Well that certainly got out of hand quickly. Ivan Nova pitched a perfect first inning and got an immediate five-run lead, then he blew it in a big way. Nova’s worst start of the year was a 11-5 debacle at Yankee Stadium. Nova allowed nine runs on 10 hits through five innings. Seven of those runs came in the second inning, an inning that started with the Yankees leading 5-0. Nova allowed six hits in the inning, four of them with two outs, including a go-ahead grand slam by Chris Davis. The Orioles scored another run off Nova in the third inning and another in the fifth. Nova’s letdown came after the Yankees batted around in a five-run first that included a two-run homer by Robinson Cano.
