Rodriguez has broken hand
Alex Rodriguez is heading to the disabled list with a broken left hand. No word on how long he’ll be out. He’ll see Dr. Ahmad in New York.

If he’s only gone for 6 weeks, we can handle that. We played Cody Ransom at 3B for 6 weeks in 2009.
Murcer, that is a message. And Id sacrifice a game to teach them a lesson by doing that.
Joe says “non-displaced” is good.

My two cents:
I am not going to express my opinion about Garcia/Phelps debate, you know where I stand. But Freddy pitched well. Still, three runs against Felix is probably too much to give up.
This 8th inning must have been Girardi’s wet dream, he got to use 5 pitchers in one inning!! But to be fair, it didn’t matter that much in the final result of the game.
I do think that the offense squandered a few very good chances to score against felix and that probably is the reason we lost.
Losing Arod could be disastrous…It could force the FO to make a trade that will help us short term, but hurts us in the long run…Let’s hope it isn’t serious…We don’t only lose our third baseman, but one of our better situational hitters, if not the best one. Diminished skills or not.
Now Girardi has to move Ichiro to leadoff or 2nd. Granderson gets moved to the middle of the order. Everyone will have to step up otherwise they might struggle. Now they face the Sox without Arod and maybe Swisher also.
Meredith Marakovits?@M_Marakovits
Eric Chavez just said he broke same bone… Took him 8 weeks to get back … Said this injury really hurts but we’ll find away #yankees
Girardi will probably play Chavez vs rhp and Nix vs lhp at 3B.
Thats with Chavez’ bird bones, I expect A-rod to come back a bit faster. That sucks though, basically means end of september
Good night everyone

Upton, Hamly, or Headley. Why bother with anything else?
Doesn’t Branyan play 3B?
Although he is also a lefty, so I guess no point to that.
Ichiro can play 3rd base, right?
Chavez and Nix aren’t the answers at 3rd base. Chavez will get hurt and be on the DL if he plays more often and Nix’s defense will get exposed the more he plays. At the very least Cashman has to find someone who can play great defense everyday. Now the Mariners should give us another player for free for hurting Arod.
def won’t get 30 – 100 this year
What I’m afraid of is he who we might give up on a trade. Hopefully there’s someone in the minors who can come up.
Perhaps the white sox would part with Youk…
“Gee, did they announce that Arod is going to be out for an extended period of time? I missed it.”

Probably “too” busy correcting people on how to use the English language. But yeah he is going to be out for an extended period of time.
It was rather obvious to me. I guess I was right on the “mark” with being concerned.
Alex:
last 14 days: .311 .326 .533 .859
last 7 days: .333 .360 .542 .902
Have to use Chavez. That’s what he’s here for. If he breaks, he breaks.
Well when Alex comes back he won’t have to be rested
Brandon Laird the only 3B listed on the ESY roster.
Wonder if this will cause Joe to bat Ichiro 1 or 2
Andrelton Simmons of the braves has the same injury. He is expected to miss a month. From what i have read, its a 3-6 week injury. But, everyone heals at a different pace.
Its too bad the Braves are in it still…Yanks could of tried to get Chipper for the rest of the season like they did Ichiro!
JF,
Those names sure look good. But they are also fairly expensive. You know that better than anyone in this blog. At the same time, you would have to gut the farm to get them. I am a believer of a homegrown core, this will force us to rely on hired guns for an extended period of time. Same recipe of the 1980′s , not a good way to build a dynasty IMO. No doubt that I could be wrong, but history seems to agree with me in this case
Russell Branyan can play 3B , 2409.2 innings of major league experience.

With swisher out and now arod out… that means joe would have to use Chavez, and ibanez/ jones, as everyday players for a while. That might force the front office’s hand to explore another trade at this point.
Alex looks very sad
Since last week’s plan always yields to this week’s crisis, our new 3rd baseman could be David Phelps.
Swisher should be back by the weekend…
Hanley has two years left on his contract at 16 and 15. Not happening.
Amazing what can happen in a week. This time last week, the Yankees were sailing high. 23 games over .500, pretty healthy, and red hot. Fast forward a week: swisher goes down, Arod out a month or more, and the yankees have lost 5 of 6.
We wouldn’t be trading for hanley regardless of the money. Arod won’t be moved to a full time DH, nor would he accept that role. If anything, the yankees will try to find a decent defensive 3b that wont fall apart having to play multiple days a week.
Who says the Yankees even make a move? Maybe they wait a week or two and then bring up Nunez. Didn’t he come off the DL recently?
As for the lineup, if Ichiro continues to get on base, I would move him up to bat second and have Granderson hit 5th.
We might not make a move at all. Losing arod does hurt, no doubt. However, were not talking about the Arod of old.. so this is not a death blow to the team. As long as he is back by the first week or two of september, then we should be okay. Not that its going to be easy without him, but we will be okay.
1 for their last 6. And Arod is out. Awesome.

Breaking: #Dodgers have acquired Hanley Ramirez and LHP Randy Choate from #Marlins for RHP Eovadli and minor lgr
Good grief. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to sleep again until the trading deadline arrives.
I guess now we play the waiting game.
The waiting game sucks.
Who wants to play Hungry Hungry Hippo?
Sweet deal for the Dodgers.
Obviously this is why Dempster is holding out to be traded to the Dodgers and not the Braves…
romero pena will do nicely,he has the defence the yankees never had this year on the left side of the infield and he has been somewhat effective in the past
while i am at it ,why isn’t ichiro batting second instead of our strikeout artist
Thank you Felix and good riddance Arod. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving fellow. It’s just icing on the cake that it happened at Safeco field in front of all those Arod haters. And believe me, the Yankees do NOT want to get in to a batter hitting brawl with the Mariners. The Yankees have much more to lose than do the Mariners.
