mitchell to realize it.”

The HONORABLE ICHIRO!!!! He bowed down to the crowd!!! There’s honor right there. Its the Yankees uniform!!!

    ICHIRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  80. m July 23rd, 2012 at 10:47 pm

    True New Yankee. :)

  81. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:47 pm

Nice, now steal 2nd and 3rd like he used to do to the Yanks. I used to hate when he was on base against the Yanks. You knew if he stole he was most likely safe.

  82. jmv July 23rd, 2012 at 10:48 pm

Thanks for the info, Ys Guy!
Looks like a mixed bag in Sea

  83. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:48 pm

  84. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:48 pm

  85. Pat M. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:48 pm

  91. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

it’s an aspect they’ve been missing…..a base hit and a steal

  92. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Where’s that labrum tear Ichiro  I know it’s in there somewhere. Cashman! Bring in the contrast dye.

    ICHIRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He took the bag on the CINO Montero!!!

  95. MoRings42 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

    Martin sucks!!

  96. Jeff in Canada July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

    Dimachiro

  97. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

What a surprise the pitcher doesn’t get a hit.

Maybe Ichiro can teach Gardner something about stealing bases.

  98. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

unfortunately Martin is hitting behind him

  99. UnKnown July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Good thing too. Probably been the 3rd DP ball of the game.

  100. Phranchise July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

and that’s why even at his age it’s an upgrade. That at bat is one thing we have missed for months. The ability to steal is massive for any chance in the playoffs. Need to get ball in play, steal and manufacture runs

  101. igotid88 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:49 pm

would have been an inning ending double play there

  102. Curt aint worth a Schilling July 23rd, 2012 at 10:50 pm

    Steal home Ichiro!!!! Steal home!!!

  103. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:50 pm

    THANK YOU BASEBALL GODS!!!!

You wanted a situational hitter, someone who could hit with RISP, someone quick on the bases? Thank Nick Swisher’s hip flexor!

  104. cofuzz July 23rd, 2012 at 10:51 pm

I don’t think it’s Montero behind the dish. It’s Jaso, no?

  105. Bronx Jeers July 23rd, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Yanks tried for the DP trifecta but Ichiro said no.

  106. Marcus July 23rd, 2012 at 10:51 pm

    Unfortunately, Martin bats behind Ichiro.

  107. UnKnown July 23rd, 2012 at 10:52 pm

I think this move had way more to do with Gardner being out for the rest of the season then Nick missing a few games.

  108. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:52 pm

“He took the bag on the CINO Montero!!!”
    =====================
jaso had a better shot at throwing him out being the catcher with the dh montero sitting on the bench and all…..

  109. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:52 pm

    Damn….so close.

  110. sunny615 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:52 pm

    Still blah with RISP.

  111. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:52 pm

    “Unfortunately, Martin bats behind Ichiro.”

    For now.

Interesting situation. Ichiro is the prototypical leadoff hitter.

  112. Pat M. July 23rd, 2012 at 10:53 pm

I think we might see Ichiro hitting in the leadoff spot and Derek hitting in the 2 or the other way around…..he’s not here to hit 8th….. Time to move Curtis down

  113. Prete Funk Era July 23rd, 2012 at 10:53 pm

Ichiro as a Yankee stealing on Montero as a Mariner still is weird for me, anyone else?

  114. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Stewart and Martin really have to start splitting playing time. It is absolutely insane that Martin is still the everyday catcher. It’s not a slump like Cashman and Girardi try to pretend it is. This is the hitter that he is…garbage. Martin isn’t going to be here next year so why not move on now. If Stewart improves his throwing he could be the everyday catcher next year.

  115. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

“I think we might see Ichiro hitting in the leadoff spot and Derek hitting in the 2 or the other way around…..he’s not here to hit 8th….. Time to move Curtis down”

    if he hits I agree….

  116. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

i expected ichiro to bat 9th and really take gardener’s place.

    i still think we might.

  117. m July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Not sure it would have happened if Swish didn’t go down the other day. I think that sealed the deal.

  119. jackamir July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Feeble offense…Very few flyballs or even solid contact… Its a West Coast FUNK….

