Struggling since the All-Star break, Ivan Nova delivered a bounceback performane today in Toronto. Leaning heavily on a terrific curveball, Nova allowed two runs on five hits, beating the Blue Jays 5-2 and giving the Yankees a chance to sweep in tomorrow’s series finale. Through 6.1 innings, Nova struck out 10, six of them on curveballs. It was his highest strikeout total since before the break. The Yankees gave him a lead with a four-run fourth inning when Jayson Nix had an RBI single and Casey McGehee hit a three-run homer. Derek Jeter added an RBI double in the sixth, his 150th hit of the season. The win was the Yankees fourth straight, their first four-game winning streak since late June.
