An early blowout turned into a late nail-biter and finally a comfortable 12-8 Yankees win tonight in Detroit. Their revamped lineup scored seven runs in the first four innings, with new No. 6 hitter Curtis Granderson driving in four of those runs on an RBI single and a three-run homer. The Tigers pulled within 8-7 after a bizarre four-run seventh during which the Tigers got four straight two-out hits off Dave Robertson. One of those hits was a weak bloop and two were infield hits. The Yankees re-built some breathing room with two more runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth. It matched their highest run total since April 21.