  120. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Once acclimated and after Jeter is shown due respect over the next month, I believe Ichiro will find himself atop the lineup batting leadoff or 2nd.

  121. GoldGlove9486 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:54 pm

I am 99% sure that Montero is NOT catching tonight.

  122. blake July 23rd, 2012 at 10:55 pm

    Montero isn’t catching

  123. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 23rd, 2012 at 10:55 pm

    Rangers leading 9-1.

    :)

  124. GoldGlove9486 July 23rd, 2012 at 10:56 pm

I think Suzuki will end up hitting second. Jeter hits into too many DP’s to move down. Granderson should hit 6.

  125. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 10:57 pm

wasnt there some troll on here pumping up dubront a while ago? where’d he go?

  126. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 10:59 pm

Jon Lester tanking this year (and wanting out), hurts the Sox more than anything this season (except Bobby V, that man is toxic sludge).

  127. UnKnown July 23rd, 2012 at 10:59 pm

“Not sure it would have happened if Swish didn’t go down the other day. I think that sealed the deal.”

I think it got the deal done quicker, but NYY were going to get an OF’er whether Swish injured himself or not. Deal might have not came about till closer to the deadline though.

With Swisher down they wanted to make a move now.

  128. 4 NYY July 23rd, 2012 at 10:59 pm

I don’t think Jeter would mind at all hitting second behind Ichiro. ( if he hits like I think he will with his new lease on life )

  129. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Why not move a Swisher based package for a more long-term option in the OF via a 3-team trade?

  130. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 11:01 pm

If Ichiro hits well for the Yanks I definitely think he will bat leadoff or 2nd. It makes sense to move Granderson down so he can be in an rbi spot. Arod will never be moved down but he looks terrible and isn’t a big bat for them anymore.

  131. Captain Clutch July 23rd, 2012 at 11:02 pm

When was the last time Martin made a good throw to 2nd base? Baserunners are just abusing him.

  132. GoldGlove9486 July 23rd, 2012 at 11:02 pm

    Game over.

  133. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Swisher and a solid prospect or two for Starling Marte. Get some value for Swish before he bolts and suckers some team into overpaying. The Pirates desperately need to add a bat and they don’t have enough for Upton.

  134. Ys Guy July 23rd, 2012 at 11:03 pm

ichiro’s obp is .288 this year. he’s gotta lift his game in a big way to be a leadoff hitter again.
(jeter’s is .355 and even higher in the first inning.)

  135. Johnny. Rocket. July 23rd, 2012 at 11:03 pm

I believe the designated hitter can bat for anyone on the field, not just the pitcher.
Could be an idea when CC’s pitching at least, I suppose.
Although in Japanese culture (and in any other culture that plays baseball) I’m sure that’s too shameful for a manager not named LaRussa to consider.

Thats the job of nearly every ESPN employee, to hate on the Yankees and fawn over the Red Sox.

And picking the Yankees to win divisions, playoff series, world series isnt fawning over, its an attempt to jinx.

The worst offenders on ESPN are the Yankees fans IMO. For example, Mike Greenberg, supposed Yankees and Jets fan, is the biggest joke. Id like to bludgeon him until I broke every bone in his face. He fawns all over the Patriots and Red Sox. And dumps on New York. He’s a disgrace to Jews.

    hell must be cold today

  249. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:03 am

martin has the same # of hits and SB’s as ichiro tonight.

  250. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:03 am

    Ha Martin got Jaso back.

  251. jackamir July 24th, 2012 at 12:04 am

    Payback is a b-tch, Jaso..

  252. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:05 am

Grandy has to work on getting that avg back up into the .260′s

  253. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:05 am

Millwood is pitching around all of the lefties now

  254. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:08 am

You know, the people on here who argue to have Grandy walk after this season look pretty smart. I’m not sure if he should be here long term.

  255. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:09 am

Granderson has to start making more contact, he is swinging and missing a lot recently. I like him but I can’t see the Yanks giving him an extension. The non contact will get worse as he ages.

  256. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:11 am

Throw that splitter again here. Double up on it.

  257. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:11 am

    Seager has 58 RBI

  258. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:12 am

Nice Cuzzi gives that Northeast section of the strike zone there.

