Umpires: Angel Campos HP, Jerry Layne 1B, Vic Carapazza 2B, Larry Vanover 3B

Weather: 89 degrees, mostly cloudy

Rebounders: The Yankees have been shut out 33 times since the start of the 2008 season. They are 24-9 in the following game.

Closers: The Yankees have won eight of their last 11 series finales and are 22-12 in finales this season.

Update, 1:12: Five pitches in, and Garcia is already down 1-0. Montero RBI single to right-center.

Update, 1:15: Yankees get lucky. Montero runs through a stop sign and Swisher throws him out at the plate to end the inning.

Update, 1:31: Teixeira hustling as usual (except when he hits a homer off Vicente Padilla). This time, he beats out a grounder to second for an infield hit, 1-1.

Update, 1:49: Garcia’s control came and went in the second, walked two with two outs, but he got out of it.

Update, 1:57: Granderson hits a grounder through first baseman Dustin Ackley’s legs, Stewart scores on the error following his two-out double, 2-1.

Update, 2:20: First and second, no outs for the Yankees in the third, then Iwakuma gets three straight.

Update, 2:25: Very quick 1-2-3 fourth for Garcia.

Update, 2:41: League-leading hit No. 139 for Jeter, RBI single, 3-1 Yankees.

Update, 2:55: Montero gets one back in the fifth, loops an RBI single into right. He has 10 homers and 42 RBI. Boone Logan is warming.

Update, 2:58: After a walk, Garcia escapes, keeping it at 3-2.

Update, 3:05: Ibanez with a shot, homer No. 15. The ball was dropped by a fan in the first row of the bleachers behind the Yankees’ bullpen, 4-2 in the fifth.

Update, 3:10: Garcia gives the Yankees five and now he’s done, allowed two runs, five hits, four walks. Logan is on.

Update, 3:17: Logan has an effective sixth, 1-2-3. Iwakuma is done. Josh Kinney is on.

Update, 3:25: First and second, one out, Oliver Perez will take the ball.

Update, 3:34: In a not-so-shocking twist, Perez gives up a two-run, bases-loaded single to Ibanez, 6-2.

Update, 3:43: Nice job by Logan, another 1-2-3 inning.

Update, 3:47: Ichiro is leading a charmed life. His 11-game hitting streak since joining the Yankees could have come to an end with an easy fly ball to center in the seventh. But Michael Saunders lost it in the sun. It fell for a double. Ichiro has one hit in each game. He just tied Don Slaught for the longest hitting streak to start a Yankees career.

Update, 3:55: David Robertson will work the eighth.

Update, 4:04: Robertson allows just a walk. If the Yankees hang on, Freddy Garcia will become the first Venezuelan pitcher to reach 150 wins in the majors.

Update, 4:15: Soriano coming on for the ninth to get some work.

Update, 4:21: Yankees win, 6-2.
