Off the bench, Nix comes through

On the verge of yet another one-run loss, it was Yankees utility infielder Jayson Nix who came through with a game-changing, three-run double today in Seattle. Nix came off the bench to put the Yankees in front and let them end this miserable road trip with a 5-2 win against the Mariners. Nix could play a more significant role now that Alex Rodriguez is on the disabled list, and he pinch hit for Raul Ibanez with the bases loaded in the eighth. His double put the Yankees in front 4-2, then he scored on a single by Russell Martin. David Phelps pitched 1.1 hitless innings for the win. Starter Ivan Nova allowed just two hits, but he also walked six, leading to two earned runs.