  259. Prete Funk Era July 24th, 2012 at 12:13 am

Damn, as a Yankees fan I’m ecstatic about Ichiro. But this melts my heart. Watch this 6 year old Mariner fan take the news :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A3b2pMjKBA

  260. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:13 am

granderson’s OPS is 2nd on the team, he’s ahead of tex and arod. let him go and you have a huge hole in the lineup.

  261. Nick in SF July 24th, 2012 at 12:13 am

    Ichiro Gardner would’ve caught that.

  262. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:14 am

Ha, Jeter is like where the hell where you Andruw?

  263. WMD July 24th, 2012 at 12:14 am

great hustle as usual for jones

  264. Bo knows July 24th, 2012 at 12:14 am

The thing that gets me about Granderson – every at bat – First strike, third strike, max effort swing. With his quick hands there is no reason for all the SOs other than his pursuit of HRs. Bought into the bloody anagram blither

  265. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:15 am

    lol…

    karl ravech?

concerned more than i have been that the red sox are at the point of no return..they looked lifeless in losing 4th in a row..now under .500

  266. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:15 am

grandy’s obp is virtually tied with jeter and arod for 2nd on the yankees. the average isnt hurting anybody.

  267. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:16 am

Let Kuroda go 8 please !

  268. Nick in SF July 24th, 2012 at 12:17 am

What a great performance — again — by Kuroda. He was the missing ingredient in Oakland this weekend.

  269. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:19 am

Pretty sad that we have 9 hits and just the 3 runs. This could be a laugher but we’ll be sweating it out the whole way.

  270. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:19 am

    Bout time !

  271. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

Hey! I thought Arod was finished!

    :D

  272. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

Go Arod!! They really needed that run to make it a 3 run game.

  273. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

arod got all of that one. he’s having an excellent game!

  274. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

Nice stick it to those loser fans that boo you like a bunch of babies Alex.

  275. Bo knows July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

Yep, by all means let’s work the OPS. More anagram blither. There’s a man on third 3-1 ballgame. The fourth run basically ensures the win – Granderson with the HR swing. Team win – What team win. Going for the gusto.

Bad case of stats – Yep, he’s working the OPS.

  276. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

“Pretty sad that we have 9 hits and just the 3 runs. This could be a laugher but we’ll be sweating it out the whole way.”

    I’m not sweating. Are you??

  277. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:20 am

Yeah, he just finished with that HR !!!

  278. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:21 am

Trisha, I am feeling a bit better now.

  279. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:21 am

I think they will bring Granderson back if it’s on their terms. But I can’t see them giving a 31 year old outfielder a 5-6 year contract for $20m per.

  280. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:22 am

Good thing the Mariners brought this pitcher in

  281. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:22 am

Teix has been HOT for a spell !!!

  282. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:22 am

“Millwood will NOT allow more than 3 runs in this game.”

    Uh-oh, Johnny.Rocket. Uh-oh.

  283. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:23 am

i never said arod was finished, i just threw out his actual stats. 7th on the yankees in OPS. a two hit game doesn’t changed that.

  284. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:23 am

Well he was sort of right. Millwood allowed 3.

  285. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:23 am

“Trisha, I am feeling a bit better now.”

    ;)

  286. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:23 am

    thats not milwood.

  287. igotid88 July 24th, 2012 at 12:25 am

    A-Rod!!!!

  288. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:25 am

“Well he was sort of right. Millwood allowed 3.”

    Uh-oh me. Uh-oh.

    :D

Ys Guy – I’m not meaning that to single you out. I’m talking that in general. A lot of people have said Arod was through.

  289. m July 24th, 2012 at 12:26 am

Y’s Guy is wise. no doubt, a-rod is an after thought on this team.

  290. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:27 am

i will say this for arod though, he hasnt had that many 2 extra base hit games this year so that is something to be encouraged about. and he made a nice defensive play despite the error.

  291. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:27 am

Ichiro leads off a lot….because he hits after Jones.

  292. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:30 am

    Now it’s D-Ro & R-So time

  293. Tyler July 24th, 2012 at 12:30 am

    Another great outing by Kuroda.

  294. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:33 am

A-Rod’s not through, it’s just not the A-Rod we expected. What will he provide in 2-3 more years ?

    Anybody’s guess.

  295. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:33 am

Attendance is a tad low at Safeco, huh? More seagulls than people there I think.

  296. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:34 am

D-Rob looks likes he’s throwing a golf ball.

  297. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:34 am

    Please don’t be hurt

  298. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:35 am

    Oh for God’s sake.

  299. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:36 am

nice work Drob, 0 baserunners 2k. nice to see.

  300. Tyler July 24th, 2012 at 12:36 am

A-Rod isn’t a 35-40 homer guy anymore. He will probably be around 25 for a couple years and gradually decline from there. I hope that his productivity remains high and he keeps driving guys in. He will still be a good player but just not the guy the Yanks expected when he signed that huge deal.

  301. Nick in SF July 24th, 2012 at 12:36 am

    Whew.

  302. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:36 am

I’ve never really seen it that empty looking at Safeco. Compass Rosy could answer better I’m sure. I’m still wondering if some fans boycotted the trade of Suzuki.

  303. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:38 am

Sometimes’ they stumble without actually getting hurt ! LOL

  304. GoldGlove9486 July 24th, 2012 at 12:42 am

Great swing by Ichiro. I’m so excited to have him.

  305. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:42 am

i dont know that 71 rbi (arod’s current pace) constitues “productivity remains high”

  306. m July 24th, 2012 at 12:43 am

I’m just glad that cano, Granderson, and Tex are still hitting for power.

In that sense, it’s not that easy to say let Granderson.

There’s got to be an under/over in the number if true power hitters needed in the lineup to be a very good team.

    3.5? :)

  307. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:44 am

“Great swing by Ichiro. I’m so excited to have him.”

He’s a complete player. You don’t feel like you have to wonder whether or not he’ll end up contributing. I think we are so lucky to have him.

  308. Captain Clutch July 24th, 2012 at 12:44 am

    Qualls sit down

  309. Tyler July 24th, 2012 at 12:45 am

    YS-

I’d take 80 RBI from A-Rod at this point in his career as long as he’s surrounded by a good lineup.

  310. igotid88 July 24th, 2012 at 12:46 am

Ichiro hit it hard 3 times but only 1 hit to show for it. But he still needs a batter with at least a .200 avg hitting behind him

  311. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:48 am

trisha – true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:36 am
I’ve never really seen it that empty looking at Safeco. Compass Rosy could answer better I’m sure. I’m still wondering if some fans boycotted the trade of Suzuki.

    ========================

They had a little less than 21,000 last night. What’s the crowd tonight ?

  312. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:50 am

80 rbi would be okay but i’d still rather see what grandy can do in the middle of the lineup instead of batting 2nd. granderson’s obp is .002 behind arod’s and he’s got 10 more rbi despite batting in front of him. on this team 25 HR, 75 rbi should put him batting 6th or 7th not 3rd.

  313. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:50 am

    Let’s go Mr. Clean !!!

  314. igotid88 July 24th, 2012 at 12:51 am

Well Montero can’t tie the game now

  315. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:51 am

    4 NYY – no idea.

  316. 98NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:52 am

It is amazing they found a uniform that fast. It looked like Winfield’s size. Hope they can size it better by tomorrow. I am glad to see if he has more in his tank. Great to see a steal!

  317. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:52 am

If Sori can get Montero out, he’s HOF bound.

    :)

  318. UnKnown July 24th, 2012 at 12:52 am

Clutch that’s funny about Qualls. No kidding, sit down.

  319. 4 NYY July 24th, 2012 at 12:53 am

    UNTUCK ! MR. CLEAN !!! ( NOT )

  320. trisha - true pinstriped blue July 24th, 2012 at 12:54 am

    Uh-oh Johnny.Rocket. Uh-oh.

  321. Nick in SF July 24th, 2012 at 12:54 am

I think the M’s played in Tampa yesterday.

  322. Ys Guy July 24th, 2012 at 12:54 am

put together montero’s 4 batted balls tonight and they still don’t make the seats.
